  1. ahh the trick is to strech the cam tower relif valve springs to up the preshure ticking ea82 unexeptabble will not have it no ticking ea82s here
  2. one more thing the drl gets hot so might have overheated check it for heat damage
  3. the headlights are powerd by realys the realys are turned on by the switch i still think its a power feed to realy problem i see lots that overpower the headlight realy fuse and will not turn on the realy or a shorted drl module you should be able to jump the conector at realy and turn the lights on to test curcit
  4. As captain hook said STOP THE TICKING have fixed so many ticking ea82s it makes me sick to think about it. I hate that sound it means have to tear apart a greasey ea82 oil pump to fix its trashed oil pump shaft seal
  5. my 79 brat dosent leak a drop thank you ultra grey! gule every part exept the valve covers i grease those so the gasket dosent stick and keeps oil in the other trick is dich the pan gasket and use ultra grey the gaskets dont seal well. A bitt of ultra grey around the outside of the crank seals help to and glue the dipstick in. Most ea71 leaks i see are from the oil pump oil pan and dipstick somtimes from the bell to engine seam. A'm working on the tbi for ea71 the intake is a bitt to wide so has to be cut down and rewelded. It works on my 81 ea81 cause its the same width when the intake is done the rest is easy. The ea82 mpi will not work is a deul port intake
  6. did you change the oil pump shaft seal ? the brown one thiss is the one that makes them tick. Preshure erelavent relief preshure erelavent air geting sucked in thru the shaft seal very relavent foamy oil will not let lifters pump up
  7. oh and i have a head planer and surface lotts of heads as a rule never more than 2 thow or geomitry gets messed up
  8. i took my ea71 and used a ea82 carb on it had to modify the carb bolt pattern and hog out the hole a bitt but what a difference probly picked up 25% a'm working on a tbi ea71 soon but intake is giving me trubble
  9. i did but got lost when whent to new format will put some on here is a 79 tan brat is 100 % compleate right down to the exact subaru hardwear interior and running gear has about 5000kms on new engine new clutch calipirs rotors all berrings bushings strut mounts brake lines all arms and struts painted with new bushings. glass is good seats in the back. I sent in a colector plate app it got denyed because the paint had chips and the ps door trim is missing thats it. I have 3 kidds now and is just not practical need to buy a minivan and 3 brats is to many the truck not the kidds. I probly have 100 hrs into thiss restoration and was very anal about it being exactly right
  10. you must look at the bolt pattern there is a large on and a small one mine used the small one so had to be a 97 or newer pump had to transfer the svx tank and use the impreza oring and slightly bend the line to accomadate the missing preshure valve switch. the new rack i put in whouldent stop airateing the fluid was the relif valve in the pump was worn on a angle and letting fluid bypass have done 3 with the impreza pump now works good and i have a pile of them good svx pump never seen one
  11. 79 brat 90% restored compleate just needs paint to get colector plates 0 rust very clean 5000$
  12. I perfer the 4eat i had a 3500 high stall built for it used 4.44 gears and upgraded the forward clutch pack and drum thiss trany can handle power and it shifts faster than you can and reverse is incredibly strong i destoyed many 5 speeds before i whent to auto have ran the same trans with 3.0 turbo 2.2 twinn cam turbo 2.5 turbo very mutch abused and holds up very well. just a thought i know auto is the last option but it holds the power and faily cheap to biuld mine cost under a 100 to biuld trans the tourque converter was 900$ but would not be nessacary a stock one whould work
  13. check all bulbs some lights have more than one headlight bulb had a svx that had two burnt headlight bulbs but still had high and low headlights but no drl it used 6 headlight bulbs on for low one for high and one for drl on each side
  14. on the old rx we pull the e brake lock the front and do rwd burnouts in one spot all day with center diff unlocked
  15. I did heads on a 04 impreza 2 days ago had a 420 code when i looked at the #2#4 pistons the uper skirt was scratched very bad and piston was loose had fairly bad piston slap when started cold. I knurlled #2#4 pistons and cleaned the oil ring oil feed holes out all were pluged. Anyway when the pistons get worn like thiss it burns some oil and plugs the catts thiss car ran good no piston slap and stoped burning oil after and the 420 code whent away. When you start it cold is there any piston slap ? and any puffs of oil on start up ?
  16. in the under hood fuse box is two fuses marked left / right headlight check those first also will see realys left / right headlight should click when headlights are turned on
  17. holy crap anuther ivan on here i like to use a small bit of ultra grey on the outside of seals and orings to keep them in place and sealed on the outside
  18. the rx turbo trans runs primary rwd when diff locked runs 4x4 but unlocked is mostly rwd
  19. have fixed a bunch in a row putt a tank or two of premeum feul in it and drive it hard make shure has no exhuast leaks leave factory catts if at all posibble the last one took a month of runing premium gas to turn the light off. Have heads been done ? i find that if gaskets were bad the burnt coolant plugs up catt takes a while running good to clean them out. Spend your money on good gas first before expensive catts. 420 is not a 02 code 02 will not fix thiss problem have had luck taking catts off and preshure washing them out and reinstall.
  20. if its just stuck 4rth gear clutch in crank on the starter with the brakes on should bust loose or drag it in a high gear with somthing or take him apart
  21. had on my 79 brat the pilot berring is a older design and was very tricky to install right mine had been damaged and the berring was not turning so was draging the trany shafts when in neutral had to pull clutch and reinstall pilot berring made no noise just problem geting into gear
  22. we take the 2wd legacy trans case and install the push button loyale guts into it gives us a legacy ej push button five speed have done 3 or four now is hard to find a 2wd ej case but then you do not need addaptor and can run the big clutch. We have put ej2.5 turbos up to thiss trans and no problems yet have not tryed to use a diff lock rear section but may work key is the 2wd ej case
  23. would have to use a drilled flywheel or move the starter have played with thiss is a pain a'm useing a ea82 clutch with my 2.5 turbo and it barly holds up dosent slip but shure can smoke it if your timing is off at all should hold up for a while
