  1. right on man,it is fun pulling these engines.liquid courage not recomended until it is out...
  2. itis fairly simple to locate the engine number on the engine.on your 85 , go look right next to the distributor to the left a bit and you will see that it says ea-81 or ea-82.i bet that one is an ea-81.your 87 is more than likely an ea-82.the main difference in these engines is the timing belt setup on the ea-82.there are other differences, but that is the most noticeable.
  3. did you ever get it back on tim?i am going to be doing this conversion son and am trying to understand the vacuum setup.i think i have read 4 or 5 things on it,but am stillnot understanding.
  4. napa , or wix.baccaruda turned me on to that a few years ago and i have had no probs since.
  5. the cut-off i am talking about goes in between the battery and the starter, you do not have to wire it to the entire system.it is simply to turn your starter off.
  6. i am a fan of the taboo.i say it would be an awesome addition to the monsters we see around here anyways.there is no reason that any vehicle should be it's stereotypical self, just like any of us.i have often thought about this.i just cannot afford an rx shell at this point.but you can guarantee if i were to get two, i would have one for the road and on for the not so there even if i tried, road.
  7. you can buy a kill switch that is commonly used for heavy machinery through napa .it hooks up to your positive battery cable and is literally a keyed switch that kills all power to the rest of your car.it mounts anywhere you would like and when the key is with you there is no power to anything .i was thinking about mounting one under the spare tire area.you open the car, pop the hood, and you are able to stick the key in and there you go.i do not know of there is a specific name for it, a friend showed me one that he installs on the heavy forklifts that his hoddies use.around 50 dollars is not bad for the peace of mind that it could give you.
  8. aahheeemmm!they were in my garage when pat picked them up.....and i even packed your lugnuts in an acid box, i thought it was cool enough, but i guess not:drunk:
  9. i have an ea-82 y- pipe on my 86 brat, stole a flange from a donor car, had it welded to a thrush glasspack that duals out in the back.it is all about the routing.but the y-pipe will bolt right up.or the two "header pipes"will bolt right up if it is truly dual exhaust.just a hint, use the better of the two exhaust manifold gaskets you can get your hands on.they are thick and silver.you will know them when you see them.
  10. low temp-when you realized this was a journey high temp-when you saw your wife after days, and days, and days realizing that 7500 hundred miles can make the heart grow fonder-priceless
  11. on an 88 it would be 36mm.i only know this cause baccaruda has an 87 and it is the same as an 88 ,and i borrowed it for my brat .so all in all , i would say it is a 36mm.and sears sells them for around 7 bucks.craftsman,if you break it they give you a new one.
  12. i have always believed that if you want a more capable trail rig you have to test your limits with the one you have or are building.find out how stuff breaks, after you already have spare parts that break normally.find out what you are capable of and you will find out if your rig needs to be more stout.i know this does not go into specifics on the vehicle itself , yet i find it very important.alot of people can say that their rigs do this and that but,it does not mean that a bunch of bolt ons or upgrades or modifications has made it a better rig for offroad.people need different things for their environments.you are always gonna have the basics.ie:flex, travel, grip, gearing etc......just my 2 cents
  13. some good mud tires for 15 inch chevy wagons that are getting painted black
  14. i cut the fenders off today, preparing for when a miracle happens and i can afford my tires..the front part of the fenders that is, under the bumper.i passed emissions friday, and due to cost of getting the title transfered late i have to wait to get tabs and plates.by the end of the week damnit.i hope.i got a three day permit to drive her and drove her i did.she is running good and the exhaust sounds good .very happy with how she is turning out.i'll post new pics when i get her on the road for good.....
  15. that looks like a supreme place to wheel at.....i'm jealous.......
  16. the previous owner of my brat did that same thing.......he had to park it a week later.when i got it these came out of the tranny when i drained it.bad juju
  17. your stock rims are most likely 13 inchers.you either need to source some pug rims , buy some stock 14 inchers from oz, or do a six lug converson and run 14 or 15 inch rims.........and yes ,people have gone as big as 33 inchers with the proper lift and other accompaniments.
  18. imo i have to agree with the driver comment.i used to 4 wheel at some salt pits outside of fairbanks and did not know how to drive them, got stuck every time and was pulled out by stock vehicles.the rocks on the backside of ft. wainwright were another story.i crawleed them numerous times on different lines and sat and drank beers watching all kinds of full sized trucks flail around and break stuff.i did my wheelin in alaska with an 89 ford ranger that had a 4 inch rancho lift and 32 inch bf goodrich muddies on it.it all depends on your driving skills.my wagon was completely stock and i drove it all over oregon and was able to reach places my friends dodge 1500 could not.
  19. thats cool man....props to ya:lol:
  20. just checkin.....he never writes, he never calls.....some peoples kids:lol:
  21. sounds to me like you could get your insurance company to pay for it....
