My new Project: Leone Turismo
turbosubarubrat replied to Lukas's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yep there great motors saw one that went up to 650,000 miles without rebuild thats why it ended up in a junkyard, if u take care of these cars they seriously last forever (as long as u get rid of rust:brow:) by any chance is there any 85 brat tail lights over there? i thought there might be more of a aftermarket selection over where u live because there isn't much left in the US -
check out this site! i was looking to see if they still had parts for my 85 brat and they did once i started looking how much the parts cost new now, im like when i saw the t tops where $700 for each side https://www.1stsubaruparts.com/partscat.html

good thing u put the ea82 in it because here in the USA the ea82t doesn't have the heads made for it anymore which means your prity much screwed if u cant find a used one or a parts car -
u have to pull the motor to check the the clutch disk, my dad changed my clutch for me(stupid home work when i was still in school before summer vaction!)he was able to change the clutch without taking the motor out completely he just took out the radiator, split the motor and trany apart with a jack under the motor, and he was able to change it without any problems

if u want it back to original condition wouldn't it have the gl-10 motor(ea82t) in it with the factory front and rear disc brakes but its your project(i plan on putting a ee diesil in my 85 brat someday with a 6 inch lift kit and running 15 in peugeots:headbang: it has a totaled title soo... that just means im going to have another brat close to stock;)) -

yep:cool:theres alot of subaru's where i live:headbang:when i ride around sandy u see like 12 ea82 wagons and a few brats some ea81's and some times ea71's and tons and tons of new ones, i have 5 subarus at my house my 85 brat, my dads 78, 78, and 79 brats and a 90 something loyale, the peugeots are rare back here there rare everywhere they got shipped here from france, im lucky i got a set of 14in peugeots for $40:D (when i was watching a peugeot price drop on craigslist to a little above scrap so i gave them a call and got them:headbang:and gave him a crappy set of 13's off ea82 to get to junk yard it looked funnier than hell with a 15in spare peugeot on the right rear and 13 inch subaru rims flipped around the left rear brake cleared because it was off and the right wasn't)

this sounds like what would happen to yours, my friend had 1980 toyota corvette yellow he had where it was lifted and was running dana 44's on it and he parked next to a cliff with no guard rail where he worked at and he forgot to put the piece of wood in front of the front tires then one thing led to another he had to rebuild for a second time after rolling down a ciff

Gen 1 wheel question
turbosubarubrat replied to dickdirty's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
thats what your worrying about:banghead:unless u have it lowered u will be fine im running 14' peugeot rims on mine with 195/75/14's on my 85 brat and it only rubs a little my dad was running his peugeots on his 78 brat and they didn't rub so you will be fine as long as its not lowered, i was eyeing those rims glad you snagged them they look good my dad has a set of them with all the caps but my sister scuffed up them up so i dont want to run them on my brat but maybe after polishing for hours maybe -
I haven't been working on my brat a whole lot(in need of a welder to fix wheel well, customize the roll bar so the canopy will fit on for winter, customize a brush guard/winch bumper) but figured out my tailgate handle problem:cool: it was rusty and needed the handle part at the bottom and the emblem was scratched up really bad and non-repairable so i had two handles so im making 1 out of 2 im happy with the air brush i just got at harbor freight primed and sanded about 3-4 times to sit about right 79 brat hood emblem im refinishing for my dads brat just need to paint background behind the stars
-
another pic update haven't done one in a while;) got both valve covers painted primed the right side rear quarter panel if any of u guys ever have taped off one of these to paint u know how long it takes to do it finished preping my 85 brats tail gate handle:clap:took forever had to bondo where emblem was and prime and sand like 5 times to get a good smoothness but im happy with the airbrush i got from harbor freight works great for small jobs and the rust-oleum in a can works good with it when u thin it out with mineral spirits happy with the results just need to put a cleat coat on them, im thinking about getting a subaru emblem sticker made for the handle but it gives it a very clean look the way i have it now

Gen 1 wheel question
turbosubarubrat replied to dickdirty's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
i think those will fit any big four lug subaru, the gen 1(ea71) and gen 2(ea81) wheels will not fit on the ea82 because they have different base points on the inside, but the ea82 wheels i think will fit on the ea71 and ea81 please correct me if im wrong but i think thats right, and u should be able to figure it out if u try putting on one of the wheels on the car and spin it around and see if it rubs -
looks close to what i did except i did the whole bed:cool:

85 XT EA82T fuel/electrical issues
turbosubarubrat replied to torxxx's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
my dads the same way with the ea82 turbo's but he doesn't really want anything with major computer stuff anyway:rolleyes:i also dont blame u this one guy had 2 gl-10 wagons both different years and they took the motors out of them and where going to swap them it was stupid how they didn't notice how both had different setup like the electrical and vacume systems, and we got talking to him and he said u can't buy the ea82t heads new anymore thats why he was swapping because he cracked a head on one (u can buy the ea71, ea81, ea82 still though:D) -
check online and see how rare the 360 is it's worth it to the right person
-
it would be better if he put two pieces of fire wood or something in front of the front and rear tires to keep it from moving(or just hook up to two trees) and hook up a come along or winch to it and to a tree or something thats doesn't move to pull slowly so he doesn't mess it up or he could cut it off and weld a different one on
-
get one person to push a little on the door from the inside and someone try opening it from the out side or u push on the door from the out side and try opening it, that seemed to work on my dads brat that had a door that had been hit on the same side as yours i replaced the door(for some reason some one replaced the door before because the handle broke on original then they replaced the whole door then it got side swiped and parked i put the original back on with the wrecked doors handle and it looks/works alot better)
-
yah the space is nice have 4 subaru's in there now but its a green house so the past few days its been hotter than **** in there, but its very nice during winter and its 32ft wide and about 90ft or so long

Lost Ignition Key!!!
turbosubarubrat replied to RonVee's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
u will need a cordless drill for the job probably, but if u have a angle corded that would work i know when i drilled out mine in my brat that i used my dads DeWalt 18v drill with a worn out nicd battery and it worked pritty good(my 1/2 corded black&decker hammer drill wouldn't fit:mad:sadly i used it so much i broke it a couple months later) but this time i used my craftsman c3 lithium 19.2v and it worked fantastic, i prefer corded so i know if u dont have a cordless but my craftsman gets alot done in a little time and its easier to handle
