  1. it has a short or two wires crossed if its doing that so you will have to look around to see if anything seems ovious and go from there.
  2. I dont even bother using the oil pan gasket since they always seem to start to leak after a while then get progressively worse, so i just use rtv by putting two coats on the two mating surfaces which holds up a lot better.
  3. My previous comment was a little premature since it turned out the ignition wire was turned in the wrong spot probably because the key was turned half way in the car i got it out of so it still lined up for everything to fit. I still got another ignition switch though which i will not be using but i will keep it anyway since there discontinued. ALSO GOT IT RUNNING TODAY . After i cranked on it for a little bit and it didn't start so i went to see if it had fuel pressure which it didn't. Next step was hooking the pump up direct to the battery which did not do anything while i was down there i checked voltage from the fuel pump wires on the car and it was good, so i took the pump off my other turbo wagon then put it on and with a few pumps of the gas pedle and a about 2 seconds of cranking itstared with no problems
  4. 80 grit leaves some deep scratches in the metal so i use 120 grit. Harbor freight has these packs so you can find the one you like the best, theres this one http://www.harborfreight.com/10-piece-4-1-2-half-inch-grinding-and-cutting-wheel-assortment-47572.html and this one http://www.harborfreight.com/10-piece-4-inch-grinding-and-cutting-wheel-assortment-47571.html.
  5. Probably not the main problem but the MAF sensor could be dirty so MAF sensor cleaner could help out a lot since that contols the air/fluel mixture. The sensor is where the air cleaner is at, if i remember right you have to take the boot off right next to it and spray at the sensor inside the air cleaner box. I kind of fill your pain with this since i just had to take the dash with the wiring harness out of one of my 83 turbo wagons and do some rewiring to it since the digi-dash shorted out when the previous owner drove it which caught on fire. The tachometer, ecm, plastic pieces were replaced and some rewiring was done by him but it wasn't running which is why i have it now. Hopefully i get it running this coming saterday or sunday since i've done a bunch of wiring to it by replacing melted plugs, fixxing melted wires, and replacing bad electical components like the ignition ignition plug wires.
  6. Pissed from the fact i finished putting the harness in this after noon and the rest of the electrical stuff to get it running then through a battery in and put the key the ignition and it only turns half way . I will take the ignition wire off tomorrow to see if its in wrong or if it was turned half way or something but if not im going to get a new ignition switch from the lock smith if he still has one.
  7. I did a little bit of stuff today to it and got a few parts at the junk yard. Rerouted the wire for the cruse contol to the coil so it goes around the spare tire area with the window washer hose(also melted so replaced it) because it had a open area that could cause problems in the near future. Also fixed some wires that got half way cut through.Took the front bumper off and took off the lights since they both are craked but left wiring. Got the ignition wire and brake switch from the junk yard and put those on since both of those parts got wrecked too. carfreak85, on 28 Sept 2013 - 10:05, said: I dont plan on adding either because i like the look better with out them too. Skylar, on 25 Sept 2013 - 21:41, said: Where are you moving to? If your moving closer i would want them. I don't need a hatch that badly and a 2 and half hour drive one way for a roof rack would cost more in gas than the roof rack. On the other hand im looking for a roof rack for my other one since some one took it off when they took parts off of it.
  8. some where around 18 gauge is what i use or if you have a old dryer/washer use that.
  9. It is. I have another one off a brat if you need one. This thing has almost everything power windows, power steering, cruise control, ac, power mirrors, ect. Only things that would make it have everything are a roof rack, wind deflector which i have, and a factory sun roof.
  10. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/141100-my-2nd-1983-ea81t-turbo-wagon/?do=findComment&comment=1186909 Decided to make a thread and i tore into my other one and found out i need the curcuit board so would you sell me just that?
  11. turbo circuit board(bottom on tachometer) for cluster vs non turbo (on top off tachometer) there the same minus the difference in this corner.
  12. I had been watch this go on and off craigslsit for about a year and decided i wanted it plus to have a visual diagram to put my other turbo wagon back together. It started at $1500 non running and slowly went down to $600 or trade. So i asked the guy what he wanted to trade for which came down to a saxophone and a clarinet. Once that was agreed apon i went down to go pick it up and all the paper work. The orignal owner was a old lady who bought it at Gladstone Subaru she garged it all the time but she is the one who hit a post thats what happened to the bumper, hatch, and tail lights. After that she passed and it sat in the garage for 5 years until the guy i got it from bought it at a garge sale and got it running. Soon after that the digi dash shorted out and caught on fire frying the dash harness, ecm, melting the dash and other plastic parts that the guy since then replaced but it wouldn't run. It only has between 136k-138k orignal miles and all the orignal paperwork. One paper hand written says its 1 out of 4 ever sold in Oregon and 1 out of a thousand ever made. This is where i come in i have taken out the dash and am checking all the connections, putting together the right tachometer, fixing the engine harness, and fixing the body up.
  13. I over estmated it because it was late but factory subaru manual says 238 pounds and that is standard so just with a alternator so it doesn't include the weight of power steering and ac condensor and all the other stuff i was thinking of when giving probably what you would call a max weight of a ea81 i quess im spoiled to be working with the ea81t motors and was thinking more of along those lines instead of a ea81 but aleast you can find good heads for a ea81. It just makes me want to stay with the ea81 in my brat with hopefully a weber carb sometime and keep on rolling.
  14. Thanks, im not in a huge hury for pics since i need to take out the engine harness to see if anything else got melted because the guy tried fixing it in the car but i dout he fixed all the spots that melted the plastic in the wiring like that. I know that it got hot enough to melt the plastic coating off in small spots on the ignition wires (oposite side of where the key goes on the colum) so that is something im replacing since the guy tried to repair it in 7 spots.
  15. I need pictures of the back side of the circuit board to tell you if i need some thing. I need to look closer at the wiring harness but im sure the guy replaced the dash section with a analogue turbo harness from johns subaru junkyard since he has a list of parts in a folder he gave me along with all of the paperwork. Plus he bought the turbo gauge there and i think he bought another dash with a non turbo tachometer from somebody with no cracks and not melted. Im good on parts for now since he replaced a bunch of stuff like the ecm with another turbo one but if i need some thing i will let you know since this stuff is almost impossible to find for a turbo. This 83 turbo wagon hasn't got a thread made for it yet but i might make one it looks almost identical to my other one minus the fact this one has even more options and only has 136k on it with mostly orignal parts.
  16. ea81's weight like 350 pounds(trust me you dont want to pick it up year self), transmission's are around 150, so just there is half the buggies wieght, then theres the rear differential, axels, hubs, suspension, wheels, tires, the frame, gas tank plus fuel, ect. and you. If your going to make it under a 1/2 ton your going to have to be creative and cut down every way you can and use a lot of lite durable materials.
  17. Im trying to figure out if the circuit boards for the analogue tachometers are the same or not. I have the turbo gauge and non-turbo tachometer that came with the car since the previous owner bought those at johns subaru junkyard since the digi-dash was replaced because it shorted and cought on fire also frying some other wires in the harness. The turbo gauge is a direct fit once you take out the oil pressure gauge out and it even has the three holes already made factory for the turbo gauge to mount through the plastic part of the tachometer but the holes are not in the circuit board. I need to know if i can just drill the holes for it or if i can mount it in doing some custom work to get it to work if not i have a feeling im going to put the oil pressure guage back in and track down anymore wiring problems while i have the dash out. Any chance somebody can take a picture of the back of their analogue tachometer so i know what im up against? Any help is welcome and thanks in advance.
  18. Yes they do. But you have to modify them to fit like drill wholes in the brackets or switch bracks to brat ones and then you have to cut 2 chuncks of plastic out. Or you can use a chrome bumper and modify it and use brat end caps.
  19. brat's, coupe's, and hatch back's all have the same doors if there 2nd generation but you have to swap in the brat glass. wagon's and 4 door sedans are too small unelss you like splicing doors together.
  20. i was there from about 8:30 to when they closed the mud pit the first time and said it would open again at 3 it defianly was a interesting experience. All of those wrx's or impreza's sucked in the mud since they kept tearing off the side skirts and bumpers. Seriously who actualy thinks there lowered wrx is going to make it through a foot of mud with street tires if you dont keep there speed up and then decide to floor it digging your self into a hole you can't get out of? Plus some of the guys with wrx's kept on letting on and off on the gas so the turbos where kicking on and off every couple of seconds which will probably kill the turbo not including the fact some of them had blue smoke coming out of the exaust in the end. And who ever had the new impreza 4 door hatch back in rally blue with no tow hooks and no hitch is stupid especialy when then they decided to go in the mud pit and get stuck. The old gens definently kicked some rump roast out there even the stock 3 gen gl with no hood did better than most of the new gens.
  21. i have one and will be going to the show tomorrow morning. any chance you know when the gates open?
  22. Get new tags for another car that will pass smog then do a plate transfer to it.
  23. shipping isn't really bad actually if you ship it on grey hound
