  1. Nice, glad it broke loose. I would go ahead and regrease the slide pins anyway, they are the biggest issues on these cars
  2. Make sure the gear ratios are the same. Aside from that the only reason they would have a different spline count on the axles is if the impreza is a turbo car
  3. That would be awsome! I'd say its totally worth a shot
  4. I think the brand off gasket you use is more important than second guessing the manufactures tourque specs. From what I hear on the 2.5s you should use only OE head gaskets
  5. I can't remember off the top off my head where the 4wd actuator is on the loyals, I think its on the firewall in the middle somewhere. I would go ahead and check all the vaccume lines for cracking and leaking just to be safe.
  6. First we need to know weather its an auto or stick. The above is true for the auto, but not for the stick. The stick is vaccume actuated so the problem could be as simple as a loose or cracked vacumme hose. It would be helpful to know for sure wether or not its engaging when the lights off and the button is engaged.
  7. I've seen that happen befire , the inner hose wall collapses letting pressure in but not out. Best way to test this is to push on the brakes, let off and crack the bleeder. If the hose is at fault there will be some pressure left in the caliper and it will push brake fluid out the bleeder when cracked. Brake hoses should be inspected and replaced if they are showing signs of age/cracking espicialy if the car sat for an extended period of time. Could try driving a short way and brake hard a few times, then see if the drag is gone. I've been able to do that a few times
  8. You caught me lol. My first Subaru was an ea71, I liked it a lot but I never tore down the motor so i am lacking in the knowledge of certain parts of the motor
  9. And the engines that don't have these don't have issues either, and that's probably why they discontinued this in later models. A freeze plug is an intentional weak spot, to put an intentional weak spot for the coolant under the valve covers is stupid IMHO
  10. Also ethanol gas has a shelf life of 3 months, Nonethanol gas has a shelf life of 2+ years. Storing a car with ethanol gas in the carb will ruin the rubber in the carburator. Best to use a good fuel stabilizer, another good use for startron
  11. Do not use heat in ethanol gas! Most gas stations run e10 ethanol which means its already 10% alchohol. So puting heat in ethanol gas is just compounding the problem that e10 gas has of absorbing moisture out of the air. For ethanol mix gases I like to run startron fuel treatment. Startron is the only fuel additive that actually treats phase separation that plaugues ethanol gas. The reason I know about ethanol gas is because I worked a service center and we had tons of issues with water in the gas. There are tons of headaches caused by this fuel that not many people know. I do like berrymans b12 and Lucas fuel injector cleaners
  12. They must have only done this in the ea motors. I know for a fact neither of my ej22s have this. I have never seen this on any motor before, and I don't see the point in having freeze plugs in this location
  13. I've never seen any kind of soft plug under a valve cover, could you post some pics? They don't sound like a freeze plug to me but it wouldn't be the first time Subaru has thrown a curve ball at me.
  14. This reminds me of the E3 spark plugs I used to see in racing magazines. They were short lived for a reason, all they are doing is giving you a slightly hotter spark and its not going to give you any noticable increase in horsepower. You could get alot more horsepower by disconecting your ac and power steering pump.
  15. Even if there are freeze plugs in the head, they will be external and they will not cause oil coolant mix
  16. Freeze plugs are in certain spots in the block so that in case the coolant is the freeze it gives the coolant a place to expand to without cracking the block. It makes no sense that a freeze plug would EVER cause oil to mix with coolant. Freeze plugs are on the outside of the motor, they cause external leaks only
  17. An incline does help get the air bubbles out. These cars can be tricky to bleed properly.
  18. Heater position doesn't matter in these cars, but normally your right. The vent bleeder is right in front of the upper radiator hose.
  19. Freeze plugs leak externaly, no way for them to cause the coolant to mix with the oil
  20. There is a vent bleeder screw on the opposite side of the rad cap take that out while filling. Once its full leave the cap and vent off while it warms up to let any remaining air pockets out
  21. A car sitting that long I would check the exauhst for restictions/mouse nest. I had this happen on a brat that I worked on that sat for a couple years. I revved up the engine for a while and poof! Out came a nest. Possible vaccume leak? Fuel filter? Air filter
  22. Got the OEM pcv today and installed it. So of course murphay had to interfere and my drivers CV axle locked up and now I'm stuck waiting for parts When I pulled the old pcv valve it was sticking slightly so I'm thinking that it will be a fix for the problem
  23. That could be a problem with late valve timing, possibly timing belt or valve adjustment Good way to see if the rings are bad is to pull the oil cap off and see if you get blowbuy (white smoke coming out)
