u going to wire wheel, prime, and paint the roll bar like i did? u can make the rear seat mount out of aluminum like i got for 80 with the rear seats and seat belts some guy had them in the back of his datsun
-
so u can't pull the lever up two more positions after 2wd? thats weird so i think its single ranger but if your really worried about it u can take the trany out and look at it to see if the 4wheel drive lever works right
-
ok then u do have a problem then because thats dual range on my brat, does yours go in three positions 2wheel, 4wheel hi, and 4wheel low, or can u only find two?
-
i know this is my 85 brat but does the set up look the same or different? as in the lever and stick i've seen quite a few people put the dual ranges in the older gens because there better than the single range:D
-
the ea71 trany only had single range 4wheel drive with a lever, and mikaleda your getting the 1st and 2nd gen brats mixed up the ea71 (1600cc motor) 1st gen brat 1978-81 only had the single range trany(expcept a few 81 brat where made when the new motor (ea81) and trany dual range came out), the 2nd gen brat's where a little different the gl models only came with dual range and the dl models only came with single range, mikaleda your wagon is a single range trany from its year and i had to clear that up sort of a bratohalic have 4 1/2 at home:D
-
also u can tell the difference on the tail gate on 2nd gen models by looking at the emblem in the right upper part of the tail gate and there should be a plastic emblem that says "subaru gl" or "subaru dl" and the dl models where only single range, but he said he has the cyclopse headlight and i dont know if those are gl or dl because they where only made from 82-83 on the brats
-
what head light set up do u have? thats the difference between dl and gl, gl has four head lights 2 on each side and dl has 2 head lights 1 on each side. the hood is the same on every ea81(besides the very last 1st gen brats gl only came with the ea81 instead of ea71 also they came with dual range instead of singlr range four wheel drive) if u have any more questions about your brat i can probably answer it i tore one down to the unibody over a year ago hears a link to my threadhttp://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=133905

turbosubarubrat replied to biffanyus's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
u would have the rubbing problem like me if u where running 195/75/14's on peugeots:grin:they only rub on very sharp turns but it gives me about a 3 inch lift:headbang:i need to adjust the front suspension which will lift it about another inch in the front and take away the rubbing problem:headbang: -

u might be screwed like i was with my 85 brat, subaru makes there ignitions so if u put in the wrong key it brakes the pins on the inside once u get the key out:banghead:i would say try using wd-40 or a lock easier. my dad put in a 87 gl wagon key into my brats ignition totally different ignition but the dumb key actually worked on my doors

help identify factory L Series rear coils
turbosubarubrat replied to jono's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
there also refered by there there cc's and liter in the older one's ea71=1600cc=1.6liter, ea81=1800cc=1.8liter, ea82 a little confusing because its about the same as the ea81 ea82=1800cc=1.8liter the difference is the ea82's are bigger than the ea81 so they get a little more horse power and there designed different. and we also have the ea82 gl, dl, gl-10 models same thing as the loyale but the loyale didn't come out untell about 1990 and it replaced the need to name the gl and dl models. the gl and dl's were made 1984-90 aproximently the gl-10 was made from 85 to 94? -
disappointed to find this bad of rust:( i need to get a welder now or get my dads friend to do it for me:-pbut im happy to get all the hardware i want to get from ace finally! ace-hardware took forever getting the bolts/nuts/washers i wanted i ordered them so i wouldn't have to spend a bunch of time counting them, but it turned out they dumped the ones i ordered and been waiting for about 2 weeks for in there stock so i had to count out 100 washers, 100 nuts, and 50 bolts!

they did make only one harness for both gl and dl brats both gens too(different harnesses for the gen1 and gen2 though.) i think they did that with every gl and dl subaru they ever made. i like the look with only two head lights on my 85 brat but i need to find all the stuff for that to work out though, my dad has two dl brat a 78 and 79 and a 78 gl.

My 1993 Loyale: Work In Progress
turbosubarubrat replied to GirlWithALegacy's topic in Members Rides
u could get that to come out with a "come along" really easy my friend did it with the door post(passenger door also known as shot-gun) on my sisters 87 subaru gl wagon after his wife hit it going in reverse luckily he bought all replacing parts and he installed them, he did alot of autobody for a long until he hurt his back really bad:-\(he was in construction and fell two stories and broke his back which now has a disk in it:-\) -
my dad bought a 79 brat a couple months ago with no tittle but luckily we got from dmv with no problems but it took 2 months:banghead:we fallowed their instructions and got it after we sent a letter to the last registered owner luckily he had passed on but sort of scary since the car hasn't gotten registered in 14 years and it has gone through 3 or more different owners before my dad who didn't register it:-\but the letter got marked back as undeliverable which was prove to dmv plus the bill of sale from the guy we boght it from for us to get a tittle:grin: i've been working on it for my dad because i never have anything better to do besides working on my 85 brat:lol:and here's the progress on it and some videos of you-tube i made:burnout:tell me how im doing for doing this solo at 15 years old videos:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LstVzWgDYCM&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T66svTKKEfQ&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HowELvRqPKQ&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d8_zH63mko&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MMIhOfSaGE&feature=plcp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1KawvO3g-w&feature=plcp pictures:

the back on mine have never rubbed for some reason but the front ones rub just a little when theres a very sharp turn, so i need to adjust the front suspension and get it realigned so it handles good:D i'm going to probably both subaru meets next year and you'll see mine there and maybe my dads, my roll bar came out of a 1st gen brat and my dads friend fabricated it to fit my 2nd gen and it fits good but i want to get it shortened so my canopy will fit on it:headbang:and the tires im running are all-season or summer can't remember
