  1. that "play" you speak of gary is in the 2 piece as well.there is very little motion front and back from suspension movement.the 2 piece will add more clearance.but the one piece is more than suitable as well. the issue people have is not getting the 2 piece driveshaft centered when they mount it to the tunnel.they say that this leads to an amzing amount of vibration.i have driven at more than 80 mph in monstaru and found very little vibration.if a guy takes his time ....mounting the 2 piece can be relatively simple.and if you put a new carrier bearing in before you mount it,you are less likely to feel vibration if you mess up.cheers, brian
  2. mine were bolted in.old bolts, bed rails(yep me too),i have even stopped on road trips to tighten the bolts. wheeling in between.i have put them through hell.and they never let me down. i guess if you trust your work, you trust your work.if you don't,make anotherr shaft.
  3. if my carrier bearing mount worked through all of the ************ i put the brat through.yours will work for street use.
  4. mounted a fuel tank today.had to cut some new fuel lines,we'll see when i can get back to it. ran into some snags with some health issues earlier this week.so had to take it easy. so i took something easy and turned it into something hard.ignition relay no.duh.i kept thinking that and kept looking at it.but was actually looking at the fuel pump relay.DOH!bratsrus1 and i talked about it and he said at one point he had the same issues.tried a few and they did not work. he jumped some wires and ran it,sold the brat to shawn and shawn ran it for a while as well. when i get back to it i will run the jumpers and make her run. am going to get a rebuild kit for the weber,it could use it i feel.been ran for 2 yrs since last rebuild.i'll put that on pretty quick here and make her run like i want her to.then back to the interior. suppose to be gettin more snow tonight, that could slow me down.we'll see.cheers, brian
  5. ok,either there are 7 ignition modules downstairs that are junk.......or something else is wrong. any ideas why i would be able to put a jumper wire in the middle of the plug top and bottom and get spark, but not with any of these modules? good fuse, what am i missing......... you may be right bret.two weeks is A LITTLE TIGHT.but it being an 83 if i wait till the end of the month anyway,i can license it without having to take emissions testing.we have a 25 yr law now. i have everything for it though.just have to switch from the other brat.I GOT THAT DASH!!!! from andy.anyways.gonna try and get the gas tank switched over today at least. any ideas folks?been looking at 4 different diagrams from 82 to 84.all leading to the same place......but its not working .cheers, brian
  6. it wasn't at the subie shop on hamilton was it? if so that guy is always full of ************.hence the name we gave him......"slick" and for a salesman ,a brat and a veewee truck would be hard to tell apart...........everything looks like dollar signs$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  7. mmmm)rubbing hands together maniacally...............duel fuel ya say.they say that a 32/36 is good up to like 2400cc. or so.that is the first carb i out on the ej22 i built.on the brat i had stock from the factory jets like 140/155 or something like that.switched up one set to like 150/165 and it was to much fuel.i'm betting you could run stock jets and it would do fine on a 1.8. going up on my jets resulted in a very rich nature.lots of blue smoke. i would suggest ordering one new with factory direct settings for an ea82 and going from there. if you really want to play the jet set is like 65 us on the bay of "e". i made a manual advance for my disty, didn't think of putting a solenoid on it for adjustment ,thanks.i may have to do that.let em know if you need a fresh mind to wrap around the disty stuff.the better half of the last year was spent messin with'em for the ej22.(not like your not capable:lol: )i'm just bored...........cheers,brian
  8. got some coolant in her ,i guess she needs oil now.so will actually do an oil change today after work i hope.spent the time i had last night cleanin various things up.there was some junk in the carb, and various pieces of who knows what around on the engine.blew it off with the compressor this time and i think it needsa wire brush.gotta find my big one sos i can get to work on that. i need an ignition module for sure. i retested all of my connections to make sure i still had spark and wasn't just delirious after the other days shenanigans.still got it.but only with the jumper wire.doesn't really make sense i guess.but it is what it is.have to go to the yard and find one.may pull one from monstaru to see if that works, that will determine if i have to dig deeper.cheers, brian
  9. if it gets really tight let me know.you'd have to buy a good tarp but i could put it next to the house.do you think he would haul it over here?i do have the ability to go and get it,just would need to borrow his dolly,or have you rent one.cheers, brian
  10. whatever mate.not the only situation i have been in with the both of them.point being i have taken them both to the same places and tested them the same way.as long as you are not trying to do hardcore trails, they are the same.and as stated,my brat had more ground clearance.i am not nice to my vehicles.and if i drove that 4runner everyday, it would have died long ago.
  11. Frankly a stock 4Runner probably *could* outwheel all of the stock Subaru's and a good portion of the lifted ones as well. BUT - you're objective being mostly to get to/from your surfing spots - not to take the vehicle to it's extreems and see how stuck you can get.... you should be fine. granted,i am not the best "offroad" driver by far.but i have wheeled both vehicles(the 4runner without her knowing of course) at 7 mile orv park here in town.i did everything the same in each.except when i could not go up a certain trail in the 4runner.because of the wheelbase i could not get around a certain bend in the road.the brat only had a lift at that point, with 185/80/13 tires.and went around it.that may have been no fear of bashing the brat,or a shorter wheelbase.baccaruda knows of the mud puddles i speak of and of the area.cheers, brian
  12. i need a ************in shop you guys are having way to much fun ..... good job .can't wait to see the results. i talked to a couple of folks in town and all they wanted to do was convince me not to do anything to these heads and buy aftermarket or convert to bigger engines.once again.can't wait to see the results.cheers, brian
  13. you can spend about 3000 grand building the nicest damn roo you ever saw.and go wherever you want.your not going rock crawling, your not going mudding.your trail riding.my brat with a 4/4 lift had 2 inches of ground clearance in front on my wifes 93 4runner.enuff said
  14. wish i could help paul, full here, but if you still need help in the spring let me know, should be moving to more spacious accomodations.cheers, brian
  15. if it comes down to a making a decision and you need one person, let me know.i would be after the 5x100.cheers, brian
  16. so spent the day running down an electrical gremlin.turns out to be wire colors that are not even close to my diagrams are feeding a plug that i am guessing is the ignition relay plug.after running my multimeter into the ground (like dirt ground:lol: )got another multi meter and started the day. so i had been testing for spark obviously and was not even getting juice at the coil.so i remember superbrat saying thet the previous owner was indicating that the ignition relay was to blame for this.so in my infinite wisdom i sayhah,i can get wiring digrams for this and go print some off .well, the wire colors that are on the diagram are not the colors i find on any but one plug.fiddling around with that for like 3 hours finally pissed me off.so i decided to go get another multi and start the real deal. so i methodically checked any plug that remotely looked like it would fit a relay.that being 2 of them it was apparent very quick that my diagrams were wrong.or at least i think they are.anyways, the moral of the story is,there are very few ways to get spark on a car.so i put a jumper wire in the plug that i thought was going to bring me home and voile'....spark. tomorrow i am going to help a friend of mine that has a brat and no spark.today was just a lesson.tomorrow is the test. now i will put my pretty radiator in,add the proper fluids, finish the tune up....oh yeah.cap, rotor, andplugs went in today.wires come in tomorrow.filters are new.will change oil after i get her runnin.then move on to the transaxle.pics in the next couple of days.cheers, brian
  17. probably cheaper just to look around here and the junkyards local to you for an entire motor.cheers, brian
  18. got the glass cleaned out of it(broken type)......picked up all of the bolts /fasteners/parts in the cab and stored them.printed out some vacuum diagrams ,electrical diagrams, and placement diagrams so that i can make sure everything is there.waiting to see if i get a blue dash or not. going to get all the necessary tune up items tomorrow if i can swing it.after i get the tune up stuff on then i will see if she wants to start up and start diagnosing any motor probs.cheers, brian
  19. we are abundant up here.i have been looking for a rust free one for about 5 years now though.so don't feel to bad.i have probably looked at 10 or so that were not up to par for what i wanted to do.cheers, brian
  20. pretty much just remove/unattach everything you can see from the body then block it up any way you can and roll the drivetrain out from under neath it.that is the easiest way to do it.no really trust me.cheers, brian:lol:
  21. don't even say it..... ttiwwp i know i know.you'll get some this week.possibly picking it up tomorrow definitely by the end of the week. a new to me gen 2 brat.for the street.looks to be 99% rust free.been sittin in a shed for like 12 years.am i stoked or what?sweet.thanks to bret (superbrat)for hangin in there and waitin to get rid of stuff until i could look at it.cheers, brian
