  1. What % of ea82 cars were made after 1992? Just saying.. Torque the castle nut properly (my weight with a 2.5' breaker bar, ~120-150ft lbs) and use the proper cotter pin, and forget about it. Slight worn cone, flat belleville washer, won't matter. I beat the spoob out of my first 3 door, rallycross/recce/jumping/full lock debeads.. for 200k miles. And never once did the OUT stamp really matter. Hell if you wanted worried about the stock preload specs, put 2 worn ones like this )( and torque it down... same as new (or atleast close in preload).
  2. I've swapped fwd 3at to ft4wd and you can either re-weld the bung, fab a support bar with a small spacer for the bearing ear that's a little higher (what I did), or just buy a 1 piece driveshaft. I crashed the car so I do not have pictures of the carrier bearing support, but I'll see if I can find the mount in my garage to give you an idea.. You don't have to rewire anything yet either, you can just remove the AT switch from the switch lever temporarily. Its like an extra killswitch if you switch it out of P or N. And you can switch to R if you need the reverse lights. I DD'd like that for over a year lol.
  3. 3AT the slushiest of all slushboxes, I hate that transmission more than I hate terrorists. At least a terrorist puts you out of your misery.
  4. My point was: If it's torqued to like 100+ft/lbs and had a huge cotter pin installed, the orientation of the bellevue washer probably matters nil. Esp when they were first made without the little "out" stamp. I mean if you had the cone washer backwards.... But again just do it the right way! Disclaimer: I navigated the second day of rally idaho on blown tie rods and a bad front wheel bearing in a GC impreza. So my ideas of safety are probably skewed.
  5. Honestly, I can't see how the direction would matter much. At least not catastrophically so. Its just putting preload on the cone, like a big Bellevue washer? Disclaimer: Don't listen to anything I say, I was born redneck. ^^maybe that should be in my sig
  6. I think i'd give my left nut to tinker with the "sport ecu" , part # 22611AA580 This also shows the details of converting to/adjusting solid lifters, but those parts are not avail anymore.
  7. Does anyone have the first 9 pages of these? I save these years and years ago, but was never able to find those first pages... Sharing to make sure they get saved out there in world somewhere..
  8. Yep, they can make any thickness you want with that hybrid gasket.
  9. Old quote I pulled from ShawnW with part numbers: "The cone is 623024020 and the washer between it and the castle nut is 623204080." They run about 8 bucks
  10. As 175eya said, try to find a cone and washer that are not too worn. And make sure to use the largest cotter pin possible, smaller ones will just work their way out.
  11. Ahh so it is an HCF, cool! I know many WRX's running e85 with no problems with the fuel lines/gaskets/seals. Its great for detonation prevention in addition to ~30% more power/less mileage.. But would likely need to play with injector sizes and maybe a bigger fuel pump. The ej25 head gaskets can block coolant passages in the 22 heads, use the cometic hybrid gasket. Part# H1631SPK040S (.040). Hopefully this is the gasket you were running before.
  12. I'm not sure this is a HCF (aka frankenstein), I think Fox was just referring to how it was running. Note to get OT, but you could run thicker head gaskets to bring the HCF compression down a touch. Or hell, just go e85.
  13. OEM gasket is in hand, I'll post some pics when I get home. It will go out to gasketstogo via USPS airmail tomorrow morning, first thing. I was also told that the OEM gasket will probably not be made anymore, can that be true? The dealership told me they just threw away over 50 ea82 oil and air filters too. And that they would have given me them for free.
  14. The only thing I can come up with is cracked piston sleeve or shattered ringland. When I shattered the #4 piston in my 07 wrx, I made the same hole in the piston joke. It was denial manifesting as humor lol.
  15. Would probably work fine, if you had an auto it would be nothing at all. I have a friend that tows a similar trailer with a gc impreza w5mt, to carry the cones for rallyx. Couldn't be worse than loading your car up with 3-4 huge women, not that I have ever done such a thing.
  16. Yessir, 1mm compressed. You can mic a MLS gasket right by a rivet and get a pretty close measurement.
  17. Just cleaning up the pattern some, I was planning to trace out (carbon paper) a head and block tonight.. then check that against the OEM gasket when it arrives on mon/tue. The handful of aftermarket gaskets I have here vary so much in dimensions its ridiculous. Also I may timesert one of my blocks and use larger bolts or paeco studs too, so I'm going to ask for the bolt holes to be a little bit larger. I'll ask John @ GtG to save both the original and my template either way.
  18. Hehe, it happens. For those rear top hat bolts, I use a foot long (or longer) 1/2" socket extension and a breaker bar. It really helps getting at them without denting the fender or bleeding knuckles.
  19. I did mention it, the quote he gave me is for 1mm and 1.1mm thickness. The costs per gasket and in bulk vary depending on thickness, I assume. His pricing seems to be very shoot from the hip too, if you were ordering in bulk he could probably do a much better deal. If we all did a group buy it could probably be even cheaper. I just hate waiting for people and would rather just get'r'done.. even at my expense. Then gaskets to go would have a template for anyone to use in the future. The slightly higher price on the first set might be me bothering him so much about ideas for changes and a barrage of questions too lol. I'm probably going to make a few changes to my gaskets, but give him the OEM gasket for a template if someone just wants a replica of the OEM in MLS.
  20. 12:1, yep. Hence the whole idea of a high compression frankenstein, I stand by the numbers I quoted. The heads have the same shape, but different volume. I'll go pull some PaP heads and CC them, if you really want.. But there is plenty of info out there if you search nasioc. Good read: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=631527
  21. Source? Everything I have read or researched begs to differ. Unless not all p2 ej22 heads are created equal. "The phase 2 2.2 heads do have the same combustion shape as the phase 2 2.5 heads from 99 to 05. However, the combustion chamber volume for the phase 2 2.2 heads is 41 cc's where as the chamber volume for the phase 2 2.5 heads I believe is 51 cc's."
  22. Formula I saved years ago, not sure if I helps you any: Originally Posted by grafton simple version of franken motor combos: engine block + heads= "best" p2 2.5 + p2 2.2: highest compression ratio (stock gasket) better manifold options, decient heads good p1 2.5 + p2 2.2 again good manifold options and decient heads p2 2.5 + p1 2.2 dual ports (header options & possible better flow than single ports) p1 2.5 + p1 2.2 dual ports ok p2 2.5 + p1 2.2 single ports p1 2.5 + p1 2.2 single ports thats for running completely stock, aka slaping it together and going. if you can port & polish, do cams, or a valve job you'll be much better off
  23. I received a quote from John @ gaskets 2 go, ~150$/each for 2+ or ~120$/each for 6+ (1 pair, 3 pairs) in 1mm and 1.1mm thickness. I will just cough up the dough for the first 3 sets of MLS gaskets.
  24. Dang! I would have lost money, that is a rare color for the RS (as far as the ones I've seen in Norcal). And the trim white and black too, weird. The car hasn't ever been resprayed? Sweet ride tho, looks clean. With the same tires and a sorted suspension, I think have a good shot at beating a A4. He's more bloated. Still never seen a black RS in person or on this forum..
