  1. AAMCO is the worst. I just bought a 96 Legacy sedan that AAMCO had supposedly replaced the clutch and all associated bearings within 6 months of my purchasing the car. I noticed a throw out bearing noise while driving it to my mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. While they were inspecting the car I called the owner and asked her who had replaced the clutch and how long ago. She told me the receipt was in the glove box. When I looked at the receipt I was shocked. They charged her $2000.00 parts and labor plus resurfacing the flywheel. On the receipt it stated that there was a throw out bearing noise and that the parts warranty was only 90 days due to the noise. I suspect that they did not even replace all the parts and saw that it was a young female bringing the car in. Thus they decided to make some money. I had the same job done, plus had the rear main and the rear baffle plate thingy (yes that is the technical term) resealed, ball joint replaced (with my part), and new gear oil done for around $550.00. I know that price isn't the best or the worst but I trust the people doing the work. Heck I worked there for 4 1/2 years, I was not a tech though, just a service writer. Sorry for the long rant, I know it has all been said before. I just hate to see people going to AAMCO.
  2. I don't mean to jack your thread but I have to ask. Does my 2004 WRX have a replaceable PCV valve. I went to my local dealership parts counter and they said that my model year does not have one. I have not researched it further so I haven't found anyone saying anything different. I am just not quite sure they were looking things up correctly. Thank you.
  3. porcupine73 is correct, it is just a friction modifier. I have seen cars run very well for 100k miles after having this done. I have never seen any problems come from it.
  4. Carr Subaru in Beaverton, Or. has new Outbacks posted for anywhere from $21,000 to $24,000, just depends on what options you want. The 2.5i basic will be at the lower end and the regular 2.5i will be closer to the $24k, but then you get the heated seats, trip computer and what not. To get the 2.5i Limited you will be closer to $27,000. Used WRX's range from $13,000 on up, just depends on the year and the title. You can get the 2.2 in the legacy up to 1999 and in the impreza up to 2001. I know you are not anywhere near Carr Subaru, but there has to be somebody in your neck of the woods that would have similar prices, maybe even better. Hope this helps, if I am incorrect in any of my information please correct me. I will then update my post to say the same thing and tell you "that's what said in the first post".
  5. I have used Trans-X limited slip diff. additive many times. Works all the time. Get the one in the tube not in the can. Just pour it in the transmission dip stick tube and drive around for a few minutes then do some figure 8's. It's probably very similar to the stuff STRANGELUCK65 was talking about but it may be easier to come by for you. We always bought ours at Carquest but any parts house should have it.
  6. Thanks 970subaru, I think I will try to find a used set of Outback suspension and give it a shot. I will probably want to go taller later on but that will do for now, plus the cash flow situation will keep me from doing anything too crazy.
  7. Sorry for the stupid noob question but I have to ask. I recently bought a 96 Legacy L sedan 5spd and want to lift it up to stock Outback (maybe higher later on). Do I have to find Outback sedan struts or will the wagon struts work? What all do I have to change? I am not looking at doing any major offroading, I just wanted some extra clearance for snow and rally-x. Thank you for your time and patience. Todd
  8. 7 in my group including one 2 year old future Subaru owner.
