  1. Funny have been working on that car for 16 years first saw it at 65000kms and 6 owners ago so glad it dident end up in the crusher thanks matt for saving a good one. Its the one year that came deul range efi good runing gear platform.
  2. Find a 90-94 legacy wire harness works way better the 99 has to many default codes and will need a ton of imputs to work right but the 99 engine runs fine on 90-94 wire harness exept no idle motor and have to weld up idle motor port on top of intake and drive the plug down to lower part of intake
  3. flex socket taped to long extention or stubby 17 mm wrench if you can belive it have never addjusted one in the car cause if it needs to be addjusted it needs to be replaced is just a temparay fix

I have done just about every subaru ej engine mix and match i can imagine the best for me is the 251 turbo and the 257 with twin cam outback heads turbo both these engines are very strong and reliable and very comparable the twin cam takes up more room than single cam. I have made a few 2.5s with 2.2 heads works well.
  5. Have so many 4 eats there are becoming a pain must have 25 of them on the ground now
  6. why not use a vw rear end setup ? or you want 4x4 ?
  7. Funny thing is my hoist is made by fuji heavy industrys is a subaru hoist made in 1959 inexspensive and biult to stay that way and it fitts subarus like a glove
  8. i found that if i loosened the front block bolts was way easyer to remove pump without breaking it
  9. have tried thiss a bitt the 2.0 pistons fitt the bore on ea81 and ea82 and if you press out the wrist pin bushing the ej pin fitts the ea rods have not put a engine together yet but should work i have a 2.0 piston here and a ea piston here to compare the 2.0 turbo pistons in a ea engine whould be good upgrade

  11. on my buggy i have a 02 impreza booster on the 1rst gen body the 4 mount bolts are generic and master bolt up is same the only mod was the length of the rod to pedal and some clearance to body if your going to change it may as well upgrade it to biger one
  12. sorry after 97 they are biger on the full soild roller heads the valves are larger on the impreza 2.2 and the brighton 2.2 think only 98-99 was biger valves. I found thiss out when i treid to change bent valves on 98 legacy and couldent find the right ones caused me greif. The hydrolic roller heads did not have biger valves only soild roler heads
  13. the single port heads have biger valves than deul port heads make shure you use roler cams with roller rockers no mix maching cams and valve trains. I had a set of cams reground cost me 400$ and took 2 weeks was for ej251 but very simalair

Thought about a 2 speed power glide behind a subaru engine why do you not like the 4 eat ? i have done many in svx i upgrade them to outback forward drum and clutches put in 4.44 gears from outback and a high stall torque converter from 2wd 4 eat and upgrade the awd to the black steels and increase the flow to awd for better awd. a rwd svx whould be cool I think whould tear up rear end perty quwick
  15. i whould use the 2.2 short block with the 2.5 heads works very well and no check engine light
  16. i think its bosch sestem check dis module or injectors sticking also look for shody wireing conectors grounds ect and mabee ecu have not realy seen any problems with the older ones just newer ones

I surface heads every day and i get mirior surfaces have never seen one that bad yuck it cost me 60 $ each for cutter tips that are for aluminum alloy and there is 8 tips i also only cut half a thow at a time. and i will not cut any cast or deisel heads as they will dull my bitts is a very long learning curve to do heads. The 2.5d surface give me the most trubble i think the alloy was not very tight of molucles in the casting it likes to smear instead of cut so have to take very small passes and i put head in freezer to tighten up the molucules in the aluminum for better results
  18. drill it and tap it out and use a exhaust stud from 300 zx turbo have grade 12 forged studs 8/125 i use those studs to fix everything wont break that one cost 1.50 $ and nissan dealer
  19. Have been beating up the 420 codes by runing perium feul seems to help cleanout the catts
  20. I work on just subarus but have put in 15 years of work on everything under the sun jeeps hang with subarus hand in hand. I had been thru the try the alarm module try the ig module try the power control mod just to find bad ecu in the end. I bet it took me longer to find it the first time by the 5th one fixed in ten munites. The renix sestem you refer to i dont know what you mean ?
  21. the 99- up trans i a'm replacing forward clutch packs and high clutch pack and have seen two blown planetarys and some blown front diffs. If just clutches is not to hard to change as long as drums are ok if planetarys is done puts to mutch meatal thru trans and cant be cleaned out
  22. have seen thiss one at least 5 times change the ecu is toast commen jeep problem the injector drivers go out
  23. On the 99 and up i start it cold strait into drive right away and time how long it takes to go into gear if take time forward clutch pack is on way out. Also drive it and see if it has drawn out shifts or rpm spikes when shifting thiss indacates how good the clutches are. On those trans the first shifts are the most important as trans can compansate after its been shifted a few times
