79 Brat Windshield?
turbosubarubrat replied to BlindSight's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
for $200 my dad got a guy to come to my house with the brand new windshield and gasket installed with the chrome in the gasket over a year ago. i also found a 1st gen brat windshield for $1 at a garage sale(my dad didn't know it was but i knew the shape very well)we also picked up at the same sale a set of rear seats for $50, bueaty rings, hub caps, also got steelies that looked brand new with the pin stripes still on from factory, carb, box of lugs like 70 of them new, side turn signals, ect. with other stuff for $75:D we also picked up another 1st gen windshield for $2 at the coast but we had to take it out, so there out there you just have to find them both the ones i have right now are spoken for because one is for the 79 im restoring for my dad and the other is a spare or is for are 79 brat -
not sure but i've seen enough people do it it can't hurt it that much or they would not do it because they would have to replace the suspension, also why would they make the suspension adjustable if it would damage it? the only reason they have it at the stock height is for better mpg, stock linement, and maybe safety standers. when you tighten the suspension out go in and get your brat or whatever aligned so you dont wear parts down from not being aligned properly
-
yah you can it raises it up about a inch, i need to do it to my brat too because it rubs on sharp turns in the front fenders

i met a guy once whole hauled 2 tons of wood with his second gen brat:grin: not including the trailer weight and he said he hauled 1 ton in the bed and 1 ton on the trailer. it wasn't that beat up besides there where a few waves in the bed of the brat because he welded two hitches together and welded it to the bed. and thats not the worst part he used to do this daily because he was hauling fire wood home because he got it for free from the lumber mill he worked. i remember him saying that some bearing on the front was makeing noise so he brought it in somewhere and got it fixed and the next day it came back after work and he didn't know why:lol: the 300 weight thing is for each person in the brat if i remember right

where i live i see a equal amount of gen 1 and 2 brats, but its true there are alot more of the ea81 cars around i personly like the gen 2 also but i also like the gen 1, hint from me my dad has bought 5 brats in the last 2 or 3 years my 85 brat and a 86 parts car and his 78,78, and 79 brat:grin:if your happy with the way the brat looks, drives, and fills go for it im restoring my dads 79 right now and its very easy to take apart and put back together the rust spots to look for are the bed, wheel wells, lower parts of the body like the supports for the body and rocker panels, bottom of doors, top and bottom of fenders, and obious places where you see bad spots of rust wholes on body panels -

79 BRAT paint colors
turbosubarubrat replied to Jonv23's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
found this on a thread here http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/SubaruPaintCodes -
i have been running 14 inch aluminum peugoets with 195/75/14 tires with no problems besides the front will rub on sharp turns that will be fixed once i finally get it back on the road because im restoring it right now, you fix it by adjusting the suspension up front which is two nuts that you adjust about a inch out and it will be fine, but all this depends on tire size and if those are 14 or 15 inch rims i haven't had any problems with the rim, lug nuts, or hub size i have different lug nuts than what came stock for stealies(open lug nuts) maybe i have a set that are for the subaru aluminum wheels(closed lug nuts) but they work for all my rims
