  1. ok,so i went and got some more 6 ton jackstands.and afterwards realized that i will need a more permanent solution for hoisting the frame.not like i did not know that, but was putting it off.so tomorrow i will be off to the caster store! what do you think?330 pounds per corner good enough as far as weight limits.thats per caster.rigid frame built from 4x4 and 4x6.some 2x8 and whatever i can dig out of the dumpster from work tomorrow. cheers, brian
  2. we were just talking about that the other day skip.i had a friend that put one on his truck and ran leads to his door handles.smart kid at 17.
  3. i was leaning to an ej box.for the exact reason stated of a good clutch. but that leaves me with no dual cases.so i think i will put the 4spd i have in it for now.and see how long it takes me to blow it up. although i can get a racing clutch for a 5spd. hey jared,is that 5spd a d/r?and what type of shape is it in?cheers, brian
  4. they were killing me just lookin at it. but seriously,i was gonna ask about that balance thing.sounds cool. i may be making a visit ,we'll see.how soonish were you wantin the tires again?cheers, brian
  5. let me know what all parts you need.i have a whole gaggle of them.and we can work somethin out.cheers, brian
  6. it is a toy frame. "Will you be using a Suby tranny or building an adapter for a toy tranny?" divorced transfer case means not attached to the tranny. i will be using a sube tranny.for the basics of this build it will be leaf sprung.with a mish mash of leafs in the front, and some different springs in the back.should be fun.for not likeing the idea , you sure are interested. cheers, brian
  7. FIRST of all.my thread, mine mine mine!argue somewhere else please.i have been trying to get to this swap for over a year now.and now i am doing it ,purists' hatred be damned. i was a purist until i realized i had reached my own limits with what i had done.now mind you those limits were mechanical limits ............. second of all it will have an ej22 in it.toyota divorced t case, already has 4.3 somethin gears, obviously solid axles. as for now the suspension plans are unknown.i have to source some more springs.buy some hangers and what not. really i need to build a welder first.my whopping 100 amp service is not gonna help on this project.so i have an 8 hp wisconsin motor that came off of an old troweling machine.gonna hook that up to an old dc airplane generator and do some wiring.cost around 300 bucks.but will be 300 amp and free of my electrical constraints. before any of that i have to *fit the body to the frame. and jared,i will not be doing any shortening of frames.i am looking at extremely killer approach/departure angles. today i got a 2x6 to loft the rear end up with it was 4x6x10.it is a little warped(i don't care).so i got it for 4 bucks!stoked because it is treated wood and because it was originally like 28 bucks.so score.thanks home depot honest guy. i have to pick up some more 6 ton jacks.that will likely be tomorrow.definitely by the weekend.cheers, brian
  8. today i stripped the front of the brat down. it did not take me that long really.i spent more time figuring out how i was going to keep the brat off of the ground and be able to push the frame in under it.i am supposedly working the rest of the week so i will figure on some evening work.the back will be a little bit trickier.as i am low on space as it is(meaning the doors to my garage are already touching the rearend).and once it is off of wheels for good i will have to be a little more careful.i'll get some more pics in a couple of days when i make more progress.cheers, brian
  9. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82641 i had full intentions of making this a daily driver until the'ollady said why are you doing that. god i love her.anyways, first things first.this will be fun and exciting for all of us. lets start with some pics.moving day.picked up another frame from a guy as the last one was bent. picked up a trailer sunday morn and ran over to idaho to pick it up.got it off of the trailer and had to move the red brat out of the driveway to get it in.i live on a bus route in the city so this was not very fun.i moved the frame over inch by inch with a 5 ft piece of schedule 40 and leverage. until i had it lined up with the driveway and then baccaruda showed up and we pushed it the rest of the way in.a little work done on the frame in the way of stripping wiring off of it,unbolting some unnecessary items like heat shields and such........that was yesterday and this morning...cheers, brian
  10. well i got her to run.wll i might add.but decided with an extra ej or two in the back room i might as well.she will be getting the 2.2 that i resealed last fall.do not know if i will wire it or carb it yet.cheers, brian switching this to an offroad brat.check offroad forum for details.
  11. that looks sweet.it's always nice when you are able to pick something up like that.cheers, brian
  12. oh right.like i suspected.instead of taking constructive criticism and backing off you need to continue.well please. if you feel it is not useful to expirement ,then don't.let your limitations hold you back.not anyone else. and to address the name calling .big man across the country callin someone names over the internet.ohhh, way to express yourself. i don't hold grudges mate.i just think you are negative minded.and i don't like negative minded folks.i hope that one day your heart heals itself so that you do not feel the need to transfer your pain and weakness to others. and if you have sommething to say to me again.pm me.or start a thread callin me out.by all means keep your pety ************ to yourself.it's not good for the board.but most of all, always remember. what you reap is what you sow.......sorry for the hijack guys.cheers, brian
  13. on top of improving handling, you can change springs up fron to give you a llittle lift without stressing the system ,and others have done numerous different configurations on the rears. search around for references like ,ebay coilovers, honda rear springs, and such. i am sure you will find something satisfactory.cheers, brian
  14. just because you do not want to , or feel the need to do anything experimental does not mean that it is not possible to gain more flex out of it.let the man experiment if he wants to.where is your sense of adventure?outside of the box is just as fun as inside the box.you should come out and play once in a while, whether you think it is a waste of time or not. cheers, brian
  15. AWESOME!!!!!!cheers mate.better give that one up to the usrm.brian
  16. wasn't there a geaaring chart for the old gen cars around here somewhere. i am pretty sure that at one point i read they were a 3.54 first gear in the 4 and 5spd 4wdrives.and that teh low was 1.59.but it would be nice to confirm.cheers, brian
  17. you gotta let me know man.i really am not going to cut stuff if you are not sure......... i have a brat body that could be put on a trailer and towed back for real cheap if you wanted the whole thing.different rust issues that could just be cut out.it is really not that bad at all.i am just done with her.i took her as far as i wantedd to and it is time to let her go.so i thought i would offer up bits and pieces. but really someone could make a wheelin rig easily out of her.nothing structural really. cheers, brian
  18. what diff ratio are you now?i am thinking of getting 5.29's but some folks i have been talking to are saying that the 4.10's are worth it for the strength.cheers, brian
  19. what size tire are you running brian?and what other basic mods are done to your rig?cheers, brian
  20. monroes catalog has downgraded from a couple of years ago.they stopped crossreferencing so much.i looked tooght and they are not even listing struts for ea81 vehicles in there main catalog anymore. who knows.
