  1. I'm guessing your transmission isn't in neutral or froze caliper.
  2. That's the hill holder clutch cable. When the cable is good and if the unit is in good working order you press in on the clutch all the way and press the brake to turn your clutch pedal into a hill holder. Once you release the clutch the hill holder goes off.
  3. I had a set of the plastic ones on a 85 gl-10 that i parted out that was fully load even with rx interior.
  4. It broke from the bad angle it was put at because of the lift and not being modded to accommodate the difference in geometry.
  5. Yes but a huge down grade. Going from a 5 speed to a 4 speed. Not even worth the effort to do it.
  6. Buy a adjustable fuel pressure regulator from the auto parts store or ebay. I would cut out the stock regulator if i were you and put a hose in it's place. Then put the regulator inline somewhere between the fuel filter and inlet rail on the intake.
  7. If you want that just get a 5 speed 2wd trans with a lsd carrier. A 4wd trans stays in 2wd until put into 4wd. While a awd is driven by all 4 but has a limited slip carrier so it doesn't locked up on dry pavement.
  8. AWD was introduced to the us with the rx in 87 with the 5 speed d/r with center diff lock and rear lsd. Some of the gl-10's were awd with only the diff lock, not sure if any came with the awd d/r. Some awd have a front lsd carrier and a open rear. While others have a open front and lsd rear.
  9. They're not rare they're just hard to find in the states where they salt the roads and all the cars are gone. The ford ranger is almost none existent back in those states and they made millions of them. There is three d/r's in the pick n pull off foster in Portland OR. I see them all the time where i live most of the time in lifted rigs. The only trans here that's rare is the ej d/r and the rx awd d/r.
  10. Locks the center diff into 4wd and once unlocked it goes back into awd.
  11. Yes 4 and 5 speed d/r's are designed to be driven in 4wd. If you find a 87 and up rx transmission you could have awd with center diff lock (not sure if you got the awd d/r version) and a rear lsd. Newer awd's but it's best to just gen a new one http://subaru lsd.
  12. If I understood good: The s/r has a push button on the gear lever to select the AWD mode. The s/r is a push buton 4wd 5 speed. So it's main drive is fwd but when you push in the clutch and push the button its in 4wd. They're found on loyales and dls in the states with a 3.9 final drive ratio. Some turbo gl-10's came with s/r push buttons but were 3.7 . The d/r has some lever to select the 4WD mode. This lever is located in the front of the gear selection lever,as on the 1st generation 4WDs ??? It's located behind the gear shift in the car but could easily be modded to work where ever In which models I could find D/R 5speed systems????? gl's 85-88, gl-10's 85-87, and early rx's 85-86. The turbo cars had a final drive of 3.7 while non turbos had 3.9 Is it possible to use the 5speed D/R 4WD gearbox as FWD ???? It's a fwd trans until put into 4wd where power is given to the tail shaft to give partial power to the rear wheels. You think that the 5 speed D/R gear graduation is ideal for gravel road rallies(competition use)???? If you put in a lsd in the front or rear and put on a rear disks setup for a e-brake. That way you could drift corners. Is it possible to see the gear ratios of the two ranges of the D/R 5speed gearboxes???? Have know idea but have seen a chart on a google before The gearbox codes of the D/R 5speed gearboxes? I would have to look at mine to know for sure. The D/R 5speed gearboxes are top starter type??? Side starter.
  13. You could do it with blocks and be fine. It would need to be braced with something on the unibody and welded on. Even if you have to cut out part of the inner fender who cares it's a wheeler. But i kind of agree with you. By that time i would just put a frame under it with solid axles
  14. Depending on how big of a lift you could angle the strut tower blocks at a angle going forward plus the offset of the block for correct stock geometry. Same concept for the rear but you would want to angle it back a little since when lifted the tires want to rub on the front of the rear wheel well. I don't know how much that would change steering though since your wheel base would be a couple inches longer.
  15. You need the pvc valve, brake booster, valve covers, blower motor, vacuum advance for the distributor, fuel in and return. Basically delete all this crap If you choose to keep a egr get one with a single port.
  16. I have no idea. I usually make my own stuff since exhaust shops are expensive.
  17. You get a set for more travel, lowering, lifting, or just replacing? When i lifted my hatch i found 4wd f-350 would work great for a 6" lift. I pressed out the bar pin from the old shock along with the lower metal bushing. Then greased them up and pressed them into the new shocks.
  18. You don't have to get rid of the egr but you can if you want. Really depends if you have to pass emissions or not. You need to rework the y-pipe you have or make a new one when you take the spacers out.
  19. If you don't have any of the exhaust recirculation stuff or if you want to delete them have the exhaust flanges made to just bolt to the heads. The turbo headers just bolt to the heads and the y-pipes do on the non catalyst cars.
  20. I have one of the 90 amp flux units and it sucks(had to get it replaced twice). I bought a little 110v Lincoln mig thats about 30 years old so it still as infinite heat and feed controls. Works amazingly well on sheet metal and larger stuff up to 3/8. Just have to go slow and mover around where your welding at so the metal doesn't warp. I got by with using the harbor freight welder for awhile but will never go back to it.
  21. What type of welder do you have. The metal is thin enough you need a mig, flux core, or a tig.
  22. If you were set on a ea71 you could get a fat case ea71 off a later year and bolt a 5 speed d/r to it.
  23. Both transmissions are front wheel drive until you put them in 4wd. As for models it really depends on what country you live in.`In the USA d/r's came in 4wd gl's and gl-10's while dl's and loyale's had the single rangle push button. The rx's had a 5 speed awd transmission with center diff lock and lsd rear end factory. I've heard some of the gl-10's came awd too but only had the center diff lock but haven't seen one yet that wasn't auto. The d/r is really nice for off road use but if your planning not to go off road the single range is fine. I have driven a 4 speed s/r, 4 speed d/r's, 5 s/r's, and 5 d/r's. My choice is the 5 speed d/r, the trans has less problems than the 4 speeds and has better gear selection. I don't know the individual ratio's but 4wd low is really nice to have if you ever need it.
