have run into a problem with the beck andly repalcement wheel berrings on 90-02 front berrings the new beck arndly berring is 1.5 mm longer than the stock one and will not allow the snap ring to fitt back in. I thought it was just a packaging mixup is not have had 3 come in now just simpaly the wrong berring. So make shure the berring you are installing is eaxtly the same length and the one that came out. Have had no problems with the skf berrings or subaru origanals But beck arndly beware of wrong parts.

HELP No fuel to the carburetor
ivans imports replied to scooter0000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
try bolwing compresed air back thru the line gas cap off and rag over hole should clear the line had thiss problem with my 79 once you get feul moving is a good idea to run it thru into a can to clear the lines and tank before hooking up carb put a clear fillter in line so you can see whats in the tank -
the wrx heads are a pain to addjust the valves cam has to be pulled and buckets replaced i did it by removing the heads and grinding the tip of the valve till i got the right clearance took me 12 hours to addjust the valves on all four holes and both heads had to be removed but spent 0$ on buckets and was bang on. and i had the head on the bench way easyer to work with. whould realy like to see the comp test #ers

On the race engine i can tell just by the blowby out the oil filler if piston is broken and the comp changed from 155-100 still ran ok dident miss but blowby out the oil filler. All the cly should be within 10 psi of each other

Pulling my EA71, mods?
ivans imports replied to maestro's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
have thought about making a tbi addaptor plate but is just to different one is square one is rectangle the whole intake is the best idea the tbi on my ea81 works so good sat for 6 months hit the key without touching the gas and runing. I do think the ea71 will make more power with a ea82 carb. The ea71 with the ea82 carb makes almost the same power as the ea81 with tbi. I think that ea71 needed way more feul than stock. -
A ring land is very apparent when you look at the oil filler when reved will push smoke out and will miss at low rpms and clean up at higher rpms. a comp test will tell you while you have the plugs out two things make shure they are the right length is to different thread lengths and find some low resistance plugs ie ngk v power somtimes i see problems with platnums and iridiums being to high of resistance and the spark jumps down the side instead of down the middle.

i took my 84 and drilled out the drain plug and installed a bajo bolt and line from side of 4eat gave me a 3/8 feul line right to pump inlet thiss fixed all my feul problems the line in the tank go's uphill to top of tank and back down to bottom ok for crabed car bad for ej efi car then i was able to use the stock output line as a return line. I am runing a 2.5 turbo off thiss setup no problem was easy to do other than had to buy the tap to cut threads

Beck arnley have had good luck with there parts. Mabee you can force it to miss wash the motor while its runing see if it misses if it misses high tention curcit it helps to narrow it down. Do you have a stocih gauge ? if not mabee put one in so you can watch the air feul ratios mabee is going lean and missfireing. On the race buggy had to put in 550 injectors before i got it to stop running lean. could also be a ring land broken have seen two wrxs 2.0s do thiss a comp test will tell you check for low hole the bad one i saw was 180 180 175 -85 the piston was broken between the comp rings. Also had fair amount of blowby out the oil cap when reved. In one race season i broke 4 pistons thiss way and is commen problem with wrx

Badly rusted timing bolts i have snapon reverse grabers that are the size but have spiral teeth that grab harder the father on it gos's think craftsman sells them to a 3/8 socket works to. I perfer to pull motor to but is not always the case on clutch only jobs is faster cause i dont have to run car for half hour to test fans and no coolant mess or waiting for it to drain i have a plug for tail shaft no no fluid draining of anykind thiss saves time. But if motor has any leaks it comes out

Dual Range 5 speed crossmember bushings!
ivans imports replied to Dj Syco's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i probly have some of those is two rubbers with a washer with a sleeve on each side -
No worrys remember is all i do every day is subaru engines and tranys thiss last week i did 2 5 speeds one bad trany and one clutch i also have a hoist and trany jack and a'm setup for just subaru stuff. exactly the right tools and procedures i use all snapon cordless guns and know every bolt in what order. Keep in mind thiss is all i do every day all day And i put lots of time into job prep so its gos exactly as planed. A novice with regular tools 4 hrs should be more realistic. I also can look at any subaru bolt and tell you its home on the car.

Anyone gut their cat?
ivans imports replied to Radio Flyer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it will take power away as the car is tuned to run a catt have seen very little proof that removing the catt helps power in anyway unless its pluged -
totaly piston slap its fine have had lots thiss bad i fix thiss all the time i whould remove #2 #4 pistons and knurll them and reinstall and noise will be gone the late model 2.2 were bad for thiss as the pistons are very short and the oil ring supply holes get pluged and wears the top side of piston badly. I fix thiss alot when i do 2.5 headgaskets surface the heads and knurll #2#4 some engines sound realy bad. If it was a rod it whould be shaking and not smooth when reved and it whould get louder when warm have you put a oil preshure gauge on it ? no less than 10 psi hot at idle i'.m shure its fine
