  1. I was just reapeating what I read n the book I got with my centech scanner, I'm not surprised that its off a year.
  2. +1 that's how i learned, kinda. I learned by putting an ej alt in my ea engine.
  3. A few cars got obdII in 95-96 it wasn't until 97 that it became mainstream. An easy way to tell is if there is a diagnostic plug in the dash.
  4. Try using google to search this site, it works better than the search bar. Just type in :link ultimatesubaru.org after your keywords and it will give you results from this site, I know there is info on here about what your asking, just keep searching Try searching coolant temp sensor Also new gen FAQ sticky has the info on the obd1 codes first page.
  5. I had that happen to me yesterday but luckily the car didn't fall, I had it jacked up doing the rear bearings and one of my "HArbor freight" jack stands slipped. Good thing I left the jack under the car and it held, time to get some better jack stands.
  6. Not true my 1980 ea81 has a vaccumme actuator for the hvac it's never had ac, I think it's for defrost not sure. It's under the glove box you'll have to remove the plastic peice that covers it.
  7. Sweet thanks. When I get a little money saved up I might just do that.
  8. Hey since this is going to be a mud wagon and an auto, have you thought about doing the locking center diff mod?
  9. Well I got the ps bearing apart and out having a hard time getting the new race in, I'm going to have to take it down to the neighbor that has a press and press it in. Fun fun fun until daddy takes the gl away just a little stab at humor there
  10. Cool build. It will be Intersting to see what that will do.
  11. I doubt the inner tierods are the problem, and did you jack the car up off the ground before you checked everything? The front end needs to be off the ground or even a badly worn balljoint or axel will feel tight. What you are describing could be outer tierods, ball joint, swaybar links, control arm bushings, wheel bearings (probably not in this case), or a loose strut top (also unlikely unless you recently had your struts changed)
  12. Ahh, my bad I totaly forgot about subarus limp mode feature. You are correct.
  13. Ya the replacement kyb's are welded to the Max height instead of being adjustable. If you want adjustable you need to replace the cartridges in the old struts.
  14. If your struts look like this than order them for an 84 brat or wagon they are all the same.
  15. If changing the ecu made it idle correctly than the IAC is fine and he is probably right about the ecu being the problem.
  16. If you connect the sending wire that goes to the sender to ground it should peg the gauge.
  17. More than likely the wire going to your sending unit is grounding out somewhere.
  18. Do your struts look like this The black one is the original subaru strut and the grey one is a Kyb gr2 replacment. These are mc pherson struts.
  19. I agree with cougar, I doubt your problem is in the alt.
  20. Not realy that accurate though. I am a shadetree mechanic and I use a multi meter, in most ways it's actually easier that disconnecting the battery cable.
  21. Yes that is true just make sure you have the McPherson struts, they are quite a bit differant than the earlier style.
  22. My code reader says bank 1 sensor 2 so it would be the one near the tailpipe.
  23. Rockauto.com 80 brat should have McPherson struts, in that case any 80-86 or so ahold be the same
