Theese engines are getting kms putt on them the first knurlled piston engine has over 100000kms on it since and no piston slap and there are 30 + more out there that are racking up kms and no problems to report. The only downside is takes a long time to breakin about 3000kms customers have noticed 25-28 mpg after 3000kms or more jumps up to 30-34 mpg takes abitt to losen up but still no slap on any of them or any ishues

The origanal ea81 looks like the motor you are talking about has been decked and has new pistons not shure if they are 1600 ones or not i put one wrx turbo piston in to see how it fit seems to be ok and the hight is good and the clearance is good tiny bitt loose but no worse than a ej 2.2 the wrx piston is lighter and a less resitance type piston had to press out the wristpin bushing to get pin to fitt but do'se fitt. Anyway thiss engine needs overhall but will reuse the new pistons cause they are still very good will put some 84-87 heads and a ea 82 carb on it should bump it up just a bitt and still be reliabble. We also wheighed the two engines there is a 100 lbs differance between them ej is just to heavy back to the ea 81

I had a crashed one that i took motor out of had 385000kms on origanal engine then i put turbo on it and raced it for two years the car was the best subaru iv'e seen to date big brakes posi sunroof leather nice sterio biger sway bars haveyer struts and theres no headgasket problems and no timing belt i did tear into the engine to change piston omg 167 timing cover bolts and a crazy timing chain setup this moter is very reliabble and low matanace have had to do two tranys on theese cars though like the svx it makes very good tourque and can damage the trans one had striped planatery other had blown front diff both were easaly rebiult. The ll bean is a usa model only i hear but not shure I have been fixing subarus for 16 years and i whant thiss car best one yet !!!

hes 5ft 2 and deaf so at least he whont loose his hearing riding back there. I asked ICBC about it they dident know so asked the RCMP they sent me to there head trafic cop he dident know so he whent to subaru dealer and looked at pictrures of brat. He said that as long as has a DOT aproved roll bar and factory seats and seatbelts { seats must face backwards ] [and must have roll bar ] shouldent be ilegal. He could not give us a defanate yes or no he said he will call the head of the comertial trafic superviser and ask. I got his interest so hes going to look into it more he actualy remembers the brats from back in the day

ea82 radius rod/lift kit questions
ivans imports replied to T'subaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Best volkswagon part ever 2.2 subaru enginge !!! -
mine has the seats with the roll bar looks the same as the last one but the 12 year olds head sticks up about 4 inch above it. I make him wear a helmet but still looks dangerus i know here in BC you are not alowwed any pasengers in rear of trucks and no seatbelt is a fine. The brat seems to be a gray area as it was the only pu that came with seats in back. The only thing thats even close is a tracker convertable with rear seats and i whould deafanatly feel safer in the brat than a tracker rear seat. I will ask the local police what they think as the laws are decided by them.

have been experimenting with sufrfacing a whole short block asembeled whould be neat trick it fitts in my surfacer and could be done without tearing down shortblock because my surfacer comes up from bottom whould not get materail in block and whould get a perfect surface for headgaskets to seal. Evry block half i have surfaced had at least 2+ thow warp worst on #4 @#2 i surface every one and new rod and mains if over 150000 kms on it [ or has ever got hot ]

Here's a question for you older brat guys how leagal do you think it is to let kids ride in back seats ? I have been leting my kidds ride in back but worys me that could get pulled over and fined. The laws here are very strict and whuold not whant to be stuck on side of road with kidds. I took the old brat to car show on weekend and it made for a good topic half the people said it was ileagal other half said it was ok but none actualy knew i'm the subaru athority around here and i dont know I will ask are local rcmp and see what they think. Any of you brat drivers have any ideas ?
