Was running great yesterday when my dad was driving to the gas staition then once we were done filling up it up it didn't start and no lights showed on the dash so i undid the plugs on the ecm then pluged them back in then gigled a few others and nothing. Then i just started turning the key back and forth and it started up so we started to drive on high way 26 toward gresham going about 50mph then it cut power to the motor, tachometer, head lights, and fuel pump but the fan and heater were still going when we pulled over on the exit to boring at about 8 last night. After that it wouldn't start so my dad left to go get are truck and tow dolly. Took him awhile to get back and it still wouldn't start so we loaded it up and went home. When unloading it today about a hour ago it still wouldn't start so we pull it off with a tractor and i rolled down to where i wanted to work on it. First i wanted to see if the lights would come on the dash and they did! Then i tried to start it and it did with codes 11 and 12 even in neutrol which it never let me do before because it only is supposed to start in park(forgot to put it back into park). Also the rpm gauge only works some of the time. What do you think i need to repare or replace or check?

turbosubarubrat replied to ShagginWagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They had hydro lifters from 83 up but some still had solid lifters for awhile after that. One easy way to know is if the sticker hasn't fallen off yet on the valve covers that says "hydraulic lifters do not adjust" even though you have to adjust them sometimes. -
Should get a windshield installed sometime this week.

Her profile says she has a 91 loyale so it has a ea82. What color is your loyale? I probably have seen it around Sandy before but there are alot of them going around so who knows. A head gasket, valve cover gasket, and intake monifold gakets don't cost a supper amount or take very much time to replace but i get you dont want to replace them. How many miles are on it? Also what all you are you going to be swap into it? There are a couple guys around sandy that have ej swapped so if you need help there are people out there. -
washed(minus mud from driving around), vacumed, trim restored, and cleaned.

Got it running again . When i tried to start it again today it acted like it was going to run then nonthing, so i tried again and the fuel pump relay did nothing this time so i checked the fuse which was part of the problem since it had blown. After that i tried again and the relay did nothing still, so i unbolted the passenger seat to check out the relay. I pull the relays out of the rubber holders with the connecters still on then put them back and she started. It came on with a code 33 idleing at 1300rpm's then going up to 1600rpm's and back down then up then down ect. After that i put in another ecm which brought the idle down to 1000rpm's which slowly went down to 750rpm's and stayed there. At 1000rpm's it had a code 33 but after i drove it on are farm for a while it went to a code 24.

It decided it didn't want to start today , its getting juice back to the fuel pump but i will test the pump as soon as i can i hope its not bad. Its still flashing code 11 and 12 but added 33 which went away on its own some how , also if i pull the ig. coil/fuel fuse out the ecs light goes off so something is wrong with that part of the system which i will start looking. Im taking it's leading to the fuel pump relay under passenger seat. Any chance you know what the relay is close to the fuel pump relay? The fuel pump relay is the one closest to the front passenger door and the other one is a couple inches away from it closer to the console thit is the one im not sure of because i forgot where it goes i just remember there was two relays there.

I will play around with those connectors tomorrow. It seems the ecs light on this ecm goes on and off while its running if you pull the parking break up or press on the brake pedal. It doesn't flash any codes when the ecs light is off so i can't read them but if i just turn the key to the on position it stays on so thats when i read the codes.

The ecs light stays on or off when the engine is running it does different things with different ecms. Sorry i ment terminal #17 on check connector #2 out of the factory subaru manual on chapter 5 page 35. Its the yellow check connector behind the fuse box it should have 17 terminal connectors on it and #17 in the book would actually be #13 if your looking at it in a car.

Had a code 34 but got rid of it some how, but now i have both 11 and 12 on 3 different ecms the voltage at the 18 connector for the ecm is 0.02 so that is part of the problem. So what should i check for? A bad gound, bad connection, damaged wire, or?

Rot repair sheetmetal
turbosubarubrat replied to Uberoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I have a friend that was a autobody man and he says its better just to cut out all the rust even a couple inches past to prevent the rust from reapearing a year or so later. -
I think it has a code 34, but will double check tomorrow using my camera so i can watch it slowly to aviod miss reading the code. That doesn't mean they never need to be adjusted. The sticker is put that on there as a warning so people read up on how to do it if it has to be done so there isn't engine damage. Plus why would they make it so you can adjust it and give you the measurements and procedures to adjust it in the factory subaru manual?

This might be a dumb question but what does LED stand for and how do i check it?

Ever since i got my wagon running last weekend the ecs light has been on, so what should i check or replace? First thing i can think of is the o2/oxygen sensor. Runs great for sitting since 05 minus a lifter tick that will be adjusted when i change the oil.

No Horn/Hazards/Clock- Blows Fuse. Ea81
turbosubarubrat replied to Skylar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
When i changed the ignition on my brat i just left off the chime wire since it drives me insain. Plus the lock smith i got the ignition switch from said he put a ignition in once for somebody at their house and he didn't get the wire in correctly so it shorted the car out making it so it didn't run which is why it was brought to nissan. Basicly check everything that is hooked up to the fuse. It could be 2 wires crossed causing a short or a electrical part like the horn or hazard switch shorting out that needs replaced. Has the fuse beem blown the whole time you have had the hatch -
Went to start it this morning and it would only crank, so i tested the pump and it was bad again. After finding that out i did some research about what would work on it so i went to the junk yard and got a pump off a fuel injected f-150 or f-250 with dual tanks. When i got back home i took the cover off the pump and it turns out i got a bosch fuel pump that is almost new so i saver over $100 and only spent $15 on it. I had to rewire it which looks factory but the hoses dont because i had to put a 90 degree joint and a adaptor on.

ea81 fuel cell
turbosubarubrat replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You better get some suspension parts off a truck thats bigger than a 1 ton plus a custom frame because your going to reck the lift that you bought and break and bend alot of stuff. Another thing to consider is will it tip over on a sharp turn? A better option would be putting the tank on a trailer and hauling it that way. -

you sure the roof can handle that much? according to google 1 gallon of gas is eqaul to 5.8-6.5 ibs so it would wiegh between 275 gallons x 5.8 ibs=1595 pounds to 275 gallons x 6.5 ibs=1787.5 pounds. Which weighs aproximently 3/4 of your car in gas.
