They only seem to leak when driving I dont even comp test them or combution gas test them just do headgaskets if it hasent been done and has more than 155000kms on it they get done if any external leaks vissabble at all. And keep in mind that the cooling sestem go's under vacume when it cools down witch could pull oil into it thru a bad sealing headgasket
  2. Cant use the xmember from the 84 is different but the rack will swap out

Have six blowup late model turbos the screen in the oil feed line plugs and turbo looses oil preshure if the Oil pu tube in the pan dosent kill it first the engines were good the extra stuff they added not so good. If i bought one first step change oil pu in pan 2nd step remove or upgrade sceen to turbo oil feed line then it should be at least reliabble. Seems to be more of a problem for 06-09 turbo cars
  4. did you use the crank and cam gears off old engine ? is two diff types mabee crank senser not pluged in all the way or cam senser. I did a 98 impreza 22 yesterday had broken the idler bolt belt was still in time on cams and hitt all 16 valves all bent took me 4 hours to r@r valves and reinstall engine is not to bad to replace valves. Your old engine could be fixed

Not on subarus they leak combustion into coolant sestem 180 psi vs 14 psi it realy wants out the one i did yesterday had a track from fire ring out the side of headbolt down past the oil pasage and out the side. On theese engines the lower part of headgasket breaks down alowing coolant to get into the oil. The pcv sestem can remove the water but sugars and additives stay in oil riuning oil and pos engine damage. Any external leaks is good indacator of internal leaks is its seeping its leaking headgasket is still my gess
  6. wow here soilid lifters stoped in 84 then all large valves after that mine is very first year ea81 is ealy 81 i think the soilid lfter cam likes the tbi better than the hydro one
  7. I have been useing motor cycle front brake lines for oil feed lines to turbos have dubble banjos on ether end and very flexabble and heat resistant and can use a banjo bolt from subaru front caliper to get fine thread banjo bolt
  8. lots o work make harness stand alone change pump use a cis volkswagon remote pump or subaru turbo one bitt of wire harness mods and make xmember fitt try a 1/2 spacer under the motor mounts might give you enuff a bitt of hamering should give you the rest. Somone on here was selling a 2.2 with harness is way better way to go and makes more power
  9. Is there any external leaks from headgasket seem ? I a'm doing heads on 01 legacy today was leaking coolant on uper ps side of head seam and runing down timing belt cover and down also had failure thru headbolt and thru oil passage thiss engine had coolant in oil and vice versa. Was realy bad had only 144000kms on it. Is there any chance it may have been frozen at all ? always had good strong coolant in it ?
  10. I have 2 good ea81 4 speed deul ranges kicken dont use them anymore and selling a 81 efi ea81 deulrange brat for 2000$ has 4 wheel discks extra rear suspention and 15 inch toyota rims runs very well 165000 kms I have owned it for 14 years and taken very good care of it body is getting tierd.
  11. Funny i only use the lines on the belts but i compare every belt to stock subaru one just to make shure and have had no problems as long as you take the time to make shure its right. Thereis a tooth count to is anuther way to do it
  12. What years is the engine ? 80-84 or 84 and up ? as the internals are different on early ea81 vs late ea81 mine is 81 ea81 came with smaller valves ports and soilid lifter cam it may be why i noticed sutch a power change on mine
  13. was running a #5 jet found was a bitt to mutch so went back to a #3 jet yes has its own ecu that controls it runs off boost and can be addjusted we also have a nos ecu that controls the nos percentages and rampin. Have it ready to go but untested it deafanatly sound better turbo and seems to be way stronger

Have had a bunch of timing belts that the mark was just slightly off on the ds cam the line was just off enuff that you cant tell witch side of mark the line should be on is a PIA had to take old subaru belt and compare marks to set belt right was half a tooth off i belive the line should be on the right side of the mark on cam

I get it when the coolant pasage next to the oil return passages headgasket gets worn down and lets coolant drip into oil pasage is on the lower corner of fire ring thru the headbolt and down in to the oil return pasage. Or block half red oring is leaking but very doubtfull have only seen this twice on very overheated engines. Preshure test coolant sestem My money is on headgasket
  16. Hes on it just a busted up foot at the last race slowed him down hes hurting unit he bailed off the buggy and sprianed his ankle badly and was unable to do anything but sitt with ice on it. Is not forgotton just delayed.
  17. i have never pulled one apart like that always keep it part of aluminum body it may get damaged taking it apart as far as i know they all work the same i will look at the part # on my 81 brat and see what one it uses
  18. is a 90-94 harness ? mine is a 86-87 harness has inline resistor on injector curcit think it runs ritcher the ea81s i did in loyales always seemed under powered somthing to do with 90and up wire harness
  19. Diamiter and length of intake boot from the mass to the engine is it stock ? some tuning can be done by changing size and length of intake plumbing but that may be all you can get from a ea 81 is still a fairly small engine.

Over your heads yikes never ever cut any wires on engine harness can O worms the 99 harnes and intake is not the same the ealy 99 engine uses a idle motor that uses the signal from #1 injector without it no injector pulse on cly 1. I use a single cam engine with that harness but idle motor passage had to be welded up and idle motor had to be pluged in not hooked up. and had to use engine harness from the 99 ej25d and coil pack. It can be made to work but you better know what your doing !
