I know in my 90 legacy the front wheels get 90% and the rear gets 10% of the power. This all changes when the vehicle senses slipping. It transfers power from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip. I think most Subarus are like that except for the STi which has a user adjustable center differential. Hope this shed some light..

Please visit www.the12volt.com and take the time to register. It is fast and free. There you will find a ton of answers to your question. Most likely you will find someone who has already done the swap. You could also go to you local bestbuy and purchase the Aftermarket wiring harness for your car and then get the wiring code for the 95's off the12volt or from someone on here. Hope this helps.

I know they used sand in CO for the most parts and that magnesium stuff if the ice gets too bad. I've heard it will eat your brake pads if not rinsed off properly but I've never heard of it rusting out vehicles. I know in upstate NY they use salt on the roads. I used to drive my shelby daytona in the winter and then when spring I would be sure to wash the under carriage very well and I never had any rust on it when I sold it. Alot of people fail to rinse the hidden places in their car so those are the places that rust out the worst. Like the lip of liftgates, trunklids, wheel wheels, Cowls, under the hood, trunk lining (near the weather stripping) Cars would last longer if people took care of them properly. Thats why people buy cars from the south...no salt! Well if you live by the ocean there is some sea spray but one again if you wash your car you reduce the risk of rust. All cars that are not undercoated and not properly taken care of will rust. Any exposed metal will rust in the right (wrong) conditions. Oxidation is a beeotch!

Automatics are always better for pulling a trailer but I am pretty sure that the most you can pull with a legacy is 3,500lbs. Although the engines in the early legacys were known for their reliability, the trannys were not. I have 239K on mine but I think it would have lasted longer if I didn't pull a dolly behind it with a subaru attached to it now and then. I did this in Colorado so there were many hill climbs. I love my legacy.

Change the timing belt every 60K regardless of weither it needs it or not. While you have the belt off change the waterpump, oil pump seal, cank and cam seals and tighten the screws on the back of the oil pump. Use NGK Copper plugs, stay away from synth oil, use redline tranny fluid or gear lube. Only use OEM t-stats and waterpump.

I just moved to Florida from Lakewood so I know all about the hail. I was there for the last major hail storm. I saw the first peace of golf ball sized hail hit the ground and I proceeded to get the legacy under the biggest tree I could find. I thought this would give me some sort of protection. I was sorta right. As I watched the constant onslaught of hail break windsheilds like brown glass beer bottles under a mac trucks wheels, I also watched the hail turn the large tree into toilet paper with a leaf or two...because the majority of the branches were on top of my car. It was a good thing I was in my Roo because when it stopped there were about 3 inches of hail on the ground and nobody was going anywhere except me. I went to the car wash just a few short blocks away and proceeded to clean the tree off. While washing said car I was alerted by the Tornado Siren...then I had to haul butt to my home about a mile away. Luckily there was no tornado near me but there was one spotted a few miles from me. Crappy aye... You should see my car. I had replaced the hood on my legacy a few days before the storm hit. The previous one had a small ding from the previous owner. Needless to say I was upset.

Subarus are great cars for doing a little mild off-roading but they were never ment to cross rivers and lakes. Keep the Roo out of the water hole and you should have no problem. Put it up on ramp or jackstands and take a really good look underneath your car. There you might find the reason for your problems.

4EAT to 5MT swap..Whats involved?
coloradosubarules replied to coloradosubarules's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
I think I actually have the solution. Shortbus wants my jacuzzi so he found a nice 91 legacy wagon that needs a little work. It has the 5 speed in it already. Thanks for your help. Your site is full of all kinds of great info and pics. -
KInda sounds to me like you have a bad relay. Call your local dealer and ask them where to find said relay. They can be bought at your local parts store and are easy to install. This would be your cheapest fix. If it does not solve the problem then I would go the remote route. If you have questions regarding KES you can ask the folks at www.the12volt.com and they might be able to give you more info. You do have to register to post on their forum but it is fast and free. I have refered many people there and they have all thanked me because they were able to answer their question. Hope this helps
