official build thread.........this is monstaru2
monstaru replied to monstaru's topic in Members Rides
it won't actually fit in the garage.:grin:and yes, it would be grand to see you again.i have been kinda MIA lately, but thats how my spring/summer goes sometimes.there will be more progress soon.like i said,i am waiting on some folks, when she is a roller it will start goin. but i have to get the control arms straight....which will happen when i get the radius rods back,so that i can weld up the diff mounts, which need to be done for the mounting of the t-case,,,,etc....etc....so the little things i could be doing are basically getting done. i do not know if the hatch will make an appearance at the offroad meet, but i will be there, with something.cheers, brian -

ok, so been a bit. i got some struts made today finally. i still have not gotten the rear axle pieces back from the machine shop, but guess i can't *************** because it is free machining.... the radius rods are out for a bending.they should be back this next week...... then she is a roller......i can then weld the brackets for the front diff, and start working on the tunnel.which will ensue mounting the sammi case, and moving on to drivelines. then things will move alot quicker.cheers, brian -
most all of the info you need as a soob offroad newb is listed,as stated before,in the stickie up top. with a little imagination and some time it is very simple to build these cars.and if you have no fab skills, they are very cheap to buy already setup.look around a little more.searching can help alot. cheers, brian

bratsrus1 has done this.i do not think thee is a thread. i just got some air compressors off of some 80's cadillacs that had air ride and put a bigger alt on.the drag the compressor makes on the engine is worth getting rid of.just a thought.cheers, brian

don't worry mugsy.........it is not as ominous as you are making it feel to yourself. i thought you could find something on here , but obviously people want to make it harder than it is. it will just take time ya'know.we'll take care of it.cheers, brian

just mount it in a different place.......use the curve to your advantage.

don't worry, i wasn't talking ************ to you.....we saw this before and were impressed with the straight frame horn design.cheers, brian

Brat -- Does a tall Gen 2 style topper exist??
monstaru replied to AveryRadBrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes, they do exist.i have had two of them through my possession ....and, that is hassies old brat i believe......cheers, brian -
the 3eat will not stand up.like stated, the 4eat would, but it would need to be gone through i would think.they do make a selectable auto switch set(allows you too run your auto like a manual if need be) i am looking into a similiar option for my rig.so i can teach the kids to drive. i would look into the samurai transfer case as the low gear sets are wAy cheaper , and lower than the nissan options.cheers, brian

i guess thats fair.... she is awfully pretty though.i know you will do a good job with her. and Ed,i would trade my green wagon for a maroon wagon like this one!!!!!it 's just that it brought back memories, and , and, and,.......but basically, everything is for sale or trade with me.:lol:cheers, brian
-
i'll trade you for a a green ea81 wagon. your car is an instant reminder to me of the one that made me fall in love with subies.her name was penelope.i have always wanted another maroon ea81 wagon.damn.i hate you sometimes.:)cheers, brian

pie cut the bumper pieces that jut out to the sides.if you pie cut it you can draw them in to the sides of the fender and you will get protection for your lenses.weld and easy ridin from there on out.cheers, brian

you can buy different wattage bulbs ed.defenitely not hid or =xenon. the ones i sold to bratman were a little different .but , same idea for sure. you can get 100 watt bulbs for that setup.pretty damn bright actually.they work well if'n you are willing to spend the dough on the bulbs.cheers, brian

i remember asking for that info the last time this was brought up.......i have checked out a couple of places with no luck.and by a couple i mean a bajillion......cheers, brian

search is your friend. but , to get to the point.put them on and see what you have to do. with 235/75/15's ,my 4"ed brat was rubbin on some ups and downs........so i know that 30's,which was my next deal would be rough........ do what you want.but if i was going with a 30" tire,i would lift it at least that much ...or trim alot. like i said, search will help you out.there are a couple of faq threads floating around....i even think one is at the top of the offroad forum ...........its called a "stickie". theres even a cat named phizinza that has some thick tire on basically no lift.gets around proper even. cheers, brian

first part:completely agree bill....learn what you are talking about bheinen74,before you speak...no offense meant, but for ************s sake.has been used on a million vehicles.................. and bill,i have been thinking about a way to mount the bottoms to the knuckle without movement,(as that is what is required),but am open to suggestions. i should have the parts by the time you come to town to pick up and drop off your parts.we can defenitely chat then.i always appreciate an extra eye.cheers, brian

what type of mount brackets are those and where did you get them b?(the gold colored ones)those are what i need to mount the air shocks on the top .i was thinking of utilizing a new subaru strut top and just using a bracket like that for the top mount.or shock hoops.havna decided yet. cheers, brian
