It can be done quite a few members on here have put turbos on their ea71 and ea81 motors. Get a factory dual carb intake and see what you can do with a turbo on it http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/131650-dual-carb-ea-81-build/?hl=%2Bea81+%2Bturbo+%2Bcarb&do=findComment&comment=1123215. The ea81t with factory mpfi have good power for a 1.8 even with the 3 speed auto behind it but it would be awesome to put a d/r 5 speed behind it. If i ever find a turbo brat or coupe im going to do it since it would be super fun to drive around and just cruse around in.

I copy the image URL of each picture and post them one at a time off face book, and they work.

85 brat before minus roll bar, drivers fender, and rear seats(don't have a good pic the day i got my first car and subaru) . Got it when the clutch was so bad it would move anymore. No afters until i have her back together and pretty from the restore. 78 brat sat since before 03 and haven't really done anything with it besides put it inside. 78 brat has sat since before 97. Got it running the day after we got it with a battery and new gas. No after but plan on changing that this summer. 78 brat sat since 96/97 and hadn't been titled since then. Only before on this but plan on a restore on this guy since he is super straight and rust free. 83 turbo wagon has sat before 04 with blown head gaskets and had the motor sitting in a tub in the back. Saved from the scrap yard. before After is still in the process but it's close 83 turbo wagon sat since 04 before i got it back up and running again. Before After 86 hatch before. It started getting parted out before i bought it and once i got all the need parts needed for it to run it was only going on 3 cylinders. So i swapped a spare motor and have been using it as a farm rig for the time being. After and still more coming 84 brat before and no after yet since it needs part of the front clip. Saved from the scrap yard for $200. -

ea82 and loyale questions
turbosubarubrat replied to subafoon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
1.) really depends on how much you fill like spending some guys do the gasket slap, others use sand paper and a flat surface to get to the right tolerances, i just get the heads pressure check since some leak and get them machined/rebuilt especially if they have cracks in between the valves (very common and if they don't leak run them). You can go to a machine shop and get their opinion too since a lot of the small shops are honest and want your business to come back. 2.)Thats right. 3.) Use a no ac alt. bracket. 4.) Factory rebooted if it isn't worn out. -
Don't have a pic of it right now but when hes working on something with the shop door open i will get a pic of it some time.

manual window regulators: what fits what?
turbosubarubrat replied to suprjohn's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sedans are the same. http://www.subarupartsamerica.com/parts/1987/SUBARU/GL/Base/?siteid=216122&vehicleid=45720§ion=BODY%20HARDWARE&group=DOOR -
Picked up what was said to be 3.9 LSD or VLSD out of a legacy ss sedan yesterday for $100. This is what it looks like after I steam power washed it. Same splines on stubs which is 23 and same bolt pattern for drive line plus it's going to bolt in directly once it gets oil. Edit: I opened it and it turns out it's a open diff . When i get a LSD carrier i'm going to use this diff though.

No frame its uni-body, so all panels are spot welded and seamed together to make it frame-less. Could get some of the stuff toward the bottom to come somewhat back to shape with a come along and two heavy things that wont move.

82 Brat Carter-Weber Carb
turbosubarubrat replied to Edkrk2's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The rebuild kit for the hitachi's are $20-30 at the auto parts stores. -
They don't have frames they're unibody. You either bent the torsion bar or the tabs that hold the drums on or the diff mustache bar/mounts. If you didn't tweek the unibody you should be good getting the parts you bent off any 2nd gen 4wd car.

The angle isn't as much as it looks in the picture(above a 90 with a bigger opening because of how it was cut). Since a regular bender can't bend exhaust pipe without kinking it or distorting it when you cap it on both ends and fill it with sand. I just got a piece of pipe and cut it up to make the bend. I did the exhaust like this for when i build it into my wheeler which will have a 6+ inch lift so i dont have to worry about hitting the y-pipe and i can build a better skid plate. It will probably change once i get it lifted since i will have more room to put on a good curved bend. Surprisingly it hasn't lost any horses if anything it gained a few to make it more pepy.

Decided to put the turbo pipe on.

1985 2WD GL parts for/on a 1983 Brat ?
turbosubarubrat replied to Subaruist's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
If its a 2 door hatchback like mine the doors fit you just swap glass to brat glass, all interior from doors forward is the same, all the body is the same from doors up besides bumper which mounts different on 2wd models, motor will be the same, fuel pump will be the same just mounted in a different spot than a brat. Gen 1 came as Brat(truck), coupe, sedan, and wagon all in 4wd and 2wd also gl/dl. They came with a ea71 1.6l except for in 81 some first gen brats came with a 2nd gen drive train a ea81 with dual range 4wd transmission. 2nd gens came as brats(81-87), wagons(80-84), sedans(80-84), coupes(80-84), and hatchbacks(80-88). They came with ea71 in early production then came with the ea81 1.8l motor. In 83-84 they had the turbo model introduced the ea81t with had 5 different transmissions 4 speed manual with dual range 4wd, then 4 speed with single range 4wd, 3 speed auto 4wd, 3 speed 2wd, and 5 manual speed 2wd . 3rd gens came with a ea82 or ea82t 1.8l motors. If i got this all right they had 9 or 10 different transmissions a manual 5 speed dual range 4wd, 5 speed single range push button 4wd, 5 speed 2wd, 5 speed dual range awd, 5 speed single range awd, 3/maybe 4 speed auto awd single range, 3 speed 4wd, 4 speed 4wd, 4 speed 2wd. -
1985 2WD GL parts for/on a 1983 Brat ?
turbosubarubrat replied to Subaruist's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Need a pic of what your taking parts off of because it could be either a 2nd or 3rd gen which is a huge difference. -
When a couple of mine broke i just used transmission or turbo hose since they are lot stronger and come in the right size. For the plastic piece i just bought a regular 90 degree elbow.

ever disected EA82 NA Y pipe ?
turbosubarubrat replied to jono's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Any body else have a cat-less ea82 y-pipe . I would just get one of them if i where you and put a cat on the second piece of pipe(right after y-pipe) so it so it doesn't bake oil as it drips like the ea82 likes to or plastic and rubber parts close to it. -
Brat console in a wagon?
turbosubarubrat replied to mfa_mad_pig's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is the one piece style console both in manual/auto Then there is this 2 piece console manual and auto(which i couldn't find a pic of) and the rare slant console -
Hope to finish her up this summer since i have everything to put her back together now besides new carpet. Picked up a set of rear hubs, a backing plate and a header yesterday. Not sure if i'm going to use the header on her or not yet. Now i have two complete sets of rear disk conversions just in case anything ever goes bad on one of them.
