ea81t electrical problems
turbosubarubrat replied to turbosubarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ok i will start with that that starting at the negitve battery cable with a multi-meter going on up to see where it goes weak. im going to use my manual if it starts taking me under the dash . also another thing i forgot to mention is the fuse wires for the ecm is missing or it never had them and a wire for the kick down relay is gone so that might be a pain to fix. i think im going to leave the ecm wiring alone because it doesn't have any of the wiring for it but the kick down relay im a little more worried about because its half there. -

when i mean go off for the relays i mean they buzz. -
my 83 turbo has at least 4 electrical problems right now(it is not a digi dash). this is without the motor in it and a charger on the battery but motor is going in this weekend. 1.)the arrows for turn signals and four way flashers stay on all the time with no blinking but when you turn on the four way flashers or turn signals the arrows flash. 2.)the head lights are very messed up when you turn the switch for low the lights do not got on except for the side corner ones on the bezals. then when you turn it on high no lights and the relay goes off. 3.)when you turn on the heater the relay for that goes off. 4.)the 4wd does not indicate on the dash but i can hear it ingage under the car. the light went on once then slowly faded and now its not coming back on. any help and advice is very appriciated and thank you in advance

yah its going to be a nice ride when done, somebodies going to love it when im done building it . once im done putting it together, getting all the stuff done at dmv, going through deq, getting tags, and driving the thing abit its going up for sale if only it were a 2 door sedan or brat . the only thing it will really need when i let it go will be a paint job, the rear quarter pannel have a little bondo, and the passenger fender bent back to shape at the bottom or get another one.

i saw a silver 2nd gen brat yesterday that had arizona plates in boring oregon and i saw a 1st gen brat in the parking lot at pick'n pull in portland on foster. also saw a coulpe ea82 wagons driving around and i talked to a guy with a red loyale at the pick'n pull that he said he got last month that he works on at clackmas high school.

went to the junkyard in portland and found a harness that will work i just need to do a little re-arranging because it was off a 86 turbo 4wd xt-6. thats all i got but there were 2 other xt's non-turbo, 81 ea81 wagon with power steering and power windows(it had a weird center console with the power controls that was the low stlyle like a brat but was factory), some loyales and gl's.

if it is in fact a 1st gen brush then it will not fit a 2nd gen without modifiction to the brush guard or car. -
i haven't worked on this in a while since i focused more on my 85 brat and my 83 turbo wagon but im going to start working on it again once the wagon is put back together. then the brat gets to turn a different color and get put together and become my dads daily driver

1983 BRAT Automatic?
turbosubarubrat replied to scooter0000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
exactly what i was saying how they could be special ordered. the person in charge at state farm said they had a 83 brat that they special order. -
pics tomarrow. bought a distributor from a board member today for $45 shipped its getting shipped on tuesday so will get to me sometime this week(only coming from washington). i got most of the transmission membrain bolted back on i had to take off the rear part because it was bent. also got the drive line hooked back up. also put on some more bits and pieces to the motor and adjusted the vavle clearance. so now all i need to do is put the valve covers back on and clean up the oil pan then put on rtv for the gasket then its ready to put back in and ready for new fluids which would be oil, anti-freaze/water mix, power stearing fluid, break fluid, and transmission fluid(see what that looks like tomarrow once i drain it:-\). after that stuff im going to put the exaust on and weld it together.

Loyale more trouble than it's worth?
turbosubarubrat replied to GlenSz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
resealing a engine is not hard at all if : #1 you know what your doing #2 have all the tools and equipment to do it #3 have a factory manual for all the specs. #4 ask questions on here also its a good idea to replace hoses and stuff like that, that wear out from age when the engine is out. im resealing a ea81t motor right now and its super easy just time conuming from me cleaning and painting everything:rolleyes: if i where you. i would ask myself do i realy like this car and do i really want to put this much money into it? if you dont like it or dont want to put the money into it sell it and let somebody who does fix it. if your attached to it fix it plain and simple. -
i've got most of the engine back together today:clap:i put the intake back together and put it on which is alot of work considering i wasn't the one who took it apart:eek:. also i cleaned all the bolts up i put on the engine and torqued them to what the manual said. i put 2 solid cement bocks under each wheel which lifted it about 8 inch, man its so much easier to work under it now:headbang:the blocks are roughly 2ftx2ft and are 4 or 3 inches thick.
