I have a 90 legacy wagon with auto tranny AWD with 239K on it. From time to time when I pul it in the driveway (kinda slopes) , put it in park and turn tun the key off it has a tendency to slide forward a bit. Not when I put it in park...only after I kill the engine. My foot is not on the brake when I turn the car off. What gives? Is it a sign of my failing 4EAT at joe's?

4EAT to 5MT swap..Whats involved?
coloradosubarules replied to coloradosubarules's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Will I be able to retain my driveshaft? Is the firewall pre-drilled for the new peddle assembly? Do I have a choice of cable or hydraulic? Got any pictures? How hard is it to get the flywheel off? I tired on an engine I pulled and couldn't get that thing off for the life of me. -
I have never owned an SVX but my reccomendation would be to heat the S**T out of the lense with a hair dryer or heat gun untill the misture is gone. If there is a bulb remove it so the moisture can have someplace to go. If there is no bulb you are going to want to try to find where the moisture is getting in from.

The 90 legacy's auto is slipping a little and I am considering doing the 5MT swap but I would like to know what is involved before hunting down the parts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I wouldn't be doing the conversion untill sometime next year so I have plenty of time to find the parts and get it all plannned out.

I have 239K on my 4EAT (auto) and it is just now starting to slip. Please understand that I take mine off-road and used to pull cars behind it on a dolly in the hills of Colorado. It has served me well. If you decide on a 90-94 legacy try to get one with low mikes. (around 100-150K) Yes this is low miles to these cars. Be sure the engine was kept up well as Subaru reccomends that the timing belt be changed every 60K regardless of weither it needs it or not. It's not a bad investment. I have heard of alot of people doing the 5MT (manual) conversion once the auto tranny goes but I am not sure what is involved.

I had my 90 legacy doing 100mph on the highway today and it feels pretty darn tight. I have taken this car off-road and beaten the crap out of it and still no shimmy or knocks. If you feel it could be hazardous then I would highly reccomend taking it to a goooood mechanic or suspension speacialist and find out what is wrong. Then you can take it home and replace it. This way you get a straight answer and save some money. (sorta) Something could be broken and it could be dangerous to you and everyone on the road.
