i have had people tell me do it both ways. i think the big difference is with the spray you use more elbow grease and it doesn't go every where in the carb you might want. i haven't used the dip but next time i do it i will see how well it works. i have got some pretty good results with the can though you just have to use paper towels/junker towels and q-tips to give it a good cleaning. also use a air compessor with a blow gun to blow stuff out of ports and small stuff.
-
i remember that:banghead:it takes forever to rebuild them (about 5 hours) carb cleaner and q-tips definatly helps a lot

my 83 turbo wagon came from yakima and was said to have been 1 of 3 sold in washington. it also has the mirror in the glove box and the sun visers don't have them and it doesn't looked to be replaced so its factory. also has the wind deflector and will have a roof rack sometime. my dads 78 gl brat came with factory brush guard, high top canopy, high top roll bar(wish i knew it was rare before it was cut down to fit my 85:o), i think the ac is factory but not sure and it has a sun roof not sure about that either. my dads 79 dl brat came with a low profile roll bar. he also had a 85 gl 2wd fuel injected with power everything and it was factory haven't seen another like it because of its crappy fuel injection system. how about them having all four mud flaps? i know a guy with a set of the 14 inch factory steelies that i want i might just have to offer him some cash next time i see him .

i would not say the ea82 is a horrible engine they run forever if you maintain them much like the ea81. my dad has drove with both and there very dependable engines if there well maintained. i would say the ea82t is a horrible engine before i would say it about the ea82 for the head problems the turbos have and the more stuff that can happen to it. the swap really wouldn't be worth it unless you get a ea82 motor thats fuel injected for better mileage, maybe a little more power, and you don't have to rebuild carb's. or you could make the ea81 fuel injected, 1982gl4 is doing the swap right now so you could ask him questions while what hes doing is fresh in his mind.

Broken door handles - Brat GL
turbosubarubrat replied to The Bunknubber's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there is 6 or more ea81 subaru's at the junkyard in boring oregon off 26. the door handles are all the same on the ea81s on the outside. on the inside you will need a hatch, brat, or 2 door sedan. there is 3 hatchbacks there so would be set. my dad has gone there for years so they know hes looking for subies and parts for them. anyway there very fair on prices and can help you if your pulling something big like a motor or tranny. you also could go to pick and pull online and check there inventory. -
Greetings from Portland!

My '79 BRAT Project *Picture Heavy*
turbosubarubrat replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in Members Rides
none of the pics work it says there invalid when you click on them. to make it so you dont have to click on them or for them to work you need to post pics on a site like facebook, google+, photo bucket, ect. then copy the image url from the picture and come back to this site and click on thiswhen making a reply and paste the image url in it and do that for how man pictures you have you can only have 21 pics including smilies per reply though so make more replys for how many pics you have. i saw the add on craigslist nice brat alot of people are jealous for sure. im building a couple brats right now and there a very fun first car i got my 85 when i was 13 so its sticking around for a long time because im still building it:D -
yep its always good to live and learn. im going to double and triple check my 83 turbo wagons hoses when i put it back together which might be soon the head shop said the heads are ready:D
-
i hose clamp every hose besides the very small ones. it pays off in the long run especialy if you have to pay for a tow bill
-
how loose are you putting the clamps on? they should be nice and tight with the rubber plugs. seems like it would be worth just putting jb weld on it if you want a permanent solution. where are the hose clamps made and what material are they made of? the aluminum ones strip out and so do the really cheep ones from china, mexico, japan, ect.
-
my dad called the cylinder head shop and i got some great news:):grin:the heads checked out fine and it turns out neither heads have a leak in other words a deep crack:headbang:so they rebuilt the heads and there ready to go:Dso where going to pick them up friday cost is $240 for everything they did they completely rebuilt the heads($100 per head) and both were pressure checked($20 per head)

i knew i was off but definetly was closer than thinking it was a diesel.(no offense intended to o.c.d)
-
he is saying it is un-accelerating or slowing down. could need a tune up if it hasn't had one in a while other than that idk. is it a auto or a 4speed?

junk yard, some one parting a subaru, or another board member. they do not make them anymore and the last new ones have been long gone. any brat from 82-87, wagon from 80-84, sedan 80?-84, hatchback 80-87 will have the same rear emblem if its a gl
-
where is durham? and definetly get the rear hatch emblem that says "subaru gl" on the hatch, hatch wind deflector, and a roof rack. looks great from what i can tell and it even has the third eye:clap:(have you tried it out yet?) i just got a 83 turbo wagon my self for free:banana:
-
pics of manuals which im very happy about getting:headbang: from last week my treasures from the junk yard 1/4/12 grand total of $35:grin: the head light swap:D 1/6/12 also jacked it up like this(not for long in the rear just long enough to take off the wheels and hubs to check if the break cylinders where leaking which they were not and to check the beaks they look fairly new around 80%)

Tire Size for a First Gen Brat
turbosubarubrat replied to ThatSubaruKid's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
you can run 195/75/14r stock with very little rubbing on a stock brat. so do a six lug swap by redrilling the hubs and you can run the same rims as toyota's, mazad's, chvev's, ect. so you can run some 15 inch rims with what ever tires will fit or you can make them fit. -
ask about rust, if it has had engine or mechanical problems(besides fuel leak that you stated) before it was parked, and if he will take less than he is asking:grin:
-
no power mirrors:rolleyes:but i did a tail light swap with the older 80-82 ones with the chrome plated plastic.
-
did a tail light swap on my 83 turbo wagon i switch it to the older 80-82 style with the chrome plated plastic. also rebuilt the carb on my 85 brat, getting ready for paint, and i'm working on swapping the headlight setup over to the 2 headlight setup(already have the third eye setup) just need to weld in the new buckets.
