  1. great! im quite relieved haha. thanks for the help. will try to figure out how to post some pics when im done.
  2. Got my rear part of my 2" lift on no problem on my 87 Gl-10. I was looking at the front and was wondering what is the easiest/safest way to get the spacers on the strut tops. Do I need a spring compressor? Or if i just unbolt the three bolts at the top will the hold strut tower be able to drop down enough for me to install the spacer? or haha should i just remove the whole strut. Really I just wanted to make sure i didnt lose my hand with some crazy spring accident while trying to put this lift on. Thanks! Lee
  3. got the d/r in there. everything under the hood assembled. she turned over, the gears shift, the axles turn, and the digi dash works....stlll not sure about the speedo yet. waitin for some new rear axles (since my others were stuck in my old rear diff) but i should have it rolling by monday. got the 6 lug hubs i drilled on the front. and my BOSS 2" lift on the back. hopefully ill get the front of the lift on tomorrow....might have to call Bill to get some pointers on the easiest way to get the strut tops on. besides that everything is coming again nicely. thanks so much again for the help with the wiring! lee
  4. ok so swap the harness from the old trans onto the d/r. i saw that this looked like it would work, but i wasnt sure since it is a different trans all together. i really do appreciate the input! was sweating having to scratch the digi dash. i just love it too much haha. lee
  5. just realized how confusing my last post was. so basically the electrical connectors from the dual range trans do not match up to the electrical connectors on my car. what to do is my question. lee
  6. hey man, was wonderin since you did the d/r swap in ur gl-10...what did you do with the electrical connections from the trans. to the car. there are two connectors but they dont match up? let me know what you did if you dont mind.

    thanks,

  7. So I have the d/r in my GL-10, but i just noticed that my GL-10 (push button) has only a 4 pin white connector and a black connector. my d/r has a 6 pin white connector. this car is equipped with the digi dash. would love to keep it. i did notice there was a way to switch the connectors on the transmissions themselves which would make it match up, but their are less wires on the push button harness than the d/r. please tell me what the hell i should do. thanks, lee

  9. so luckily there is a subaru shop right infront of the machnine shop i went to. got a new stub on there, and no damn axle cup. YES!! now i can move forward.
  10. so i take my rear differential to a machine shop in town. ask if he can get the axle cup out, he says he can sure try. today i get a call that he got it off, but he broke the effing stud doing it! i should have just removed it myself i guess. hindsight is 20/20. now im trying to find a replacement stud. probably better off just jacking a differential of something else. any ways if any one has a rear diff for a dual range and want to trade something i have two 87 wagons for parts!! lee
  11. well im trying to do a dual range swap from an 87 GL, but the rear diff from the the donor car had axles that were shot. i have the rear diff out of the car. and now only a cup attached to it. figure i've come this far might as well take the damn stub off. i thought about taking it to a machine shop and seeing if they had something to separate the cup from the diff. i just dont want to heat it until i have the cup off. then i feel like i could bang on it with a drift punch or what ever.
  12. one of my axles is currently stuck in the rear diff. if i do happen to remove the bolt from the stub, will that alter any of o rings or seals in the rear diff? just a little weary of removing stuff from the diff. looks like it may be my only option tho. thanks, lee
  13. So i finally got the tranny and differential out of the parts car to clean and get ready for the swap. I want to get new axles for the front, and would like to get some from a 3AT since they are apparently beefier. all of the aftermarket axle that are 23 spline, seems to be well not beefier just replacements for even an n/a MT. can i only get beefier axles that are remanumactured? if so who should i go with? also, one of the damn rear axles is stuck in the rear diff. that i need. tried hooking a pry bar around it and whacking that with a bfh, no budge. gonna hit it with pb blasters for the next couple of days to try to separate it before i start tearing the thing apart to get to the stud. let me know if any of you have any tricks for getting one of these out. im afraid to heat it cause i dont want to damage the seals.
  14. Yeah I knew about the differential change, but I do appreciate the input. All hoses/lines look like they are in great shape as well as the radiator (There is another one in the back of one of the parts cars that looks brand new), and her temp is always on the cool side. Belts look fresh also. I try not to dog her out too much, but I do enjoy watching that little turbo light flash up and swirl around every so often Been working all the little quirks out. Lookin to put in a stereo but I MUST keep the trip computer intact (and hopefully vertical). Probably gonna have a pro do it just so it looks freshy fresh. I did notice she has a tear at the DOJ, but not stressing it since I plan on swapping trannys this weekend, and those axels look fine. Also I have been researching wheel options, would really like some 14s on there with some all terrains for a bit more ground clearance. still have to upload pics. cheers, Lee
  15. I just bought a 3 lot of Roos!! ONE 1986 GL-10 TURBO WAGON /PUSHBUTTON is 160K ON 1987 GL-10 TURBO WAGON /PUSHBUTTON (PARTS CAR NO MOTOR) 1987 GL WAGON DUAL RANGE FWD W/ MOTOR OUT 160K tons of parts with these guys. Gonna swap that dual range tranny out of the '87 and put it in the '86 turbo hopefully this week or next weekend. The fun has begun. (Will post pics of the lot real soon.) Lee

hey bchbum i noticed your hatch isnt lifted. i know sometimes those ruts can b deep. you had no clearance issues? what kind of tires do you have on that thing? i have a 86 gl-10 turbo wagon with adjustable struts, and i really dont want to lift it. trying to get as much clearance with as little trimming. lee
  19. do the sjr lifts account for the camber fairly well?
  20. i realized my last reply was a little vague, by both axels i meant up front and in the back? i imagine it would make sense to put the rear axels from the car im getting the tranny and differential from on my car. just wasnt sure if the rear axels changed in 87 like front ones. thanks, lee

Yeah I saw this a couple of weeks ago, I guess it was bound to happen. I think its funny they make you watch a video. I'll spend the cash, in hopes that others wont and there will be more fish and surf for me.
  22. will a 2" sjr lift require me to lengthen the steering shaft in my 1986 gl-10?
  23. ok so i need to swap both axels? this sounds daunting but i checked it out and saw that it looked pretty simple as well. maybe a weekend project? so basically i should get the real differential from the same car im getting the dual range? thanks so much for the info. lee
  24. I am curious how hard/easy it would be to put a 5 spd dual/range from an 87 gl wagon in my 86 gl-10 trubo with 5 speed s/r. I havent seen many posts in my search of the board so it seems like it might just be a plug and play type deal. thanks!
