CA DMV Historical Plate for 78 Brat
turbosubarubrat replied to spicypeanut's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Not if you only want to drive it in parades, historical exhibitions, or historical club activities. According to the dmv form for special license plates. -
Just Bought A Gem: 1985 Subaru DL Wagon
turbosubarubrat replied to stoogesman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That is because of vacuum advance. When the car is cold the distributor advances (2000-2500) so the motor doesn't die. while it warms up the advance goes off dropping the rpm back to idle. Which also can be achieved faster by a tap of the pedal if the advance doesn't go off when it should. Idle should be around 750 and it sounds like your choke is set right if it's starting up good. From what you said the engine sounds like it's running like it should. -

Swapped GL-10 issues
turbosubarubrat replied to mike a's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What type of surface are you trying to get it out of 4wd on? Pavement, gravel, grass, dirt, ect. If on pavement the gears are bound up and that's why your having problems. If it won't come out of 4wd try jacking it up and spin the wheels by hand then see if the lever will go into neutral or go into something soft like mud/dirt while moving try pushing the lever down hard. I have one rig that goes out of 4wd high really hard where it makes a hard thud going into neutral. It has to be moving while i do this out it won't come out of 4wd at all. Another thought is you could have a d/r awd trans with diff lock. The air vent on the dash should be closed since that just lets air from out side come in. The heater core sounds like it's shot or plugged or the heater cables need adjusted. -

ea81 turbo removal ?s
turbosubarubrat replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I used a transmission cooler hose that since it's strong enough it doesn't kink and it is meant for oil. Works good i used it on both the ea81t's i had. I was confused on what you meant before i guess. -

This should help http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/71510-ideas-on-swaping-a-weber-carb-on-ea82%C2%B4s/ . It is a bolt on swap with adapter plate and some new hoses. -

That's for a 2nd gen ea81 carb. If a carb kit cost that much i would just buy a weber 32/36 off craigslist since they're a lot simpler. I can get the carb kits for $20-30 at the part store so that price seems ridiculous. -

Go to johns subaru junkyard in Gaston hes super close to you since your only in McMinnville. He has everything from the 70's up to now so he most likely has the parts to keep it a turbo. If you don't want to go that route he has mpfi to make everything fit right. -
All the 4wd 3 at's i've seen have had a 3.7 rear end from the 2nd gens to a 94 loyale.

ea81 turbo removal ?s
turbosubarubrat replied to subiemech85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I use the factory metal hose. You could essentially use a brake line that is bent to fit right and have the right size flanges. I thought i lost one of mine since all the parts for the motor came in the back of the wagon so i went to subaru in Gresham, OR to order a new one. The parts guy found the part number after searching for awhile but said the part would take 3 months to get to USA since it had to be shipped from Japan on a boat. -
Lots of info out there just takes lots of research. They started putting lsd's in 3 gen's back in 85 in the factory. They bolt right in to both gens of brats. Cars that have them in either 3.7 or 3.9: Gl-10, loyale turbo, rx, xt6, xt turbo, super sport legacy's from 89-94 with 5 speeds have a 3.9 lsd or vlsd, some wrx's have a 3.9 ratio on the tranmission but i haven't found a reliable source to tell whether the rear diff is 3.54 or 3.9, also some of the datsun z cars came the a rear lsd that is the same as a subaru that will bolt in with stub swap. Vlsd's are a sealed unit so they can't be repaired once they're used up but lsd's that are the clutch type can be rebuilt. All these diffs bolt straight up you might have to change the diffs stubs or make custom axels.

1984 subaru brat project($200 score)
turbosubarubrat replied to turbosubarubrat's topic in Members Rides
She runs and drives now as of yesterday . Got her running on thursday but idle at 4-5k . After some throttle adjustments and float level adjustment idles at about 1300. Running good enough for me to run her out of hiding and steam clean the engine and bay (don't worry i had a plastic bag covering the carb with zip ties so no water got in). Just a short run since no radiator for the time being since there is no where to put one. Modified linkage, cable, and holder for the weber dfav. Which works great since you don't have to worry about the choke being in the way of the distributor cap like on my hatchback. New fuel lines and filter.- 15 replies

turbosubarubrat replied to sonicpops's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Question about parts could be better answered knowing where you live. For 4wd d/r push in the clutch while going a slow speed/stop and pull the lever into 4wd high or low. It's the same for push button 4wd but you have to push the button to go into 4wd high. -
Hello from a 92 Loyale owner
turbosubarubrat replied to th317erd's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
It has a throttle body with one injector in it. And it does have a ignition module in the distributor. How are the battery cables? i Had one where it had a bad ground connection when it got hot and would die. -
