i know the 4 speed swap would be easy all i would need is to get my flywheel resurfaced, get a clutch kit, i have the consoles already, maybe drive line(not sure yet if auto is different than stick but theres one for a 5speed 2wd ea81 wagon at the junk yard), i already have the pedal asembile and clutch cable, of coarse i might have to cut some wholes for the dual range shifter and a bigger one for the stick shift, and i could get it done in after noon or a day

so how good are these trans? i know the autos have problems but this one only has 160k on it plus it has the push button 4wd it has the 3.7 diff in the rear, so should i just run a motor with the auto trany and call it good? or just swap a 4 speed or 5 speed stick without thinking about it. i have to add the motor is out of my 1983 ea81t 3at(i think its 3 speed)right now but thats how i got it last friday so im not in a hurry and i have everything for a 4 speed swap right now, also the transmission fluid is very low but when i hooked up the shifter it shifted ok, so what do you guys think? heres the build thread for pics http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=137681

i recall some people saying the 1980-81 or to 82ish(wagon, sedan, hatchback, or 81-82 brat) had a smaller engine compartment which would have a slightly smaller width of body making it not line up correctly because they where designed for the ea71 or thats at least what i have heard from a few guys that have done ej swaps not sure if thats true, maybe if someone who has had a bunch of these can chime in so far i have only worked on ea71, ea81, ea81t, and ea82 and i know they all have different dimensions but i have never had a 1980-82 to see if its accurate information

previous post continued its cool how the mire is in the glove box in this one has a 3.7 gear ratio in the diff so it has the lower diff my brat only has the 3.9 this is a extra diff

worked on it more today all body work and i also did a junkyard run and got some parts for it, i got two switches for the rear doors for the auto windows off a loyale but im going to have to rewire mine for it to work, valve cover, gas tank stopper, the small end piece for the aluminum trim at the end toward the tail light, side mirror screw caps 8=set of 2, and a 5 speed shifter for my brat and subaru gl emblelm for my brat, all together it was only 5 bucks:Dplus 2 bucks to get in and for people looking for parts theres 3 gl/loyales, a 87 ea81 hatchback and another, and a ea81 wagon still need to hit this out before it was hit in so the wiper fluid holder was right up against the panel after came out fairly well i used a hammer and my autobody tool kit from harbor freight but upgraded to a piece of kindle and a 2x8 and that worked great:banana: pic of what i scored

yep i just couldn't say no to a free project

even came with a non-turbo harness so it makes the ea81 with a ea82 fuel injected monifold more tempting

did some body and clean up work to it today put a hood and windshiled wiper cover on from a wrecked 86 brat i got last winter which had the same color of exterior and interior as this wagon:banana:also put on the new rear shocks for the truck so it stays up on its own(happy it came with them)also reconnected the emergency brake cables and put the consolls back on, and put on my spare rear bumper stoppers that came off another wagon bumper that was on my brat new struts next to old ones

got her today for free:headbang:thanks to Red0ktober, im planning on either finding a ea81t head in good shape or put in a ea81 with a carb or with a ea82 fuel injected monifold and putting a 4 speed dual range replacing the auto had a little problem on the way home though the rear wheel lug nuts where a little loose:-\but lesson learned im checking lug nuts from now on lost a wheel but brought a few with us just in case and we lost the lug nuts so i just used 3 on each wheel worked just fine(well we didn't really loose it but we didn't want to go looking for it because it would have been bad because it bent a stud and we where going around 45mph didn't even notice it fell off untell we started hearing something drag which was the hub rolling on the ground) heres the pics more to come of coarse when its light out dent was already there but it dragged for 3/4 of a mile so we figured pulling it 300ft more into a parking lot wouldn't hurt it and thats my dad came with black hood so im putting it on my brat and putting my spare blue one on this

facebook links dont work, you have to go to the image on facebook copy the image url then come back to the forum and make a reply then click thisand paste the image url in it and repeat depending on how many pictures you have and you only can have 21 pic per post including smilies, if you have more you just have to make more than one post it depends on the lift you need for what your doing for people to be able to tell you what your doing -

you use any of the orignal wire on it? i wired all mine with 12 or 14 gage copper wire. they tend to corrode when there as thin of gage as they are and some of those are aluminum and cheep so they corrode easy. did you make sure you dont have a wire crossed to make the relay click making the motor useless? did you check the ends for corrosion to? -

if you have to wire it like i did its going to take a while because mine didn't come factory with it so i had to wire the whole thing but now i can run mine without headlights:D -
