  3. surfaced heads ? had a set yesterday had been surfaced with orbital grinder had badly been cleaned and dident seal had only 3000kms on them and leaking badly how was the block on the lower fire ring on #3 and #4 cly ? if anealed to badly will not seal well. is it posibble just low on coolant or air traped in coolant sestem
  4. legacy ? have seen the light in viser short were it moves on pivot breaks wires then they touch check that if has lights in visers commen problem
  5. Never addjust hard stop tells ecu that you have ft on gas when you do not will lose idle contact switch if mess with hard stop idle is addjusted by screw behind idle motor from side of TB
  6. are you shure car hot after fans have cycled rev to 3500-4500 let off and watch for bubbles in overflow tank any ? no next step new radcap mabe thermostat but if car has more than 200000kms on it and heads have not been done then very good chance headgaskets are going. Or pluged rad or seizing waterpump stuck thermostat but most likly headgasket
  7. On the lower front frame rails is two ground wires for fans one ps side one ds side if broken fans will not turn off jsut fixed that one on 98 outback was driving me crazy but broken ground wire

  9. headgasket any bubbles in overflow ? well the last 25 in a row were headgasket
  10. Heres a cheat the senser on trans wears the end down pull senser and remove the aluminum washer reinstall this will move senser slightly closer to trans giving it a new range to turn on have fixed many non working reverse lights this way
  11. Non interferance engine whats not to like no bendy valves and good hp reliably have seen stock 91 ej 2.2 with 550000kms on it never been apart
  12. The plug for the horn rubbs on the body and shorts the horn is + powerd all the time wire shorts blows fuse 95% shure shorted horn check all horn wire harness on front of car have fought this many times.Check were wire harness comes thru body
  13. 4 differnt heads 80-82 extra two bolts on bottom side small valves. The 82-84 nohydro small valves no bolts on bottom 83-88 large valves from chaser no bottom bolts. And the 83-85 ea81 T with injector holes and big valves no bottom bolts theese ones were bad for cracking and geting cooked. I do have some of all of these heads but geting rarer
  14. The light on ecu if i remember right is a o2 moniter light when diagnostic wires are not conected so it does what the o2 does if the light is staying on mabe o2 is shorted out should be of and on slightly flashing
  15. I use the fellpro gaskets work well the turbo ones hold up longer because of the stronger block not better headgasket they are slightly better the block is the real problem. The turbo block has extra webbing to keep cly from vibrating and tearing up gasket
  16. Have been having same type problems when pia bulbs installed and any higher end bulbs dont seem to hold up But the stock plane jane bulbs seem to last forever. Have also noticed that the headlight bulbs nowdays are super cheaply made and most china produced i think the elements they use is substandard and dosent last. Have had 40 or more subarus with burning out headlights problem. Worse on 99 and up cars
  17. Wire harness beside the battery in the fender well about 4 inch from fuse box is my gess broken or coroded wire

  19. Well if nothing else your geting smarter on working on it will be very good at it by the time you find the problem
  20. There is a box caled shift lock realy it likes to break the ground on the board inside and will not let it move is a small black box marked shft lock mouted to the string coulom up high try changing that or resloider the ground
  21. Check ground on coil braket were it is mounted on body the braket must be grounded to give spark and it likes to rust and loose its conection and drops out spark and injector pluse add extra ground wire from coil braket to - termanal on batt and see if that helps very commen problem., Have a ecu from a 89 turbo ea82 mpi wagon is canada model might interchange
