  1. I've heard about this before, it works really well from what I've heard.
  2. I would check fluid level first. If that isn't a problem, the I would first see if you have any info on when the timing belt was done. Make sure the timing belt isn't contaminated with antifreze/oil making the belt slip
  3. .22 shells, lol jk. I think you covered just about everything.
  4. That's riddiculous. I would give the aftermarket axles a shot, you could buy a lot of after market axles for that price
  5. Gates makes a good timing belt kit, typically a timing belt replacement includes new belt, idlers, and water pump. The tensioner is usually inspected upon removal, but the tensioner could have started deterating anytime during the 50k since its been serviced
  6. I believe you have to pull the crank pully and pull the center cover off, this is the best way to inspect the timing belt anyway. Yes it should be leaking like a shock absorber if its bad. I think the proper way though is to pull it and check for side play in the shaft.
  7. This is the official six lug redrill in the usrm Please just read it http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/127462-official-6-lug-re-drill-thread-now-in-the-usrm/?fromsearch=1
  8. Why do you ask for help and then not use it? There is tons of info in this forum about putting larger tires on Subaru's like yours and lots of people don't want 13's. 14 inch Nissan rims are six lug and a six lug hub redrill is really common with offroaders. And flipping a rim around puts a ton of pressure on the hub and lugs and is very likely to break something.
  9. Yes, check the new gen FAQ sticky at the begging of the site it has a good link on how to check the ecm and the TCM codes
  10. Its actually a hydraulic tensioner, you should be able tell if its bad by seeing if the casing around the tensioner rod is leaking. With the age, miles and symptoms its very likely the probl.
  11. Timing belt tensioner could be going out makeing the belt have slack in it. 50,000 that's close to time, it would be worth inspecting. Service schedule for these cars is 60k unless its a California car than its 100k. But it sounds like a bad tb tensioner Also age of belt should be considered as well
  12. The timing belt runs the water pump as well as cam timing. So if the belt is compromised the water pump could slip and the cam timing can change thus causing the missfire randomly as well as overheating
  13. Exactly, it probably be fine, but your still dragging the rear end, turning the drive line. The front wheel drive fuse was made for emergency's and short term use when using a spare tire. it just keeps the clutch packs from transferring power to the rear wheels.
  14. How long has it been since the timing belt has been replaced? Your car is interferance so you need to be extra carefull since a broken timing belt could cause valve damage.
  15. That's tourque bind, nothing to do with your brakes. The one smaller tire caused the rear end to put power to that tire, esentialy changing the gear ratio making the front end fight the rear end. which makes it pull to one side or the other.
  16. The hub splines might be starting to wear out, you might not be able to tell just by looking yet.
  17. I would just treat it like it is interferance since breaking a belt will still result in a towing bill on top of a timing belt r&r. Better safe than sitting on the side of the road with a broken belt
  18. You shouldn't completely lose your brakes even if the power booster goes out. The travel of the pedal might change but you should still be able to hit the brakes and stop the car. That being said though the sighns are pointing twords a bad power booster
  19. Okay first what is the year make and model. Second if its an ej22 and its not overheating I would doubt your head gasket is the problem From reaserch on this when my head gaskets went out, use only OEM or or on the 2.2 with composite head gaskets (like the early 90's used) you can use fel pro head gaskets. But I would get a second opinion on the head gasket diagnosis.
  20. The fuse will stop the tourque bind from causing more problems, but if the axles broke its going to need to be trailered home
  21. When I installed kybs on my gl front suspension it stiffened up my suspension alot. But they were the original adjustable strutts and they were adjusted all the way down and the kybs are welded at max height . I would go ahead and replace the springs if they look really rusty, I've seen more than a fair share of snapped springs in subarus. Of course we use salt on the roads up here that could be part of it
  22. Pull the inspection covers and inspect the belt. It is a really good idea to just replace the belt if there are any concerns about it
