so, many of you know what i have been up to gathering parts and what not. here is the basic list...... what parts i have: 1987 hatchback EJ22 carbied motor one locked 4.44 diff one open 4.44 diff(i have an lsd for it, but it may get traded for something even cooler) low mileage 5spd d/r suzuki transfer case 235/75/15's hankooks rear discs custom bumpers 6 inch bill omlin monster lift several of my own lift pieces that i have been constructing to add into the suspension umm.....thats basically the parts. i will be adding some pics ,but most of them will be hosted on photobucket. ok,so far i have started the engine crossmember...seen here and i redrilled some front hubs so that i could have 6 lug all the way around then today i started installing the lift for the front,i have the lower pieces inthe struts, and the steering rack crossmember down as well,i mounted some frame rail reinforcement to be able to weld the engine crossmember to something.... steering rack crossmember stuffs^^^^ strut extensions,i am adding some to the top to not only help with camber, but give me just a bit more. i am still trying to decide how i want to mount the tranny,i left the radius rod plates/tranny crossmember mounts in the stock location as this is where i want the drivetrain to be. the options at hand are to leave them where they are or lower them with smaller 2 inch lift blocks and run the subframe off of those blocks..and make new radius rods out of the originals with sleeves of schedule 40 or,make some new ones with .120 wall DOM like the big boys do it for their suspensions. or, to use the 6 inch blocks and just use the radius rods as they are. i am leaning towards "links",but i do not know if i will be able get the heims quick enough to accomplish it.we shall see. welp, its official.:lol:cheers, brian

Hair-brained ideas from a guy who cant sleep
monstaru replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Off Road
by the time the hatch is done it will have about 162:1 crawl ratio ..........and for about 800 bucks at that...that counts 4.44's at both ends, and the t-case. the fab time is mine, the steel is not up to 30 bucks yet at scrap prices so,it is possible with time and fab ability to do it.then you have to deal with flex ..........cheers, brian -
EA81 4spd to EA82 5spd swap roll call...
monstaru replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yep , drilled a hole, cut a piece of 1/2x1/2 tubing to put in there with a long bolt and it worked out fine.beware though, the longer the bolt the more apt you are to have "play" in that mount.short and fat spacer is my vote for the next time i do this,to help with stability at that mount. i actually had to pull over just before white pass one time due to slop, and realized the nut had loosened considerably, even though it was a nylock!i attributed it tothe mount not being stout enough due to the spacer. i never had a problem again, but also never changed the mount either. i will be doing it a little different this time. and jibs, you can make two little "L" brackets to bolt to your tunnel for the driveshaft.i did it and never had any problems.of course you want to use bullet proof fasteners, but i just measured from side to side to get it as centered as possible and had very little whine or vibration. as a matter of fact i think i used pieces of an old bedframe.:lol:worked well though.cheers, brian -
Colorblindness and fog lights
monstaru replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i believe he is using"foglights" as general term. his explanation to me was that she wanted to see better at night, which means,"driving lights"......make up your mind *********************..........:)cheers, brian -
i second that........

Colorblindness and fog lights

i say white because it is not the color she sees that matters..... it is the amount of illumination that matters.....regardless of color.....cheers, brian -

hey ONEEYE i'd still like to make it to the pit..but we will see about that.we have some things to do in town, and we will not make it there until around noonish.so i just don't know. although its very commendable to have folks(rob and ken) to say that if we do not make it that we will receive it anyhow.i am still pushing for an appearance:grin:cheers, brian -
Brat chrome bed trim alternatives
monstaru replied to DPDISXR4Ti's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i often thought about filling in the outside area to match the rest of the body to make a very unnoticable transition.and then adding tie downs along the inside . obviously one would want to use a fiberglass product as opposed to your regular filler. as far as the tailgate goes, there is a guy that comes on here very little that lives in my area that took a piece of poly-plastic and shaped it on a mill to fit as a tailgate trim. if a guy had access to the right tools anything is possible.but i have not seen any sort of spoiler on the back of one. someone made a tailgate trim piece out of diamondplate as well.cheers, brian -

what time do you think you guys would be coming in from reiters?cheers, brain -
yes very much so... if the ratio in the diff is different from the tranny they are spinning at different speeds.not much different ,but defenitely enough to cause a scream or howl. if the sticker is not present you could take the cover off to inspect the innards of the diff.the numbers on the ring gear will show you your ratio. and whatever the tranny is is a dead giveaway to the gurus to tell you your ratio.if they do not match you need to fix that .like now. the lsd is most likely 3.7 ,and it is possible the tranny is 3.9 in other words.just because the sticker on the rear diff says one thing does not mean it is true, that is why i sayed to take the rear diff cover off and check the numbers on the ring gear.... take some pics of the engine mating to the tranny,is there an adapter plate?because i am betting they just dropped an ej tranny in there.as it does not appear to be a dual range tranny from your pics. if it is an EJ tranny , it is 4.11 ratio'd. so, is it a dual range tranny, and do you have an adapter plate between the engine and tranny(it will look a little different opposed to the aluminum on the motor and tranny, might be shinier) cheers, brian

OK IT IS ACTUALLY OFFICIAL,baccaruda and i will be coming over to the west side for a couple of days this next weekend(17th,18th)......would like to have some beers/drinks with folks saturday night.i talked to zap today and he said if there is any interest we can chill at his house or go to a tavern/bar.seeing as how andy and i know quite a few of you we think it would be cool to hang out since well, you are our bro's........and a few of you we have not met face to face ....might be cool to hang out. we just want to have a good time and hang out with folks we don't get to see alot or know. we are also transporting some parts over for folks and supposed to be picking some up from folks too so those folks will hear from us for sure.if you did not hear from us does not mean we do not want to hang out.....that just means we are fairly inconsiderate young *********************es who do not have everyones numbers.:lol:kidding.i imagine if you know zap you know how to get to his house. so if you are down to make an appearance let us know.it would be sweet!being that zap is hosting us it might be a good idea to run stuff by him as this goes along.i imagine he will chime in eventually.cheers, brian

if i remember right his is 3rd gen.....it is maroon.check it in the offroad rig rollcall thread here. and i put 235/75/15s on my 4 inch lifted brat.it stuffed roughly.....i should have rolled and pounded more, but alas,i decided to cut the tread on my tires instead:rolleyes:.... you can see that there is not much fender room.those tires equated to 28.9 inches.cheers, brian

FOUND! stolen subaru wagon, spokane (not mine!)
monstaru replied to baccaruda's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
maybe around you they do that.but there is only one "yard" around here that will accept anything without a title.and you have to know where it is,know the owner, and sure as hell not tell anyone where it is. the laws are very strict in washington when it comes to that.and the paperwork best be in order around here.most likely it is as jeszek said, kids wanting to do something stupid and leaving it abandoned later.of course it is usually in the woods here.so it will probably not be found by someone that cares enough.cheers, brian
