Well I've been able to use my new impact quite a bit now and I've upgraded my whole system to 20v. I love my new impacts I have had very little that it couldn't pull loose. I am surprised how handy the 3 speed motor is. I have only had to charge the battery twice so far.

Sorry for the slow update, I've got the oil consumption back to normal again. I think the castrol didn't agree with subie. I switched back to federated cheapo oil and after the first oil change it started getting better. I also found when I'm giving it excessive rpms 5-6k it does burn a small amount of oil. I have changed my driving habits so I don't exceed 4k rpms during my normal driving. I think the problem is solved now

Okay I think I know what your talking about. It sounds like you want to change it out with a phase II gear box with 8 bolts instead of 4? If so I believe I've heard of people swapping those out without any issues. I am not familiar with the gear ratios in those years but, you should be fine as long as its going in a two wheel drive. It may shift slightly different but, I don't think it will affect anything

I love my hankooks the w409 winter i-pike is the only tire I can get that has the cleanout I demand from a tire. They perform well, but they are very soft and wear quickly if I run them too much in the summer on asphalt. I have a brand new set of ceramic brake pads I think I'll install with the new rotors, they are supposedly high performance because they cool quicker.

Also if I had a customer refuse a rad on a head gasket job when I recommened it, I would refuse to give them a warrenty.

Oh and the time it takes to test the radiator in labor time just about pays for the new one

Most people don't know the history of their cooling system. $200 for a rad replacement would only be if they weren't already there. Doing a head gasket the system is drains the motor is pulled and its literly two bolts and you can pull the old rad out and reinstall the new rad. No need to charge extra labor for a five minuet job. I can buy a brand new Subaru rad for right around $100.

Unless a customer tells me they have replaced the rad I replace them when doing any major service. A $100 radiator on a $1000 dollar head gasket replacement is nothing and only makes sense. As for the timing belt, unless it was just replaced within a year or 20k miles you might as well replace it while your there it doesn't take that long. It does make sense because the labor prices excead the price of the part by a lot

A good shop doing a Subaru head gasket will compleatly replace your cooling system, water pump, radiator, thermostat. I suggest you get it done as soon as possible, the less it overheats the better.

There are no vaccume controls on the 4eat (the transmission that is in both of your cars), the 05, you may have a different issue. For the o.p. it sounds as if you are experiencing a mechanical failure in your transmission, but it is hard to tell as you describe it. Does it act the same way if you manuely shift it?

I did try hitting the brakes at 60 and I did get vibration in the wheel. I believe my front rotors are where the problem is. I happen to have a set and some ceramic brake pads so I'll put them on today and update when I get it out on the pavement again. I use my brakes so little I've put 15k miles on my car since I bought it and the brakes still look new lol.
