Advice on buying a 1st Gen Wagon?
O.C.D. replied to ystrdyisgone's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
$300 tops, maybe. -
Don't remember where but here is what I did with the swap and yes, I love it. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/130804-ocds-1980-brat-the-squirrel/?do=findComment&comment=1112730 Where did you locate that filter? Was that in the bed panels, under the bed or the engine bay?
-
K, so I see Forester 5x100 Steelies but nothing more explaining th e"hybrid" swap. I am assuming a Legacy swap of some sort? Do you have any more info and or a build thread?
-
Well, you can admit you have some work but in general that is not a bad Brat! And for $500 I think you did well. I paid $400 for mine and it was way worse. As for long hours, yes, you are in for them, lol. But enjoy it. These old Subies are fun to work on. Don't know what you are looking to do but my favorite mod has been the 6-lug swap and new wheels/low pro tires.
-
I just got a new front end on my LGT and I WILL NOT put holes in the new OEM bumper!!! That is until a cop tells me to, lol.
-
Sweet, I sourced every gasket/seal from SOA for mine and did not know of this until today. Oh well, live and learn.
-
I like the rear window "Subaru" in red. Looks like she is a good platform to restore/rebuild.
-
FYI we have a law here now where you can't run the front plate in the windshield now. Passed a couple years back I think.
-
And white ftw!!! I knew it would look better. Damn nice. As for the Audi front end? Hmmmmm. Ok, I like it.

Brat DIY Back Seat Wind Dam

You can also paint over plastidip as many have done. Then you can do any color you choose. I might add that you could benefit from side moldings as well. I am no fluid dynamics or aerospace engineer but I would think that air coming in on the sides would create vortexes underneath the dam that could cause lift? You have no trailer or closely following structure behind the dam to help the flow continue. Just a thought. Then again this is a gen 1 Brat, lol. You aren't exactly going to be hitting 85 on the highway, lol. -
Isn't that bushing location off center now though? Are you going to cut the sleeve out and re-weld it in or what? I am curious as well. I guess it wouldn't be me if I posted and didn't mention wheels. But I still think those 22B's would look better on a Legacy GT?!??
-
Meh, those wheels are ok. I think you should import another 4 sets of "optional" wheels so we can help you decide. Totally kidding, those last ones are the best so far.
-
That a Perrin DP or what? Seems like it is for the later gens like the 2.5's or newer? A TD04 on an EA82 should be VERY interesting to say the least.

Can you send me a limb off of your money tree so I can plant it here in Colorado. Dang you get the nice stuff! Magnesium rocker covers?!

79 BRAT Clutch Issue
O.C.D. replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Maestro left ya hanging, lol. I am following as I have to replace my clutch when I pull my engine and this is very helpful. -
after 2 and a half years of searching heres my 1980 brat

Swap the engine because of a resistor? -
Not bad - a lift, cut fenders/flares, tube bumper, 6-lug swap and even a fake WRX hood scoop!!! Seems like a good find I would say.

Youtube video old gen car chase
O.C.D. replied to ShawnW's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
May be a repost but I always love that "Fast" car chase in Double Clutch -
Wow that is a nice Gen 2 Brat!!! I have my reservations on buying one of these but I would love to own this one. Very good example of what a well maintained vintage Subie can look/run like. Thanks fo rsharing.

Well, the whole things, yes. But I don't expect you or anyone to do that. I keep looking and I miss out on them it seems? -
So with an EJ20 and TD05 tuned you should be putting down about 265? If I am close then that is a seriously fast little Brat/Ute/MPV. I dig the conversion to the underhood intercooler. I like the big ol FMIC but that could not have been hidden at all. So good choice to go TMIC. 9" wide Rotas as well, lol. This is such a cool Subie.
