  1. I run my own shop out of my house and use alot of subaru specific tools and homade tools installed my own hoist head planer and engine machine shop. What is the piont behind the survey ? to see how people get by fixing there own cars ?
  2. need 4 coils the single bolt ones two left two right is a 94 legacy gt twin turbo staged turbo setup car looks like are 98 legacy gt
  3. thoose cars had a buch of return to tank water seporators and tees i whould remove all that stuff make shure one line to carb one small line back to tank get all that extra junk outathere. On the last ea81 with ea82 flywheel i drilled a hole in bell to find tdc mark then could set timing was done with engine on ground and both flywheels back to back you could probly gess as i think tdc mark should be top center of bell or same as ea82. Feedback carb is real pos metering jet are you kiding me ! weber better way but better be good at tuning!
  4. i think the svx coils whould work best but not cheap he is trying to get the right ones from japan right now will see if they have any luck
  5. I had a maf on the buggy that water got into and made it run very ritch try anouthor maf
  6. if any water gets in feul can make the injectors stick open do they drip feul when off ? if so may be damaged
  7. Dug the buggy out and started on thiss years setup They had flaged it at last race needs to have a recognzieabble body on it so have been puting a cutdown outback frontend on it grill headlight covers hood. Its starting to come along motor still runs strong For having 2 forged pistons and two stock pistons but is time for next motor. Starting with 2.51 block sti forged pistons longer rods ported and polished heads chadbolt cams. And a few tricks like water meth and nos by the end of last year the tune was right on the money. It came in third over all in B class agianst 7 trucks all 950 hp + still need more hp and lighter wheight.
  8. well turns out the brat uses the electric choke curcit to power the alt my doing not subarus to power the mitsubishi alt the buggy runs a 2001 h6 alt is self enegiseing it charges with no wires hooked up has been thiss way for 4 years i does charge high about 15 volts but is race car so dont mind. I gess when nothing is stock is not the same as everyone eles car
  9. I can tell you guys that the park is strong the trans in my buggy works park hard and holds in any situation on any angle it has no ebrake so relys on park alot and has been put into park while stil moving alot been towed in park ect. I cant say as ive ever head of a broken park pin in subaru ever
  10. mine has a charge gauge no light i'm shure the last harness i cut down had a splice in the white and red wire that trigers the alt feild wire mabee was added but was taped up in the back of dash harness was on a 89 chaser with full gauge pakage. we had cut entire harness down to drop wheight. I will pull the bulb on my 81 brat and see if still charges or my 84 wagon with 2.5. Mind you non have stock alt. I use a mitsubishi delta wound alt is 100 amps and very durabble
  11. tranny 1500$ engine 3500$ diff 650 $ having your husband say he was wrong pricless glad you got it sorted
  12. is it posibble they removed the pin and pawl and made it electronicly lock gears or hold a clutch the latest trans ive had apart is 03 and still same old park pawl and pin. Have not seen any that new yet even for test drive i could see a cvt trany acting diferent
  13. Jdm bang head on wall man theese cars check all the wheel sensers for contanuity start there as they are most likly to break
  14. Loss of ig power supply check fuse box under hood conections black fuseabble link and ig fuses and links + battery power supply very mutch doubt ecu problem Check voltage at brown realy power supply see if it drops out when check engine light gos out
  15. Thiss car should have a owners manual to walk you thru all of thiss will tell what plug is for what what filler is for each fliud and what fliuds it takes get him to read it will be a whole section on service if you dont have a owners manual buy one is good investment. Oh do it yourself husbands keep me very bussy !
  16. the jdm turbo i worked on other day pulled 17 in/hg vacume was 2.0 turbo a 2.51 na pulls 22 in/hg at idle think its the turbo cams that do it and low comp ratio
  17. Mabee cause the problem is realted to somthing that repalcement ecu did not have eg standard stuff netral position clutch imput cruise ecu airbag ecu idle motor stuff like that thats different between std and auto. I have had cars run better or different with other ecu but could be in default or in limp mode will run good but cant learn or addjust. I whould put in origanal ecu and start diagnosing 1 thing at time. Anuther good way is find exact outback as yours and put your ecu in it and see how it runs do not put there ecu in your car as if there is problem with your car can damage there ecu. I had to do thiss to diagnose the last bad ecu i had and to test it after repair. remember the ecu is very smart and can go around sensers if it dosent see what it wants
  18. My justy gets about 28 mpg with the turbo and the xt6 injectors and 14 inch wheels and must burn premium but it only cost 30 $ to fill the bugger
  19. I blame plugs had a 2.0 give me hell becuse had to high of ohom plugs and was jumping spark down the side of plugs a low ohom plug with tight gap any misfires will make ecu pull back timing and boost try a ngk vpower bkr6e-11 with a 0.55 0.60 gap and carfull not to break coils
  20. six or more front o2s in last few months the wide band one seems to be more problematic the six plug one some have 4 depends on trany. Thinking winter kills them
  21. I have repaired two 00-02 outback ecus one they pinched the wires in bell on motor swap other the o2 wires melted on exhaust both had bunt traces from the main driver chip to the board i had to use one single strand of wire sodeired axross the burnt trace but was able to do it. Used a big magnafying glass and a shaved down soilder pen was very difacult but doable. Anyway if you have a auto ecu it will be looking for its auto trans controler ecu they share alot of comunacation and one can not work without the other. I ? whearther it was a ecu problem or not have never seen one fail without a reason
  22. I recomend to fill it 1/2 L over full seems to help the rear diff hold up i think it gets starved for oil being so high up in back of trans i put 4.2 L in all of them and a lighter synthetic gear oil works best to heavy and will shift slow. Have had a few come in with atf in trans dident hurt anything and boy do they shift good.but not recomended
