  1. Thank you for the responses guys. I hate to post such a whiney comment but this place is not like it used to be (and I have only been here for 15 months?)? Not many people commenting on the builds unless it is new people or the 27 page threads that have no updates? Any way, I digress. I am looking into purchasing a Weber based on trying to find out what I am missing from the above pic. I have not been able to locate those linkages and have learned that the Weber is so much easier to install/run/tune. So for now I will scratch the carb questions. I am interested in the trans rebuild now though. I am going to start it tonight and have been looking for anything that can tell me what to do with this trans. What to do, look out for and just simple practices are what I am after. Wallaby - I am trying to make this as stock as possible but refining some aspects like the wheels/tires/seats/carb etc. I do want an almost original Brat though. Thanks.
  2. So either my build is only visible to me on USMB or ? How come no one is wanting to help with my questions? Kind of frustrating as I see others posting???? Oh well, I will try and ask some more. Anyone have any insights or helpful links to rebuilding the EA71 trans? I have it ready to be re-sealed and all I can find is the EA81/82 rebuild thread. I would really appreciate some hints or things to lookout for.
  3. Never ends, huh? LOL What axle unit are you going to purchase? If possible can you post the part number? Might have missed it but where did you get the decal? Pooparu?
  4. I was gonna say, that last set of pictures made me sad as that is a lot of structural rust. But, as you have said, "3 have been fixed". What did you end up buying for the core? Was it an OEM, aftermarket or used?
  5. LMAO - I learned this the hard way last year when it was 100 degrees and I didn't get the hardener ratio right. But once figured out, Bondo is muy bueno!!!
  6. Wondered where you had been. I am about to purchase a Weber, can you provide more detail on the setup, the tuning and cap off of emissions? Are those simply crankcase breathers on your valve covers?
  7. Some were black but mine were not. I didn't want to play the paint game cause I would have matched it factory and that would have wasted time and $. The Squirrel is more about getting running then looks at this point. I just want to drive the dang thing.
  8. Seems I am missing a lot of linkage parts?
  9. But I need carb help. Can any of you tell me what I have here and if this is right or bad? See my finger in there. This is a weight of some sort that actuates a lever or arm. Seems to be connected to the secondary? Should this be connected to anything? Look at the first and second pic quickly. What am I moving? These two vacuums. They have hoses attached but is there something else missing? Are they supposed to be connected? The one on the right has a hole for a spring? Would that connect to the part above it? From the last pic I asked about the "part" above the vacuum. Here is that part. It seems you can advance or retard it? What is this? and what should it be connected to? I don't have the naming conventions for these parts but I would appreciate some insights. Anyone have an exploded view of this carb or a link to a proper rebuild of the carb? Thanks. Jon
  10. Actually finished up the reseal this last Monday. Was impressed that I got is all back together, lol. The air lines for the heads were so bad from oil but I got them all cleaned up and mounted. Carbs suck, have I ever mentioned this? I can usually make them work but this one has me perplexed. So many little nuances that went into the design of this thing. But I am sure that you all have seen these if you are reading this. Here is the before: Decided it time for the thermostat to be done. I am betting that this was the OEM one from the original build. And voila! All buttoned up and ready to be back in her home. It has been brought to my attention that I need to paint the pulleys. So I may do that as well.
  11. I disagree - gotta keep the sleeper look as much as possible.
  12. I was gonna contact him after I posted this but then realized that I haven't even put the EA71 back in mine. SO I will not worry. Moosens the valve covers are painted. They used to be blue. I will paint the pullys if I get the urge. As for the carb, yes, I have sooooo many questions about that mess of crap. But I have refrained from posting as no one comments on my questions? Boo hoo I know but what to do?
  13. Basically be prepared to wait. Parts come up in waves it seems. Some months dry and then boom. Just remember, you have a pretty old Brat.
  14. http://jalopnik.com/for-3-500-be-a-king-of-leone-512573451 Reason I post? I wanna ask the dude about the swap.
  15. Can't say "Warrantying" anything but returned "open/used" product was no issue. I believe they even payed for return shipping.
  16. New axle I am betting - same thing happened after we swapped my brothers EA81 axles. Pain in the butt. I am guessing they are remans?
  17. Wow, that is gonna be a fun one. Can you find another donor with less than 200k? Maybe sell that entire car and look for a motor around 100k?
  18. All the lead up to the intercooler and then no pics? Hack that up Nico, lets see that bad boy in there.
  19. I might as well keep posting in my thread, lol. Still looking for any insights on the voltage regulator and the alternator. What are you all using on these old girls?
  20. I think my 2005 LGT has the same bushings in the LCA's as well!!! I laughed when I saw that one. Nothing like 1960/70's technology running into the next century!
  21. I have an old .pdf from the late 70's that has most of the correct parts. I then shop at a reputable dealer in WA and search for the part. About 50/50 on success but sometimes there is a new part number that cross references and turns out to be right. Plus I call a lot and make sure that I am on the right path for the part. I have honestly not been able to find maybe 10 or so parts. Everything else is still around if you look hard enough.
  22. Also forgot to add these couple pics. When I had the heads of I noticed the typical cracks (from what I have learned) in between the intake and exhaust valves. I don't know if I mentioned but I also replaced all the exhaust manifold studs as well. The PO had only three in there and he used gasket sealer to make it work - it didn't, lol. One was kind of stripped but I could get enough for a tight hold. Used lots of red loctite. Another thing that was bad was the leads for the distributor. They were flimsy and weak. Some places they were worn through and the copper corroded. So I improvised and made a new lead that looks factory. Here is the old one. Found some 14 gauge speaker wire but it was too big. Used some 16 gauge and pulled the pigtails out of the connector. Soldered on the new leads and the heat shrank them both. This allowed for a complete cleaning - was full of oil. I then twisted them like OEM. I was barely able to get the heat shrink the wires?! I had to use foot powder to make it slide. I then shrank it and I have a brand new lead. Connected it up to the old leads which were good in the disty housing. And done!!! I need to gap to "0.014 I think still.
