i found out that the distributor off a ea71 fits on it correctly but should i use it? it fits perfect without hitting anything and it turns freely with no problems when i turn the engine over with a ratchet. i have 2 types that work for and one that doesnt because the shaft is too long. the 2 that work are a self igniting(no wires)and a electricly controlled one, what one would be better to use?

nice stripes i picked up the same ones on sunday too but for a second gen:cool:i also traded a brush guard for them too.
-
quick update i traded a brush guard with pooparu for a set of white brat stripes:headbang:. i have put the brat out of the way for now, while im putting the wagon back together to either sell or keep i dont know it just depends on how much i like it or how much i dont. it might just turn out to be a winter project and ill let her go to a good home.

yes brats came in auto non turbo's, they had to be ordered from the factory like that though. the dl's didn't come with the t-tops because they where the low line of subaru's, they only came with single range 4 wheel drive, and they had a solid rear window/single mirror (unless ordered or installed from the dealer to have a sliding rear window and a mirror on passengers side). gl's had the t-tops, sliding rear wind, and dual range 4 wheel drive. -
Loyale Towing Capacity?
turbosubarubrat replied to jj421's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
theres a tow hitch in the junk yard in boring oregon on a gl or loyale, they would probably sell it for $20 or less. -
im friends with a guy who owned a old orange subaru back in the 80's (just by the way he described it, it sounded like a old 70's sedan:-\) anyway he got it from a old lady and it started out mint he said it slowly got beat up then he would jump it and have to bend the unibody back in shape with a fork lift. but once he was drunk with a budy and jumped it off a loading dock so they chopped it up in a few pieces into the bed of a truck:eek: probabley would be a good idea to build a frame or subrame to keep it from tweeking or add some support.

Loyale Towing Capacity?
turbosubarubrat replied to jj421's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i would say it depends on how much you like your car and how long you want it to last. i have seen some interesting loads with subies a guy hauling 2 tons of wood with a 2nd gen brat 1 ton in the bed another on a trailer in the dalles, a 1st gen brat hauling a 16ft aluminum boat with 2 motors+gas in newburg, also saw a gl wagon much like yours but lifted and it was hauling rump roast at about 65 going through the passes to tilamook with probably a 16ft trailer. my dad leaves the hauling to are 83 gmc dual extra cab which has a 454 in it with a 4 speed manual trany with 4 speed transfer case which makes us set with all are hauling needs. it hauls are 36 or 32 ft trailer with no problems. -
pic update tomarrow since i finally got my facebook unlocked:horse:i did some more engine cleaning which has got easier since i got my dads engine stand:D i've been taking off brakets and cleaning them up with a bench grinder/wire wheel also with my craftsman drill with wire wheels, then painting them with hi temp gloss black paint. i even used the bench wire wheel to clean the puch rods(i blew out the holes for better oil flow too with the air compressor). also did the tube for the dip stick, power steering resivor, and the tube and cap for pouring in oil.im getting close to putting it back together i just need to clean up and paint the valve covers, alt/ac bracket, oil pan, the alumium thing thats 4wd turbo subaru, intake, some other stuff.

was hoping to do a pick update but my google+ account isn't working right and my facebook was hacked:mad: well anyway went to the junk yard again:grin: and got a muffler that looks like it was just put on, auto starter that had the sticker on it still saying napa premium starter:D, 4 fender emblems, 1 rear subaru gl emblem, 2 oval emblems, 3 sets of hood stoppers, cigaret lighter, gas tank door(chrome one), plastic trim pieces at the end of the rear windows, and some bolts/studs with the price of $35:headbang:so glad i didn't go to napa and buy the starter for $100 but i did get it tested there and it passed.

My 1971 Subaru FF-1 Star (official build)
turbosubarubrat replied to EWSuby's topic in Members Rides
i've seen brats either way whether they got it like factory, dealer, or swapped. i would say the major difference would be how the gas tank lid is facing the wrong way, because that is off one that has the gas tank on the right and this ff-1 tank is on the left. -
How to I clean a gas tank?
turbosubarubrat replied to scooter0000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i just drain all the gas out of the tank. then pressure was it and dump the water out of it and keep doing that untell nothing comes out like black gunk, paint, or rust/metal.(of coarse i let the gas tank sit for like a week to let all the water evaporate) -
you will have to fine tune it once you get it running, because most of the time it will be not be adjusted perfect so it will probably run rough.

got the gasket kit order on wednesday, it comes with everything from the head gaskets out and a little stuff in between. also ordered the rear main because my dad said it looks like it was leaking. so they will be in today and they will also be picked up:D
-
sounds like you just need to figure out a few quirks and its ready to go:headbang: we got the loyale going after it sat 4 years just need to figure out some stuff on it and its ready to sell because it already passed deq(its going to get a dual range in it if the tranny doesn't starting shifting better).

in my dads oppion the cheaper the better on stuff like carb cleaner so we just get the stuff around $5
