advantage from hydro lifters?
monstaru replied to crazy D's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
don't be a wongleflute rick. and an easy way to tell milemarker,is to look on your valve covers...sometimes they had a "do not adjust valves" sticker. and my brat was not an auto, not under '84 and had a hydro motor in it when i got it.not a transplant either. -
so supposedly this friends of mine vehicle has been toasted.i have read several of these threads and have not found one thing. when you want to replace the engine instead of rebuild it,which is the most compatible?as far as 2.2 goes? anyone?the vehicle is a1997 legacy.i dunno the mileage right now.from what i gather it was ran hot more than once.possibly due to a thermostat placed backwards or something to that effect.(what is believed happened)i don't know if that is even possible.however, the casse is the case. what motor do i drop in for them?can i just change an engine wiring harness over to the 2.2?cheers, brian

ea81 turbo brat vs ea81 non turbo brat
monstaru replied to nevbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the folks that know turbos would say, don't get one....give it to them. folks that don't know turbos seem to say that they are either a hassle or not worth the gain.it depends on use.turbos are air breathers.cool air atomizes better with the fuel.therefore it would seem that there would be more obstacles in desert use. i have recently driven my first turbo.and i ************in loved it.however i do not enjoy something electronically ran.i prefer mechanical solutions to need. i guess i remember reading somewhere that there are ways to cool a turbo down properly.maybe you should check out some of the archived stuff on it. you gotta figure that older cars need to be set up twice as good as newer cars to operate well.just keep that in mind when you decide to tackle something. you can beat the piss out of an n/a car(naturally aspirated).no really.i promise,it will start to piss.oil, but excretion just the same. and you can fix it,multiple times. seems to me anyhting you are going to read about turbos is going to be 75% working on them trying to cool them better....oh did i already say that..................sorry.don't mean to repeat myself. ok so i lied.i have watched friends labor and labor, get upset...labor,labor,get pissedd.....labor,labor,.........get ************in livid and give up .sell everrything and move on to an n/a car.and have had friends that have fought for months to figure something out and reaped the rewards of a kickass turbo ride. some people spend alot of money chasing the turbo dragon.it's worse than caffeine.(and yes, that is the most addictive substance on the planet) sorry about the novel. just tread lightly in the realm of turbo,or ************in jump in head firsty..... -

just because they have the "excess" does not mean you should be mean to them.or jealous.:grin:i know i am jealous,i could use a good wreck.

you don't have to "bash" the tunnel ,at least i didn't on my brat and i went with the linkage from the 5spd.make sure when you grab the tranny, that you get the flywheel from the donor car as well. you will have to grind the bottom part of the bellhousing on the motor.you will understand when you place the ea82 flywheel on your ea81 engine. if you are not a fabricator,i would suggest a kit.and a lengthened driveline.otherwise ,tear it apart, and go to town.it is all common sense once you dive in. some folks say that you should get your driveline stretched( )i have never had a problem with mine shimmying or shaking.at least not from the driveline:headbang: i have driven on a two piece driveline for a long damn time now.several trips across state and out of state.romped the piss out of it,and i am still driving it.

be patient,if you do it methodically,it will go better for you.i went through and undid all the wiring that i caould see, reach first.then dismantle all of your knobs(ie lights, wipers, etc off of the heater slidesetc.)then start at one side and work your way to the other undoing bolts.in other words,do the obvious first ,thaan get after the stuff you have no idea about.the most difficult about any of these dashes is the ea-81 ,it has i think three bolts that are right next to the windshield under some "covers".the angle on those wasa tad difficult for me at one point.but that is it.you might be thinking of minimizing alot of stuff under there.once you get into it ,you will realize that it may be harder than it should be to consolidate all of that junk in there.or you could be thinking of a roll cage install,in which just the corners of the dash next to the window would need to be cut.anyways,it's not that hard.if you are worrying about breaking things,i would do a test run on one of your other brats sos you can get an idear.

you come through post falls, and you're welcome to stop by.were right next door........ wait a minute.why wouldn't a "non-vented rotor"work .should be the same caliper.

Nice Drivetrain for the brat?
monstaru replied to 75subie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
rguyver is the guy that did that.and it was a very clean install.he swapped the entire drivetrain. it will just take time.if you cannot fabricate,do not even try.but buy that damn thing anyway.or help them part it out. -
if you are frugal, barter, and scrimp your parts together.you can do it for a couple hundred bucks.like i have.
