  1. Hey Kasper, Is there 12 volts to the choke? There should be a wire that goes to the choke, the thing in red circle on the left side of pic,to know if its working it should warm up.feel it after a few minutes.when warm the choke opens ....the other 2 things in red circles could be plugged. air poultion stuff..so this engine is in a VW BUG??? good plan....OSF.
  2. Hi Kasper,We do 1 at a time ok? Cold start..does it have a choke? like a flap that will cover carb hole? that should be closed when start cold.it gives more petro to engine. Close alot ,then not so closed ,then open.helps engine get warm. No solden in engine..solden?? don't understand. What coile? is good oil? what weight? I use 20/50 wt.If thats what you wanted to know.. Lot of back fire? out of time? turn distributer a little one way or the other and see if better. keep trying, we will help, just work on english.ok?..be carefull over there,Todd
  3. Well I had a surprize(well kind of) after doing the seals on the front of my daughters E82 engine.Hmmm its still leaking some oil...Its getting on the exaust and stinking.Hmmmm Oh yea there was one seal I didn't do....The rear main seal....So that and the clutch are on the list.I didn't think it would leak that much but it does. So if your doing the oil seals don't forget to plan on the rear main..I did. Hey ,Good things take time....Right? C ya,todd
  4. Very nice brat .I like the canopy.Very sporty..and I mean that in a good way..Were you wondering if it was "Hot" ,being the ing. was all messed up?.Anyway Yesterday i was talking about heating the back end of my brat.Well to look at it might seem extream but I do believe in "Fuction before Fashion" I should start a new show"Extream Warmth" and what men will do to achieve it !!! So here it is.What i like is when its not needed it will take 5 minutes to put everything back "as is".Well except for the hole in the back wall, but thats easy to cover.. So I am happy with it.nothing worse than a damp sleeping area....I even thought with some string and some "thinking outside the box" I should probley be able to start it in the am from the back..HaHaha.so thats my on the road with my Subaru idea....Happy trails, todd hmmm thought I had the picture thing down...well not yet,[/img] so i thought you might need a close up haha.hey i'm trying ok?
  5. That dosn't look too bad.My E82 was drippin oil all over.It was blowing back on to the exaust... It was a mess.So i replaced the main crank oil seal, the 2 cam seals ,I re did the oil pump and replaced the valve covers. Now i was told that the valve cover bolts were too long from the start. So when they tightened them down they would bottom out before they were all the way tight,so you are spossed to put a extra flat washer on each bolt so you will be sure they are tight enough...anyone heard that? Oh and you can try n just tightening the oil pan bolts or go the whole 9 yards and jack up the engin, drop the exaust and replace the pan gasket.. But its all doable,After the oil pump is resealed that will help soften the tic,tic tic.Check out some of Miles Foxes video's, He covers all what i was talkin about.Have fun ,Take your time.and smile when you think of all the money your saving doing it your self !! c ya todd:banana:
  6. I replaced the drivers seat of my brat with 5"foam rubber.I'm 6'3" and I think its great. Good for long drives as well.i was changing out the drivers seat and something came up and I needed to drive to the store quick.Being compulsive as I am I grabed some old sofa cushions and threw them in and away I went.Hmmm not to bad.i like sittin low and it made me feel like a little kid or some kind of Low Rider..haha So i went home and got out the electric carving knife and cut them all to fit and covered it with a wool blankit and I like it, very comfortable.....Tommorow i'll show how I made a heater for the bed of the brat.My road rig...I have a canopy I sleep in (so wish i had a tall one) and I was trying to figure how to warm it up back there.I concidered everything from a small radiator, water and electric, to removing the back wall and just open up the whole show...But what i decieded on was I made a adapter from a 4" 90degree elbow that I hooked up to the heater. On the passenger side down by your left foot I removed the black plastic thing that goes from the heater to the bottom of the windshield. The defrost tube.i guess. With some tin snips I made the elbow fit the air exit on the heater. From there I used some 4 inch aluminum tubeing and snaked it in between the seats and through the back wall...Function before fashion !! It works great and when It not needed ,no big deal. All can go back as is ,other than covering the hole in the back..My plan is too ,say 1/2 before i stop for the night, just turn on the fan and just BLAST it out...should be nice n toasty for awhile.Enough to bed down and hope it sunny in the morning.haha.C ya tommorow with some pic's.Oh and by the way I too have put soooooo many miles on my subarus and vote them the best road car made as for as reliabily and just plane tuff and overall COOL !!!.They do look kind of puzzled when you walk into a parts store in Southern Calif and say you want parts for my"Brat"haha ,Just don't be in a hurry,They might have to order parts..C ya,Todd
  7. Jumping a overcharging battery is playing with dynamite..The fumes from a charging battery is explosive !!Fumes from a overcharged battery is SCARY !!..I have not seen it but i have heard the storys and know there true..... so just be super carefull with any kind of spark around them.I always turn my head when I hook up to a battery..Just out of habbit ,After my cousin had one blow up right in his face.Temporyly blinded him and bad face rash..It was bad...so be carefull... they will EXPLODE !!!!Live to be old...Cause you'll get there and wish you would have .....haha,Todd
  8. OK sounds doable....I got my belt kit today from PCI, 68 bucks...compared to napas 260 and auto z 225.....Every wright up I read about PCI says they are good so i'm going for it..But when I got my kit in there is instructions... They say that even one drop of anti freeze ruins the belt and to throw it away and buy a new one ?? true/false ??,They said ANY chemical will ruin the belt,oil,soap,anything... and they say that they should be inspected at 25,000 miles and "Don't skip this". hmmmm??? Well I'm just hope they last like the ones I got from Napa last time.I got 58,000 miles out of them.. How many miles have you got w/ PCI belt kits?? Anyway for the money ,even if it only last 30,000 miles I'm still money ahead buying from these guys...So Happy Subaruing...Todd,OSF Oh PS,It says on the belts "Made In The USA" and on the box "Made in Bearings/Korea" ??..North?? haha
  9. I have worked on cars for over 45 years(Man am I that old?) and untill I met a Subaru I had never seen a car or truck OVERCHARGE...They would just stop charging.Kind of nice with a subie,If your in a jam you can turn on everything ,rear defrost, heater fan ect and make it home. When they quit charging you were screwed.Just hope your battery had enough juice to get ya home and if its dark....forget it !!...You kids have it soooooooo easy !! HaHa,,Todd
  10. So I too am doing new belts as soon as i get them from Yakima. In the mean time i put some used belts on it (1987 GL wagon) just so i could move it around. I just put the used belts on and slowley loosened (as it was under pressure)the tenisioner and before tightening it I checked it like i was taught to do with fan belts. There was 1/2" play in the belt when I pushed down on the top side..Is that even close to doing it right??.i have heard many ways to set the belts. When I started messing w/ timing belts years back i took a cam sprocket and welded a 3/8" socket to it so I could do the back pressure toque thing. It seemed to not do much so I started to just wing it and turn the sprocket back some by hand and hope for the best...So... whats the BEST way to set the belt tention? i'm all ears. Thanks Todd
  11. Have you physically checked for water in the tank? start after it has sat over night so the water and gas can separate.I just loosen the drain plug so it has a steady drip into a glass jar. If there is water in the tank it will come out first. If there is, just keep letting it drip till gas starts coming out...If there is too much water in the tank dry-gas can't do it all...I doubt its the dist, thats usually all or nothing...Keep trying,It will turn out to be something easy i bet.....todd
  12. I have seen the same thing..Take the hose off again and clean the inside of the hose and the shank you put the hose on.Sometimes a stick or something get under the hose making a place to leak....I think thats why a mechanics can charge so much.Something as easy as puttin on a hose can go wierd ,causing a leak and needs a re do....Now even when you get the leak stopped you still need to figure out you heating problem.Cold over there right??? Could it be a junk thermastat??Sometimes they are bad right out of the box..You can test it in a pan of water on the stove, making sure it opens...hang on...Todd
  13. My "Thrasher" must be a DL.It does have a rectangle sun roof, not T Tops...and no guages or tacometer,no carpet ,just rubber mats. A plain Jane..
  14. Oh the GL 10's usually have electronic speedo and guages as well..
  15. Ya sure we do...The resistor is on the bottom of the blower moter.Take of all the plastic flashing from around the passengers feet. There's probley a shelf and one more piece of flashing.Once you open everything up you will see a accordian sort of deal that hooked the blower to the heater itself. Now on the borrom of the blower there should be the resistor held in with 3 screws and a plug in.Is the resistor you speak of have 3 wire loops in it? The one am discribing does....Hope this is helpful. If not let me know And If not me someone will have the answer.Take care n stay warm,Todd PS did you check the fuses? and sometimes things get stuck in the fan.Take of the accordian thing off and have a look inside, might need a mirror.. anyway we'll get it figured out
  16. They did add a 3rd brake light and that takes some time gettin used too haha. Go for it, last of the pushrod engines.. they just added another year to the title all the way to 89..."Carry over cars" is what I have been told they call them.Same goes for the brats.Unsold 1984 brats became a 1985 brat and the unsold 1985's became 1986...all the way to 1989.I once was so sycked up cause i was going to look at a 1987 Brat.I was just trying to invision what it would look like....(hey this way years ago...) I was bumbed when there was no difference...Still a good brat though.. OSF
  17. The vacuum lines just hook up to the manifold..as to that other thing I'll go check it out and get back to ya..have fun.snowing over there? we just have fog..
  18. Boy ,Your talking about duel carbs right?I never had any problems with low end tourqe. If you want I can take some pictures of my set up and you could fab things together..Don't give up. We can start a gang..haha the duel stack club or somethin.....let me know, todd the OSF
  19. Hey 88,thanks for the back up..haha looks like you have been playin with subarus for some time too..great cars.. C ya,todd

  20. Well I was told by Loyale 2.7 that all carberated fuel pumps only put out 3psi max. so mine should be fine. Thanks 2.7 !!...I got it all tuned in and the fast idle for cold weather works good, not to fast ..just right. Her car is a DL so theres no tac.I had to set it the old fasion way.. and using a vacuume guage helped alot..C ya,OSF
  21. Good job on the carb!! I grew up on old one barreled jobs that were about as complacated as a weber.I tryed a few times to rebuild a hitichie sp? and never got it right.Threw it out and put on a good used one. So my hats off to ya..Do you have a vacuume guage? there great for dialing in your engine.i have one mounted on my dash.Driving with the most vacuume gives you the best MPG...A provin fact...(I think) Anyway don't push it too far and have fun with it..Todd
  22. Those speedo hook ups can be tricky. There plastic and can get messed up easy.Take it slow and steady, hope once you get it hooked up your ok..Otherwise.??....I had a brat w/broken speedo.Chased everything down and found something was broken in the tranny...hmmmmm?? Boy, this sure is gettin involved???....??? So modern technology to the rescue !!! I got a Tom-Tom GPS thing ($50) my neighbor told me about...Stuck it on windshield,Plugged it in and Presto !!! Down on the lower righthand corner is your speed.....And it does 10,000 other things too!!So my speedometer problem is over.... Any way I thought it was a good fix, sure saved some cash and time...Its also good for checkin out your speed with bigger tires. No more trying to calibrate your speed UGGG ......So keep at it, you'll get it...OSF
  23. Yes keep it up.It just gets better and you did it all your self...Think of the cash you saved.....So I just put a new weber on my wifes 88 Dl wagon. The install info mentioned fuel pressure 3 PSI MAX.. 2 psi good...now its been years since I checked fuel pump pressure with a vacuume guage,A vacuume guage??? Yes.. the opposite of a vacuum guage is a fuel pump pressure guage. So has anyone ever checked there pump's pressure or put a fuel pressure regulator??? I thought lighter pressure might give better MPG...mabey??? so anyone adjusted there pressure??? thanks,Todd OSF
