Well my legacy is running now so I am going to wait a little while before I get around to fixing this car. I went into the local auto parts store and had my alternator tested and it has an ac ripple but it is still charging so it looks like I need to replace my voltage regulator to. Will pOst results when I fix, thanks everyone for the help

83 brat no electric won't turn over
mikaleda replied to n0rlander's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
+1 it is in your main negative cable more than likely. I had this happen once on a Honda and the wire looked fine but when I did a prob test I found out there was a large spot of corrosion in the middle of the wire. I would check both ends of your negative and also check with prob light, or just replace negative wire -
If you read my op you would rFealize that I did say that. And again the memory wire is hooked up properly it just doesnt have pOwer. I have tested the wire with a test light and it is not getting power now. Yes it was an after market stero and I'm not even sure that the memory was working on the old one. There should be a fuse for the memory somewhere there usually are. And just because there is no power going to the memory it DOESN'T mean it is hooked up wrong it is the original memory wire from the old radio. I can run a new wire from the battery but I don't like doing that if I can help it

climate control. that could be but what i don't understand is why i am getting power to both sides of the fuse even when the fuse is not inserted. i tried search but didn't come up with anything like this but i will try again using different parameters memory. memory is positively hooked up right everything else works fine it just won't hold presets or time.

90 legacy L. for some reason ever since i put my new stereo in my memory is not working i am thinking fuse but i can't find one any where. i checked the fuse block, checked the radio fuse checked under the hood in the fuses relays box, and checked all over the place under the dash. also for some reason my climate control switches arn't getting any power, they haven't since i bought the car. i have checked for a fuse for that and found one in the fuse block but the fuse was in tact and for some reason when i checked it for power it has power to both sides of the fuse with the fuse removed. does anyone know what is causing this? i have a suspicion the two problems are connected somehow, but i'm not sure. any help would be appreciated. i would really like to get the climate control working before winter so i can defrost my windows, its already starting to getting cold enough in the mornings up here to have frost on the windshield.

if you are 22 degrees out that means you have a vacuum leak you need to find that and fix it then fix the timing

another thing i have noticed is if someone is in front of me on a dirt road i back off until i'm not sucking dust that their car is kicking up. i have gone from changing my filters with my oil changes to changing them twice a year. just a thought.

in my opinion if he has the spfi motor than there would be little differance in milage getting a loyal they have the same engine and also with the five speed he should be getting at least thirty. personally i like my legacy if your not off roading they are the better choice (in my opinion) they are all wheel drive get around 30 mpg if you have the 2.2 and are much more comfortable than the loyal and defiantly have more power

decided to quit working on this car for a while and start working on my legacy, so no new updates for a little while.

AWD Question
mikaleda replied to ergo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
im not an expert but i can tell you i have five awd subies at my house and none of them have ever needed to be re-alined before 10k they have all gone at least 10k on one alignment and i live on a bumpy dirt road one of them just got is first alignment at 90k (since we bought it that is) one thing you can check is to see if your steering rack boots are ripped that could cause contaminants to get in and were out the steering gears so your alignment gets messed up -
f you gd. i have never claimed to be a know it all (unlike you) i just say my opinion and they can take as they want, and by the way i have had help from lots of help from new users that was incorrect it doesn't mean they know nothing or they are trying to mislead anyone they just want to help. and if i was doing something so wrong you would think one of the moderators of the site would have said something to me by now, so far YOU are the ONLY one that has said ANYTHING to me.

i never stated what i said was fact i am only relating my personal experiance just like everyone else on the forum does gd. and i am sick of you telling me that i know nothing.
-
really? do we really need to go through this again gd? as i have said several times I AM STATING MY OPINION! i have worked on 84 gls before and have never seen one with o2 sensor before.

coolant temp sensor if it is not functioning properly it will confuse the ecu makeing it run like that cold and also will make dash gauge malfunction.
