A while ago, we test drove a RAV4 for my mother-in-law. We all actually liked the car, except for the fact that it sounded really echoey when talking and driving. It was the base trim package though. Does that improve with the higher trim packages, or do you just get more bells and whistles? The added power and space was nice. This whole thread was started because of a transmission issue...the car only has 130k on it and has been through every major issue known to these Foresters and Subaru refused to help with anything. We lost a lot of respect for SOA with this car.

That's kinda what I thought. Those giant integrated screens are usually difficult to replace. I wasn't impressed with the Harmon Kardon system in the 2022 ascent or 2020 outback we had on loaner. I had a friend want to replace the unit in a 2015 Lexus IS. There are a couple options if you want Android Auto/Apple Carplay but no real replacement options

There are tons of reasons to not buy a new car. I do despise them in a lot of ways. The main reason to buy a newer vehicle is that we drive...A LOT. We do 25-30,000 miles a year. A lot of which are in bad weather, in the mountains, and at night. If I could find a 2005 Subaru that didn't have 200k+ on it, I'd rather buy that. Good luck, especially in Colorado. As far as values go, a new or lightly used Subaru is a better deal than a used one in Colorado. I have a 2002 Impreza TS 5MT with 140k on it and body damage. I paid 6k for it 10 years ago. I could easily get 10k for it in my area now. A new Forester starts at 23k. Granted it comes with headaches, unwanted tech, and a decreased ability to work on it. The problem definitely stems from poor driving ability and insurance issues. Sadly, you can't fix stupid...it is a plague. I personally find it more distracting fighting the technology than just driving... I have replaced several sets.if head gaskets as well. The EJ years are amazingly easy to work on. We have been a Subaru family for over 30 years (including our parents vehicles). We.love the cars and love what Subaru stands for. We use and abuse our Subarus, and usually they do fine. We have tried looking at other brands and just cannot stray away, they just don't offer the capability a Subaru does. The goal of this post was to get people's opinions and experiences of newer Subaru models and what they are like to live with. Everyone on here knows the older Subarus are far more reliable, there's no debate there. Does anyone know if the infotainment systems can be replaced with aftermarket stuff?

Hello Everyone, I was passing someone the other day and when I floored it, the RPMS went up as usual, then kept going until the rev limiter was engaged. The engine bounced off the limiter until I let off the gas which took a couple seconds to figure out what was happening...the car is an automatic after all. 2014 Forester 2.5 Premium. 130k on the car as of this morning. The car never did it again over the next 1500 miles. Car runs great otherwise. Recent work: differential oil changes (Amsoil) CVT oil change (Amsoil). I followed the factory procedure and put in approximately 5.5 qts. New short block 12k ago.

The PZEV is essentially a catalytic converter with twice the contact surface area. This does make them more likely to get stolen, but I think Subarus sit a little low for this to be a common occurrence My wife's forester does get fantastic fuel economy for a Subaru. It's one of the things we do love about the car. We average upper 20's around town. On the highway, we actually get worse, but we are usually doing 80mph+ through the mountains with camping, photography, and rock hounding gear. If we don't hammer on it, it gets 30mpg+ We have never had a problem with emissions or anything related to it. If your daughter found a new generation Subaru with the FB25A engine in it that didn't have all of the bells and whistles and didn't have oil consumption, it would probably be a pretty good car. The base model doesn't come with the CVT (we have grown quite fond of it, but we were hesitant at first). If she could spring for a car with the FB25D even better. Introduction of the FB25D varied based on model, but as a general rule most models after 2018 started receiving it. A NA EJ251/2 is still going to be your absolute best bet for a "modern" Subaru though; they are just getting hard to find with low mileage and in decent shape.

My wife drives a 14 Forester. Don't buy one. It's constant maintenance. The FB25A engine is no good (notorious oil consumption). CVTs are hit and.miss, my wife's Forester has it. I change the oil every 20k and we have had no problems, but the forums are filled with failure threads. On the flip side, I have a 2002 impreza NA with the EJ25 and 5MT. It's bulletproof apart from when I let it down. I have done very little to it. The EJ engine is notorious for head gasket issues, while the FB engine doesn't have problems with the gaskets. Personally, I would not buy anything after 2006 and nothing with a turbo. The H6 is a solid engine but terrible fuel economy. The 4eat transmission is pretty solid and better than the 5eat. The manual transmissions are all pretty solid. Biggest most common repairs to look for are head gasket issues and if timing has been done. CV axles are expensive as well. Again, early 2000s we're all solid cars. Anything after that, expect maintenance. Our Forester lost of major repairs: 4 engine blocks (including the one from the factory) $6500 Heated seats replacement $700 and backordered Occupant detection mat for airbags $700 AC compressor $1000 CV axles $800 Subaru would not cover anything under warranty despite most of it being known issues Subaru makes good cars, but I have lost a lot of faith in them and the dealerships. Prices are parts only except for the engine block. I would have a hard.time buying another newer Subaru.

Hello Everyone, I have to do a drain and fill on my 14 Forester CVT. I had a dedicated fluid pump for this but accidentally used it for ATF on another vehicle. If I were to use it again on the CVT and pumped a few pumps of CVT through to flush the ATF, would the residual ATF cause any damage? I would think it would be so diluted it wouldn't matter, but I know these things can be sensitive. Cheers

The engineers get blamed for a lot of design issues, but we forget that they are constrained primarily by budget. Subaru tells them to build a car for x amount so they do it. Some things just cannot be accessible for a reasonable cost. I've also owned Subarus for well over 10 years now and never had to replace a relay on any of the cars. Everything is a trade-off and is largely based on likelihood of failure and service. The relays could be made easy to access at the sacrifice of your interior lighting fuse., Or headlights, etc. Have you tried working on a Jeep? Nissan? Toyota? Ford? Us Subaru guys actually have it pretty easy. At least our cars are.pretty reliable and easy to work on.

Hello Everyone! The car in question is a 14 Forester Premium. The issue at hand is some unwanted play in the bracket attaching the seat back to the seat bottom. It is only on the inboard side and started after the seat was leaned on. I pulled the seat thinking maybe something was loose since I am just replaced the bottom, but all was tight. I noticed that the square peg in the middle of the spring on this bracket was moving a in when I pushed on the seat back which results in the audible pop and movement. Two questions: One: Any chance this can be serviced? I didn't see any way to do so but thought I would ask. Two: Can I buy a new bracket only? Subaru was confused as to what I was asking for but thought it was probably part of the seat back assembly. I was not able to locate the party online but I'm not the best with their system. I have attached a picture from the Subaru parts website showing the part I am inquiring about. Cheers!

Hello Everyone! Anyone else flying through windshields these days? I get a new.one every couple months. The tiniest of chips turn into large cracks before they can be fixed. Pretty much any small rock blows the glass out and requires replacement. If it can be filled, it never "disappears" anymore, I can always see it. I'm tired of garbage products and service. What happened to the world? Why does everything just suck anymore? Why does a windshield cost $600 anymore and fail on pretty much the first impact? It's exhausting Rant over.
