  1. I know the feeling. They brew it 24/7 and I only have so much time.
  2. I installed a weber with a new 5psi max inline fuel pump, and a holley low psi adjustable regulator from speedway. I have the psi's dialed way down. All I am running is to the carb is vac advance. Vacuum retard I left open to atmosphere, and plugged everything else except the valve cover breathers. They are open as well, with the tubes on so no oil gets blown out. It will now burn rubber. Not that I beat on it, but it runs great. I don't know about the charcoal can as I am still tracking down a fuel tank. I am currently running off of a 2.5 gallon can in the bed. Rock and roll
  3. Thanks rugby. I love the jackman look on the subaru. I'll have to try and hunt down a set.
  4. I'm aware of the peugeot option, and thanks for the info, but they are ugly as ***************. I can't say that I like the peugeot wheels very much. As I initially asked, I wanted to know if anyone know if the 14 inch jackmans fit gen 1.
  5. Does anyone know if the 13 and 14 inch jackman wheels have the same bolt pattern? I've got a stock set of 13's for my brat but would love to have the tire options of a 14 inch rim.
  6. They may not have updated the styling in other markets. Or the dude is wrong.....
  7. As far as I know, you can't mate an ea81 or 2 to the gen 1 top starter bellhousing, unless you have the late ea71 fat case. I don't think the early 4spd trans will take the later bell housing either......someone who has done it might chime in. This is just what I have read. I think the swap is worth it due to parts availability, but with a new baby I didn't really have 10 freakin years to mess with it. I hope it works out for you. and btw...the ea71 in my 78 brat with a straight pipe and weber will burn rubber.
  8. Ditto. I was stumped for a month as to why my brat ran like crap until I finally realized that I had wired the dizzy 1432 like a VW. Too many late nights. And beers.
  9. As another option I used car-parts.com and found a yard near me that had 3 ea71's on the shelf. I paid $500 for that and it came with a 90 day warranty. There were some other cheaper ones but they were too far away. You might get lucky. I was going to rebuild mine but ea71 parts proved difficult to source, especially the passenger side head(mine was cracked). I might go buy a second one just because.....
  10. My redline kit runs great out of the box. I did regulate the fuel down to about 1.5lbs, but other than that..........it'll burn rubber.
  11. If you find an all terrain r13, let me know. I will have to buy tires soon, and really can't find many options in a 13
  12. Putting the weber on is pretty straight forward. I ordered a kit on ebay for around $330 that came with everything for it. Then you just have to remove/plug all the emissions parts.
  13. I love my weber. With what little exhaust is left on my brat it breaths really well. It'll get up an go.
  14. On a lot of cars if the tumbler comes out you can usually turn whats behind the tumbler with a tool of some sort. Usually a screw driver
  15. I hear you. I bashed my brake reservoir when I did my motor mounts. And mine were difficult to land as well. Thanks for the detailed post.
  16. If it was legal at the time of production, it has to be legal...at least for adults anyway. I bet you could get a ticket for violating local child restraint laws somehow. I had no seatbelts in my 55 fairlane, and that was legal because it was that way from the factory and legal at the time of production.
  17. 1040894 is what rock auto has. Should fit 78-81 brats. I haven't installed mine yet. But that's the part I ordered.
  18. Rock auto has them. I just ordered all three and they were FHI mounts. Sweet.
  19. check your ignition components. I had a spark plug arcing right out of the box last week.....was causing smoking and running like crap on my new motor install. Really had me worried for a minute.
  20. Must be because the stock hitachi one fits, at least it did on my gen 1 brat. Rock auto has them I believe.
  21. isn't that carb double tapped for the fuel inlet? I believe it can be swapped to the back side. My weber came with a mispackaged adapter plate, but they did overnight a new one. And the kit number on the box was wrong as well, although redline states that the kit I got is a universal.....might be bs, but the car runs.
  22. The best way to prevent rope from fraying is to burn it apart with a torch instead of cutting it. That's how it's done in the construction trades. Never frays.
  23. ok, so it's my 78 brat and here's the list; drove 500 miles in a 77 chevy to tow your rump roast home. removed failing ea71 tried to rebuild said ea71...good luck finding some of the parts. sourced "new" ea71 from junk yard(400 miles)...apparently on the shelf for a long time as the oil filter claims it will fit a starlet. soaked new engine cylinders with atf new clutch new pressure plate installed engine new front calipers replaced cooling fan that was powered by spliced jumper cables that you had to hook up to the battery to go for a drive with a new fan unit installed new fan control relay. new master cylinder new weber 32/36 dgev new battery new fuel pump new holley fuel pressure regulator new motor mounts new trans mount new accelorator cable por-15 everywhere bedliner I'm about $2000 into this car and have driven it about 100 miles. Forget about the hours invested. And I still don't have a fuel tank. Currently running out of a 2gal can in the bed. Hopefully, hopefully, this car will serve well for a long time. I ran a 71 bus that I bought for $400 for 10 years, and there was similar work necessary up front, but it yielded years of reliable service, and eventually sold it for 5x what I paid for it. Cheers.
