  1. IMHO I would start by verifying that you have the correct fuel pressure. Also if it has been a long time since you have changed the fuel filter that might be a good thing to do to.
  2. Okay I got the interior pulled out and got the carpet pulled out and they were dripping wet. They were probably so wet because of the softball sized hole I found when I pulled the carpet out. I am going to talk to my metal worker neighbor and see if fixing the rust is going to be feasible. I think I am going to be using metal off of an old shower stal 1/16 inch thick and somewhat rustproof. We'll see what happens I am still working on pics.
  3. Those old Toyotas are such good little trucks my step dad had an 80's that had heavy duty springs under it, you could litterly load that thing so full of wood that it was about to spill out the sides and it wouldn't even squash it at all. Those old 22r motors are tough to they last forever.
  4. Okay new thermostat in and now it's overheating no circulation both hoses are cold and no circulation I the rad. I did check the the thermostat before installed it. It opened fully at 200 degrees 195 T-stat so that is about right. The thermostat is a new Stant oe type and oe temp. I'm thinking the water pump is probably on the way out between that and the rust that I found in the cab (my drivers side seat fell through on one corner pics coming) I am begging to doubt this car is actually worth saving. By the time I have fixed the rust and wiring and all the other stuff I could practicly have built this car from the ground up. I am seriously thinking about getting another ea81 subaru that doesnt have ao much rust and putting my new parts on that.
  5. The large wire that connects to the solenoid is +positive beneath that there should be a small wire that connects to male spade clip coming out of the solenoid jump that to the large cable and it will activate the solenoid just like turning the key. The solenoid is just a big relay the negative connections are through the block.
  6. Have you noticed any driveability problems? Has your gas mileage gone down? How many miles on the car? 2.2 or 2.5? The more info the better. If the car has high mileage like 300k or more it could be the cat but, there should be a way to test that. I would rule everything else out before replacing the cat.
  7. Place the car in park and then connect one side of the jumper on the main power supply for the starter and the other on where the small wire connects if the starter turns over its probably the inhibitor switch.
  8. I would try using a jumper or remote starter on the cylinoid and see if that makes it crank over could be a bad inhibitor switch or a bad wire
  9. Defiantly don't try diagnosing ac ripple with a cheap multimeter. I tried doing that once and no matter what I did it would show ac ripple even with the battery out of the car
  10. That's what I thought, the link I posted is about the rf suppressor on a 86 brat. It is not necessary it just keeps the electircal noise out of your radio.
  11. Dash and tail lights are connected through the same fuse, that is the first thing I would check.
  12. Pull the alternator and bring it in with you, as cougar said it sounds like it has failing diodes parts stores generally don't check for ac ripple so when you have them test it ask what the ac output was. If they say it is charging fine and has no ac ripple then I would start looking at your wiring.
  13. That is good the universal sensors almost never work. I believe 97 has two o2 sensors but you code scanner should tell you which bank is seeing the error. Is it the same one you replaced and which one is it front cat or back.
  14. If it is what I think it is this thread may help you http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/136409-what-is-this-little-capacitor-looking-thing/
  15. Okay I ended up getting a good price at one of the local stores for $150 I got new moog seals, ntn bearings and a Stant thermostat. Now I just need to get them in, I am going to do the theostat today but I am going to wait a bit to put the bearings in since I found some major rust inside. I have been doing a little rust Provention but that is when I found the floor under the drivers seat is almost rusted through I will get some pics up latter today hopefully
  16. What brand of o2 sensor did you put in? Was it universal or was it direct replacement?
  17. I don't see any rust on it, an engine is no big deal even if you replace the whole thing. Rust is when you start save it fix it before it starts getting messed up
  18. Yuck I'm not a fan of convertibles in the first place but, come on you would think subaru could come up with something better than that
  19. Napa can never get orders right I would trust Rockford more than napa. Rockford has listings for specific subarus.
  20. This is where you need to get the ujoints http://www.rockforddriveline.com/replacem.htm
  21. I would say bad alternator, I had this happen on a 1990 legacy NA when the engine warmed up the alt would stop working and if you let the car cool down for a bit it would start working again.
