EA71 Pistons
ivans imports replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
dont use them weak between the ring lands use loyale ea82 pistons have a thin ring on top lands the ea71 has thick uper ring that makes piston crack between the ring lands -

Im so glad that all the ea82 t engine are long dead round here wost subaru engine ever ! cracked heads blown gaskets droped guides stuck lifters broken pistons knocking rods water in the oil split hoses over preshured rads oil leaks ect. I can only think of one of those engines thats still on the road round here in a 88 rx. Put a 2.2 in it and you will be way hapyer

make shure you chage the inline fillter is hiden in the ds fender well and gets overlooked on this car was a remote fillter this will cause more problems than a oil cooler will. Why they did this I dont konw But I never see them changed. The six had problems eating up planetarys I dont think a cooler will help with that but it may.

used up 20 cut off wheels last year cut of every extra bracket ear ect we cut of all the extra ears of engine lightened the uper bodywork. As mutch weight as we added with front end parts i removed off the front body. As for my trashed rack anybody have a 85 gl non power rack ? I'm ordering the replacment pistons today I can buy them as indavidules so orderd up 2 one to fix broken one and one for spare. The engine runs so good still even with only 110 psi on #3 pulls 115 psi oil preshure when started cold no smoke out the pipe. Anyway time is runing down fist race is coming so time to sort out all the bugs

Radiator in the rear, booster pump?
ivans imports replied to Phizinza's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I added a 6 L expantion tank inline with uper rad hose gives me a 14 L coolant system and helps to keep it cool the more coolant the les chance of heat soak. I race in the middle of the day on hotest days of the year still takes 35 min to warm up in 35 degre heat -
at the kammloops race in 2010 i lost the turbo shaft and impeler out the exhaust at 7000rpms and at 100mile in 2011 we gernaded a 2.2 turbo twin cam sent lots of peices into the air and out the pipe we dont want it pointed at anybody. And keeping the guy at the start line safe is priority. Seems to like a longer exhaust runs better than strait out also my o2 works better. One more thing should have been more clear about dont want to add any weight to front rear is ok as car is front heavy have been trying to get a good balance piont so no nosie dives when jumping. Anyway i just have to rebiuld the toyota calipiers and rear brake are done then back to engine. Scott no thats a ea rear end setup tortion bar and coil shock the rear end is original from the 81 2dr 4x4 that buggy was made from we moved it from under the back to under the floor
