My new to me 1980 Subaru GL Brat.
O.C.D. replied to O.C.D.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Darn on the seat belts. I never would have known, thanks. I was thinking that the jump seats were all the same. Is the frame the same as well? Does my set look like a stock frame? Thanks. And yes, I have high hopes for her. based on the pics I think I found a pretty good one for the money. -
My new to me 1980 Subaru GL Brat.
O.C.D. replied to O.C.D.'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
And since I am crazy I have already been looking for parts without having the vehicle. I saw some jump seats on CL today and snagged them. I am not sure if they are the right Gen though? Looking for insights on that potential issue. -
Hopefully this is in the right place. If not I apologize. I already had an introduction thread in the noobs section so I won't go into my details. But, I was looking for a quad-head light GL in the 78-81 flavor. Low and behold I ended up tracking this down last week. As of last Friday it is mine for $400. The guy is delivering it to Denver (an hour away) for me to pick up. That will be after he drives 4 hours to deliver?! So I threw in another $100 for that huge trouble. But, he offered and is a really great guy. So unless it falls through, I have a Brat! Here are the CL pics: Might be 100,000 or maybe 200,000? Pics that were sent to me: Interior - looks like fun. Bed appears to have all chrome? She will need a clutch, output bearings, and general TLC under here. What do you think? New door and fender? So, this will be my process thread and I will post more when she is home next week. Can't wait to go through here and see what is missing. So far I am pretty sure I need a left fender, left door or skin, front bumper, spare, catback, left rear light, head-rests, etc. jon

Ok, here they are: Anyone want to learn me on the possible year of the seats? Reasons as to why they might be first gen or?.... Thanks.

Don't know - posting pics in a couple minutes.

Ah crud, could have doubled quoted, oh well. Thanks, I love my WRX. Had her almost a year and she has 1800 miles on her! Never been in snow or rain and I only live 600 feet from work. She was/is my personal Ferrari, lol. In 15 years she may only have 10,000 miles?! I am after a 1978 to be exact. I want a Brat from my birth year because of the year and the look. I am learning but a quad headlight Brat may be an 80-81? Either way, there are a few around me but man are they hard to get a hold of. These people post them and never return calls. All I can do is try.

The brightness was full as the lights were off and I was in the garage. When heads are turned on they all dim accordingly.

I flippin love the setup! The cluster is fantastic and the Defi gauges are top notch. Click on the pictures for the install. Might have to scroll to the top when you do. Lip spoiler:

Here she was after her first real bath:

Forgot pics: I "Phoenix" is her name and she was purchased on 3/25/2011. Had 8 miles on her and is near 700 now, lol. I work around the corner from my house so she will not get much time on the road for a while. I named her Phoenix because I have waited almost 10 years for a WRX due to being stupid in my 20's and what it took for me to get to my 30's, lol. I just completed the SMY Cluster with Defi gauges so I thought I would start a build thread. I have done more to her so here is the list. 2011 Premium WRX Satin White Pearl Hatch: SPT Cat-back STI Front Lip Spoiler All-Weather Mats Armrest Extension Cobb SS Cobb Bushings Cobb Knob "Red" Kartboy Rear Bushing Rvinyl Red Tail-light Tint w/cutouts - Self Rvinyl Yellow Fog-light tint - Self Tint - 30% (I think too dark on light colors looks gross) 24" Clear Bra on front SMY Dual-Gauge Cluster Defi Red Racer boost gauge Defi Red Racer Oil Pressure gauge Perrin Shorty Antenna AEM CAI Torqued Performance Sage 1+ Complete custom stereo install by me. Here she is at the dealer the day I picked her up. Anyone in Northern Colorado I highly recommend Flatirons Subaru/Tuning:

Meet Stanley the wonder Van
O.C.D. replied to Subie Gal's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ran across your Stanley on NASIOC. Glad to see it here as well. Love that Subaru! -
Almost forgot, my first car was a 1987 GL sedan. Loved that car until she met her fate when the cam tower blew on the highway. Loved that car......

Go to the dealer and order the car you want it. I did that with my 2011 WRX and have no regrets. Avoid the STI/SPT name for most parts. There are far better out there. That being said I am running the 2011 SPT exhaust and love it. As for waiting for a 2013, that is up to you. I would personally snag a 3rd gen STi before a 4th gen (2013) STI. They will be a 2.0 liter or lower and not have nearly the torque as the 2.5. The current 2.5 is the last of the great ones, literally. Get one while you can.

Hello all, I am a member of many forums and this will be my first intro. I am mainly introducing myself because I am looking for help acquiring a Brat. First gen preferable. My family has had Subarus for 30 years and I still work on my Brother's 81 GL wagon to help him out. I have a 2011 WRX that I just bought and it is incredible. Still though, I am looking for a project Brat that I can place beside the 2011. I live in Colorado Springs, CO and have recently learned that finding a Brat is pretty hard. I am ready for anything other than a crapped out body. I have been lurking on your forums for weeks checking out the classifieds and whatnot. So I decided to join mainly for help in locating a Brat. That being said, hello, and thanks for this community. I love these kinds of forums. If anyone has any info on a Brat in my area I would greatly appreciate it. I have been searching Craigslist and Ebay for months. Closest Brat I would buy is $2400 for an '80. Second closest is pretty bad. Thanks in advance. Jon
