some make noise but most dont its a berring when it fails it fails thiss year i caught 4 in time were the berring was failed but not seized sounded like a rod knock. But most lock up and shear the bolt and bang ! Thiss outback had less than 50000kms on subaru rebuild xx 0.25 block. Dealer put the old idler back on and ruined the new engine. Have had five of theese xx 0.25 blocks all same deal new engine old idler bent valves. So i asked the dealer why reuse a old ?able part there answer { only needs to make it past waranty } I can tell you every one of my ej motors have a new coged idler. And will not install a ej motor without a new one used motor or new motor even if new idler i change it anyway

i stand a 6x6 short block against the back side and hit the block with sledge thiss works happens to me dayly stuck salty rims its more of a problem geting a proper touque on them because titens up on center instead of wheel nuts. In one year have had over 40 subarus with loose wheels and 5 or more missing 3 or more wheel nuts make shure you antiseize the center of rim any check your toruque many times in a pattern.

was doing thiss reseal on a ej 22 yesterday x2 cam seals x2 camseal plug orings x1 valve cover set x1 updated pcv plate x1 piston pin oring x1 rear main seal x1 front crank seal x1 oil filler oring and that should do it the single most important one is the cam plug orings as they crack and leak badly

Oh i know thiss one to well the torington bering on the low reverse clutch pack drum has piled up alows the whole internal asembly to shuttle back and foruth and has probly wiped the planetarys out. Or the forward clutch pack has smoked out did it hesatate when going from drive to reverse or from reverse to drive any hesatation in transition indacates to mutch end play in trans internal asembly .

the reason i use the rx one is that the axle stubs bolt in on the turbo legacy ones the axle stub clips in and have a bad habit of poping out and trashing splines have seen two get wreaked thiss way -
We have no air care of any kind here at all there is on the coast but not in the interior. I realy duobt i could even find a shop with a working exhaust gas analizer. It whould show a lean condition if you did put one on it. when i pull the plugs on the ?able cars they are white and way to clean 0 deposits. My buggy did thiss untill i put in the 550 injectors. And sudenly it had coulor to the plugs nice tan deposits and came into stioch [sorry that one i cant spell] . Anyway the injectors are just to small to feed sutch a big piston engine. thiss is also why the 2.2 dosent set the 420 code has the same size injectors but smaller pistons. I converted my top feed rails to side feed rails to get more feul to engine. whould not work on air asist injectors but worked good on the 251. One other thing is very overlooked is the comprestion of the engine if low on any holes will not make as mutch vacume witch will not pull hard enuff on map or mas and cerate lean conditions.

deul range all the way have put alot of power through the 4x4 gears and blown only one set of tranfer gears ever and they are easy to change even a push button five speed whould do same transfer gears [no awd trans ]

i cut down the harness added a mass air flow and high preshure pump and a return line taped into the gauge sender as brat had no return line and had to modify the distributor gear to fitt ea81 and move the coolant hoses on front of manifoild by the thermosat to clear the disstributor anyway thiss works very good on a ea81 i love it i put some pics on my tbi brat thread check it out -
wow find anything on here no thiners for me but i take them off and wash them out with a low preshure preshure washer works well butt the subaru ones dont clog up because they run so lean catts stay clean and barly ever even start working on subarus no extra feul means no heat in catt has to get feul to get hot. I think buddys fix is probly cleaning the injectors instead of catt and thats why he gets results my money is on lean problem my test forester changed the feul fillter agian and air fillter agian light stayed off for 2 days longer but still came back on.

take your trans and go through it takes me 25 min to pull it apart and diagnose it chances are you may have damaged the stator or not got the toruqe converter in all the way theese trans only fail in 3 ways broken planetary or broken band or the torington on the low reverse stator piles up and somtimes the forward clutch pack i rebiuld many of theese trans is not to hard takes me about 2 hours in total on bench. the pump is part of the cast member in center of trans and can be changed the last broken one the shaft thats atached to the cast member was cracked on the end were tq gos
