I made copper intake gaskets ive reused them time and time again and never had one leak i also use copper gasket dressing before i install them the copper makes much better gaskets then paper or what ever they use ive also had good luck with homemade cardboard infused with silicone gaskets on the intake lasted over a year on my intake before i made copper ones they never leaked

thread repair gurus, beyond coil inserts ?
ferp420 replied to jono's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Weld the hole up and redrill and retap ive never done it in aluminum but i would guess you could aluminum braze the hole up then drill and tap but the part would likely need to be removed from the car but should be easy enuff and a solid repair the aluminum brazing is saposed to be as good as welding the joint if done right is stronger than the surounding aluminum and can be done with a map gas tourch -

The drilled and slotted rotors are good for oversized tires that need alot more force to stop or live in 5he mountains or run heavy loads i have yet to change my pads and they have been on the car for 3 years now towing boats other cars on 30" tires so the were factor shouldent be a consideration but they dont stop any beter than standerd rotors they just disipate the heat faster -

ferp420 replied to exercion's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What part of lake tahoe ive got a 94 loyale build going on in south lake its a easy swap just need a few little things like you need to disable the nutral safty switch and i think you need some kind of relay or something the gage cluster would be a good thing to swap also but not necisary if i remember the wireing is all there its just not all used ive never done that swap my self but i have worked on cars that have had that swap done it dident look like a big deal i think its just the starter cercate and a light that needs to be turned off i pull the motor and trans when i need to work on any of that stuff it just seems easyer to me especialy since you need to change stuff on the back of the motor too -
Ea81 increase in power
ferp420 replied to YaBoyKingsley's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What gd sead also port and polish your heads custom power grind the valves deburr the intake manifold add spacers between the manifold and heads port match all your intake and ehaust gaskets add a spacer under the carb get a better carb plug the egr ports as they create turbulance in the exhaust flow that robs power use better gas and advance the timing and grind the 1/4" welded bead out of the inside of the ehaust manifold were it bolts on and go with a 2" cat back exhaust or drop in a ej2.2 -
Lokka R160 locker interest. Need 50 guys $300 a piece
ferp420 replied to 86hatchback's topic in Off Road
The welded rear breakes stuff for sure if driven on pavement but the selectable lockers like a detroit locker would put alot more stress on every part in the entire system when that locker engages the the shock load will instantly distroy your diff a electric locker would be ok but cost way to much then theres the carriers that lock one side whitch is ok if the entire housing is made to take the load but that would cost a arm and a leg too so that leaves the bearing locker but our carriers arent made for that and i dought would last very long like that and i still wounder about that design Then theres the phantom grip lockers probably our best bet but they wont lock completely and is more of a dirt cheap lsd than a locker as its just 2 pieces of metel rubbing together to create friction but not a true locker and wont last long and the metal shavings would probably eat your bearings personaly i have 3 diffs one open one welded and a lsd and i swap them around as needed i think the lsd in these rigs works realy well i just dont want to burn it up its not a heavy use kinda thing if i know im gona need a locked rear end i drop the welded diff in and role -

Leaking valves. What should I do?
ferp420 replied to somick's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Seing as how everything is apart i would lap the valves sand the heads using the diy head surfacing method and me personaly i would port and polish the heads while there out and apart already i have never had a real valve spring tool ever i use a socket and a rag and a hammer to remove the springs just takes a quick tap and the keepers are out and have used plires to reinstall them when i did chevy heads with high comprestion springs i used 2 bars and levered them i have also used a drill press to compress the springs these ea82 springs are soft enuff that just body wait can compress them hand then i drop the keepers in easy enuff but im exstremely cheap or poor however you want to look at it so i do everything my self with what i have laying around -
How far are you from reno

Gl wagon rear differential damaged.
ferp420 replied to 88wagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It very well could be sticking in 4wd sometimes getting back in to 2wd is very hard its comon on selectable 4wd trucks to fix that drive backwards till you can drop the lever all the way down or you could have a full time 4wd 3.7:1 ratio trans out of a turbo but that would have the problem all the time seeing as how it was fine till you used 4wd im guessing its just stuck ive had to go backwards almost a 1/4 mile before to get it to go back in to 2wd driving forward and back as fast as you can can sometimes pop it loose you want to jolt the gears loose and it should shift it sounds like a standerd stuck tcase too me -
Damb you have the worst luck maybe you should move to scale rigs lol

key broke off in loyale ingition!
ferp420 replied to Jman1991's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You might be able to use the end of the broken key to start it i dont know if it would come out even if you pulled the cylinder you might have to go the screwdriver in the key hole method or buy a new cylinder and key sometimes the cylinders are open on the back sometimes there not my vw bus has never had keys since ive owned nither has my scout it i just never lock them and have a secondary ignition switch and no stearing lock in 15 years it hasent been a issue on ether rig -
