  1. Felpro headgaskets are fine on the ej22 they even have the Fuji stamp as well. Also you'll have to resurface your heads no matter what, aluminum heads always need to be resurfaced before install.
  2. I seriously don't think you have a rod issue, I'd say drive it, if it blows up so what?
  3. You still don't know that there is anything wrong with your last one, I think you jumping the gun a bit.
  4. If your not seeing glitter in your paper eliment your probably looking at piston slap. I would drive it and see of it gets worse or not.
  5. This makes the most sense, take a pic with flash of the paper elemint the flash makes the metal shavings stand out. There is always some metal, but it should be obvious if it's a rod knock.
  6. That is an ej25, notorious for that, an ej22 is a totaly different animal they are diehards.
  7. Its a 2.2, its probably fine, since its in there if it is a rod knock you'll know before to long. If it hasnt gotten any worse over 500 miles I would just drive it.
  8. Ya, I'm familiar with por15, I'm just not ready to make that investment yet. I'm just going to use this for a temporary patch until I'm ready to do a full teardown and properly repair the rust, then I'll use por15.
  9. https://www.jbtoolsales.com/duplicolor-rta9255-krylon-rust-tough-paint-prime-galvanizing-12-oz-can-coating-bonds-to-metal/?gclid=CjwKEAiA3Ou1BRDso5XyhduuwFASJABP3PEDdleqH7CT2yMeqoPVG1JolIjeq9OXrtsTmbNfHT7AexoCJWjw_wcB I found this at my local hardware store so i figured I'd give it a shot. I've got a few small projects I want to tackle on my subie mainly rust repair on rear hatch handle plate and some small touchups. What do you guys think? Sounds like a good primer to me, it does contain zinc, still the metal will need to be prepped properly before applying.
  10. Carefully. You will want a trim tool to do it right. Just try not to force anything, try working it around the edge till you can get part of it to pop loose, then work your way around from there. I would also suggest pulling the light covers and make sure there are no screws holding it in.
  11. Replace your IAC Get a used one from a junkyard, clean it up and install with new gasket.
  12. Okay, please try to slow down and spell your words better, its really hard to read your post with that grammer. So from what I gather your car started loosing power and you stopped and popped the hood to see a red hot cattilic converter that you recently replaced? Do you have any oil consumption? And when you replaced the front cat did you do the rear as well? Check for blockages in the tail pipe, because something is causing your exaust to back up could be bad rear cat.
  13. The first one took about 3 days to get, the two I just ordered are supposed to be taking 4-5 days. I don't mind waiting for that price though, that's the same price as Napa's cheap oil.
  14. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AM1Z67O/ref=ya_st_dp_summary Here is a link to the oil I'm using. If you catch it on sale its around $16, I bought a bunch while its cheap.
  15. Okay, after switching to napa brand oil my consumption went way down and now I found Valvaline max life 5w-30 on amazon for 15.88 for five quarts and I just bought three of them. I changed my oil with the max life oil 700 miles ago and I have no change in oil level, and my lifters have never been happier. I think I found the oil for my car. Thanks everyone for the help.
  16. That would make sense, I've never had to pull an ej22 apart that far so I'm not real familiar with the heads, but if it is this could be repaired without pulling the head *I think, I may be wrong.
  17. Okay, ya it sounds like you might have more of a problem than I thought, I'd still try the simple stuff first.
  18. First Have you toughly checked your pcv system? If the motor has 120k miles on it being Almost 20 years old its likely the motor has sat for a while at some point in its life. If it had been sitting before this problem started it could be as simple as needing to be driven to seat everything back in place. I find it strange to have damaged valve guides at 120k miles, the valve guides may be leaking oil, but then again why? I've seen ej22s with 320k miles that didn't smoke at all. It could be that you may need to drive it a bit and see what happens, like you said its not fouling the plugs, see if the problem disapates.
