  1. Doh! I feal like a retard now, I'm so used to the roller rockers on a pushrod engine that I didn't even think about over head cam roller rockers, i retract my earlier statement, sorry.
  2. Imho I wouldn't chance it, I would spend 50 cents more if they offered a non ethonal gas. Sorry that my post isn't very helpfull, but I know absolutly nothing about e-85 fuel
  3. Yuck that looks pretty well clogged. I guess I was wrong those filters arn't cleanable. Must have just been the trans I was working on that had the cleanable filter.
  4. Their over head cam of course their roller rockers I think you should learn a little more about how valve systems work, no offense, but roller rockers are for push rod engine to make less friction like over head cam. Also the 2.2 HLAs are not like they notorious ea82 HLAs they rarely have problems.
  5. I have seen some threads on this before, I think some year ford escort seats will fit. I can't remember for sure try searching this site with google since the search function on this site is overly complicated, type your key words the type link:ultimatesubru.org in google.
  6. So far from what I have seen from my new c.v. That I replaced my napa reman with seems to be good and hasn't given me any problems even with the front jacked all the way up.
  7. There is whole thread in here that talks about the differances of injectors, mainly about stick v.s. auto, but It explains a lot about the differant injectors and how they work. I wish someone would sticky it, it's realy informative.
  8. Wow, personally I would find another mechanic, it's the little things that count luckily it's just a oil sending unit and you noticed it and not something more important that you might have missed. Hopefully your mechanic does the right thing.
  9. Sounds like you found your problem, hopefully tha fixes it. It's not unusual to see a few shavings on these autos, filter is supposed to be cleanable so don't throw your old one away yet.
  10. Ya that makes sense, especially since he has the parts car right there.
  11. P.c.v valve is a Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve and its just basically a one way valve and if it gets stuck open it sucks oil into the intake and burns it. Rings rarely fail on these subarus unless its been badly abused.
  12. I run 10w-40 in my cars, smoking is usually because of a bad p.c.v valve. P.c.v valves are cheap and easy to replace and I've seen subies with 300k plus that don't smoke.
  13. Just my humble opinion here, but I would take it back to the shop that did that and insist that they fix it properly. There's really no exuse for such Soddy work on that new of a car and they should know better. That's just what I would do.
  14. If they look like the the pic above they will work. No need to pull them just take the tire off and look.
  15. Get some antifreeze in there ASAP! It is the lubricant for the water pump and also increases cooling capability of the water, antifreeze is important for more than just winter time.
  16. Also I found out theat my oil pump hasn't been filtering the oil since before I got this car so this p.o.s ea71 is going to get thrashed when I go mudding in the near future. Ea81 and a dual range trans is in the future for this car, along with rear disc breaks.
  17. Sway bar that's what it is I think, should be fairly easy to do them. I'm not to worried at the moment since I just tried driving this car to town and my pos cheapo Stant t-stat started messing up
  18. Bump! And I found out why my front end is making noise, it's bad bushings on the stabilizer bar? I guess that's what you call it, but I was crawling around under there and grabbed one and heard it clunk so I checked them out and their definatly hard and deformed. Not sure when I'm going to fix those, but I'm not in a hurry.
  19. My local napa had some split open filters on a stand when I was a kid, you could clearly see the differance in the filters you were getting. I don't know why they don't do that anymore, I've always thought that was a great idea.
  20. +1 the slight indentations from the rust could be honed out possibly, but boring it out and using over sized rings would make it a good engine again.
  21. I have done it on my 80 (pics in the link of my sig page 3 or 4) i have a 95 impreza alt in my 80. it is not hard if that's all your doing but he is already replacing the engine, lets not make it more complicated than need be.
  22. What's on my mind? Why subaru of course!

  23. I think where you get your fuel is more important than octane, I only have thee gas stations I go to because they have the better quality gas than the other places. Example: less water in the gas, newer tanks, car responds better. Another thing to look at now because of the ethonal, how many people use the gas stations and what kind if fuel is most used, I know I will not get mid grade from the stations around the lake because nobody buys it and so it sits in the tank and degrades.
  24. Pull the covers on both sides, it might be hard getting the bolts out but just be patient. Once their off use a remote start switch to turn the engine or you can do it by hand but make sure you rotate the engine enough to see the whole belt. Look for cracks, chunks missing fraying, or teeth missing. If you see any of that change it. As for the clunking, I would jack the front end of the ground and do an inspection of the c.v.'s, ball joints, wheel bearings, ect...
