If your insurance company is Progressive do not, I repeat DO NOT let one of their claims adjusters near your car. Get your estimates from an auto body shop. byron -
Thanks snowman that's what i'm lookin for: a where and a how and a take this apart. I just hope the guy lets me at the car with some tools befor I buy it. byron

I think the smoke is out the exhaust. I'm guessing its the turbo.

What would be the most likely cause for an ea82t to smoke? I'm looking at buying one with 175k on the clock. I would say ring job on any other vehicle but this is a subie. How can you tell if its the turbo? diesel

I just hope that Progressive gives me a fair deal. I'm guessing that my repair bill will be 10k+ because every piece of metal will need to be replaced. One of my concerns though, is with the side airbags. I think there are crumple sensors built into the body that work with the inertial sensing system. I would like to know how these work. Does anyone know if there is any way I can get my car third party inspected while they rebuild it? Ok this is assuming that it doesn't get totaled. As far as the high buyback I have heard some pretty high numbers like 3k for a new 2wd reg cab ranger:-\ . byron

Well wednesday morning I get to talk to my insurance adjuster. The word going around is that if damage to the car is 60% (this is a local figure) then they will total it. This is much lower than the regular 80% most people have been telling me about. Now I have to decide on how much a buy back is worth. I'm still willing to drive my forester eventhough all the pretty has been beat off it but I think the buyback will be at least 6500. I'm really not sure if I want pay this for an off road vehicle that I can't lower the gear ratio on. If I get a lift from mudrat and bump up the tire size I will need gobs more low end torque. Can this be done with a cam? Oh yeah I'll still need to invest about a grand to get it back on the road. So I guess it boils down to the buy back cost. Maybe I should get a gl10 or rx d/r 5spd like I had origonally planned. I'll post my $$$$$ figures when I get them. byron _________________ 04 Forester X Titeleist edition

Hail!

Prolly go against the grain (cause its NA) and add on a supercharger and then some 33" swampers. Maybe paint it up to look like the anti-General Lee. I got a torch and a tig the possibilities are endless. byron -
Can somebody with Progressive insurance and a Forester X 04 get the retail value of their car and post it or PM it. On the Progressive web site they post the retail value of the car. They have made this unavaliable to me since they know where I'm from and they know my car is totaled. I do have the KBB and I'm watching cars on Ebay but I want to know what they say my car is worth. I just want a fair deal. Thanks for any help byron Here's the carnage for those of you who havn't seen. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=2258&size=big&sort=1&cat=500 http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showphoto.php?photo=2257&size=big&sort=1&cat=500

Hail!

This is the last thing that I would have expected. Not more than a 15 min drive from here will bring me to the base of a small mountain range reaching 11,000 feet. The storm rolled over these mountains and then over the 8,000 foot peak right on the edge of town. This stuff happens where it is flat like Denver not here. My car got hammered for 15 min with 2" hail then a few baseball size in the end. The strange thing is there was no wind to speak of.Just enough to skew the angle of attack from all directions. Anybody know what the insurance will do? I just paid my third payment last week. byron -

I have the pics but I didn't think to change the resolution on my camera. So most of my files are about 500k too big. I have no way to change the resolution here at work. I don't think a ding king will work for me. I have several hundred DENTS. Most of them have spider web cracks in the paint. The plastic on my side mirrors was blasted off, the hail even knocked off my subie stars on my grill. I wounder if the insurance will total my car. I wanted the XT anyway. byron -
For turning corners. The outside wheel travels farther than the inside wheel. Had a Mustang like this but we jus ran it with the tires squaking on the corners. We were such dorks.

How rare is a 76 dl 2wd wagon
Diesel replied to Racer-x's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Racer, Lets do up the turbo sedan. Then tear up the missle range. PM me. -
Yes your right about the turbo....but I WANT A TURBO! My wife didn't want the XT so I have a plain old 2.5 in my driveway. Hence the need for a 4wd turbo. So is it big bucks to raise the gear ratio. byron
-
For sure a 5 speed and a turbo. What about gear reduction for big ***** rubber. Can this be done in the tranny? This thing has to go all the places my 3/4 ton did and then some. byron

I want a GL 10 turbo wagon for my next STOMPER. What would be a good year(s)? byron
-
Not biodiesel just veg oil. Biodiesel requires about half again as much methanol to make so there really is no gain in $$$. Waste Veg Oil is a cool trick you can do with diesels that use a precombustion chamber. Your 300 could use my kit but worst case you would be cleaning injectors every X,000 miles. Might get to go lookin for subie's this weekend but I don't know what I want or what's avaliable. Adios

Hola! amigo. Socorro is getting wet! Any day it rains in the desert is a good day. Are you wet? My wife is gonna let me do it too. I still have the condition that the vegg-o-matic has to go. byron

1st post Howdy everyone, I have a little unfinished business with my current off road and then I'll be an official subie wannabe. A few weeks ago I got to go romping in my wifes 04 Forester and no its not the XT:( but now I'm hooked. I think I will need one that I can dent. These rides are a blast. I will miss my vegg-o-matic but her time has come. (Februrary 1984 - August 15 2004) Hey maybe I can yank out her turbo and cram it in my fool bus. Naa, prolly too big. I think I will concentrate on scouring the land for parts to create Soobnstein. Byron
