I believe it's an 80+?
turbosubarubrat replied to stewartkb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i've seen them on craigslist but probably typos but maybe not because i dont think people would renew there craigslist post for a month with the wrong year in the title. i think there probably is a few 77's in a musuem, someones driveway, but most of them where probably tested for safty because they where proto-types then -
I believe it's an 80+?
turbosubarubrat replied to stewartkb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
exactly like my dads 79 dl and looks simular to my dads 78 but its a white gl. could be anywhere from a 77(earliest) to about 80. unless it has a 1800cc in there with a dual range which would make it the rare 81 brat. looks fair for how old these are getting im going to say it would be whorth it since people will pay about $300 for that roll bar, $250 for rear seats(cannt tell if it has them in the pics), plus if you parted the rest out you could make quite a little money on it or scrap it for roughly $200. i would definently replace the hood, try to pound those dents out and bondo them, then get a paint job, fix all the problems then enjoy it for years -
77 DL Wagon questions
turbosubarubrat replied to jederick's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
yes you can engine swap but if theres nothing wrong with the engine i would leave it. you can ej(newer subaru engines) it for alot more power. and yes people have converted to 4wd you would need a 4wd transmision and a rear diff with matching ratio numbers plus most the rear end components. -

Mice... Why did it have to be mice
turbosubarubrat replied to Ofeargall's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i hate mice too they are such a pain in the rump roast to clean up there mess and kill all of them all. i have killed around ten in my brat and i think you are going to want to set a couple traps with peanut butter to get rid of them if you haven't already.because they get in every single spot on the car i mean they go in the engine compartment, inside the rockers, anywhere in the dash, over/under carpet, the seats, hell they even get in between the roof skin , and all the stuff they chew on . when you think they are all gone they come back -
went junk yard and i got a sig. lighter, spare third eye, and a brush guard . also got some stuff for the turbo wagon.

went to two junkyards today and i got a spare rear defroster switch, the hard plastic piece that is by the seat belt for the drivers door, and turbo lines. for the brat got a new sigaret lighter(well old but has never been used so is shiny even where the sigaret is put to light), factory radio, spare third eye , and a brush guard . also got a subaru embelm off a 4 door sedan that has the hole for the key to go through thought i can sell. probably going back tomarrow to get a chrome bumper for the brat too.

Where to buy fenders?
turbosubarubrat replied to bratman18's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there is a guy around where i live that has a set but i dont have his number at the moment give O.C.D a pm he bought a set of ea71 fenders from him. this guy has like a thousand fenders from all different makes and models but hes fairly expensive also he has hoods, hatchs, doors, and all types of glasses. -
so should i or shouldn't i?
turbosubarubrat replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
how many miles is on it? i would hesitate if it has quite a few miles on it because the auto's dont last the well unless maintained and treated well. thats why you almost never see the autos because people swap to stick, the cars with autos end up in the junkyard, and they cost more to rebuild thean the car worth in most cases. but sounds like a great car and also sounds well maintained so take it for a drive and see what happens. im in the same boat with my 4wd auto 83 turbo wagon idk if the tranny is any good or not untell i finish hooking stuff up for the engine and put in all new fluids all the way around. -

84 Turbo Wagon, no injector click
turbosubarubrat replied to mgcwrnch's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
is this a ea81t? if it is check above the fuse box and you will find a few. also you should make a build thread like i have for my 83 turbo wagon -
there is a guy down the street from my house that he did a diesil conversion on his trooper and he says it getts a fair ammout of power out of it. he has it lifted and is running bigger than 30's on it with custom differentails(he has his own shop that he runns and does custom grears for diffs, maybe trans gears, lifts, and he makes cases for the diffs.)

ea81t electrical problems
turbosubarubrat replied to turbosubarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
all the problems are fixxed by me going to the junkyard and picking up a factory radio with the shifter cover/radio cover in one with both ends of the connectors and installing it looks a thousand times better than that piece of $h*t that someone put in it that was setting off all the relays. also the radio sounds great -
ea81t electrical problems
turbosubarubrat replied to turbosubarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i did get a distribuator harness off a xt6 turbo at the junk yard if thats what your referring to, and that will work i just need to cut it down to fit right once i get the engine back in maybe tomorrow amazingly alot off the parts on 86 xt6 turbo looked simular including the whole distribuator minus the gear shaft because it was a different length and the maf looked the same. the two distributors that are in that pic are off ea71 engines. -

ea81t electrical problems
turbosubarubrat replied to turbosubarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
like i thought. im going to wait untell the motors back in before i start working on the problems just to see if any of them go away. the major ground is hooked up that goes off the battery and its working because the starter works fine just turnning the key for a second you can hear it going.
