What to do with Butter(79 dl wagon)?
distinctive replied to distinctive's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I guess I need to be a little more specific. I would like to drop a new drivetrain and suspension from a newer model and was wondering what can be done. I dont want to cut up the frame to make things fit so something that would bolt in would be preferable. After spending way too much time and effort to get front shocks I would really like to convert everything to easier to get stuff Thanks -
Cheap horsepower from 79 wagon
distinctive replied to distinctive's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
no new motor just yet. Carbs sound like a fairly straight forward process. As a novice mechanic which would be the easiest to install and fine tune? This thing is pretty straight, and rust free. More than I expexted and my little brain keeps screaming "Restore Restore". So I don't want to hack anything up that I'll regret later. -
What can I do to get some more horsepower from a 79 wagon. I'm talking easy and cheap little additions. Not looking for a fire breather....yet. Also is my 1600 engine an EA71? Are there any other sources of info on these older ones specifically? This forum rocks, but 95% of it isn't for my car.

gen 1 roll call
distinctive replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
just had this fall into my lap two weeks ago. 79 4wd 1600 wagon 70,000 miles. Seems pretty solid except a little rust at the bottom of the doors. Engine bay and undercarriage are rhino lined? no rust. Need to get a manual and some parts. http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/026.jpg http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/029.jpg -
Whats up with 79?
distinctive replied to distinctive's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
so would it be safe to use the 78 manuals? -
New to the site but excited to be here. I just got a hold of this '79 wagon that i have been drooling over through a billionaire's garage door. His wif finally made him get rid of it because her $100,000 mercedes sat outside so this could stay dry. It's in great shape and I'd like to be able to keep it that way. I've looked for manuals but they seem to have skipped '79. As an obsessive researcher I'd love to get any info on these things I can. Here's some pics http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/?action=view¤t=029.jpg http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/?action=view¤t=030.jpg http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/?action=view¤t=028.jpg http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/?action=view¤t=027.jpg http://s1165.photobucket.com/albums/q593/distinctivestone/?action=view¤t=026.jpg

Im the proud new owner of a 79 4wd wagon that I have drooled over for the past five years. Everything I look at ends at '78 and starts at '80. Do I own a mythical beast never before seen? A leaky mythical beast. Any info would be appreciated, especially parts suppliers and such.
